Problem with in-game mic
Works perfectly fine everywhere else. When I did the test on my system as well as in the steam settings tested and can hear myself and see the bar go up as well as dota settings. Don’t know why it doesn’t work when I join a game though, as if I have no mic. I have nothing muted, my sound and mic works, i have the correct mic device in recording as well as steam settings–>microphone is on the right one.. It was walking fine for the past 2 years but ever since I came back from my 1 week vacation trip from ti, my mic does not work when I push to talk and use it. Doesn’t seem to work on open mic even in game, it shows me trying to talk but I get the microphone with the red line crossed out on it meaning supposely I have no mic?
Check again if you disabled all other devices under Recording panel, leave only your mic, and set it both as default device and default communication device.
Under Steam Voice Settings, re-test your microphone. Set Recording and Receive volume to half. Set a push-to-talk key.
Under Dota 2 Audio settings, uncheck both Open Mic. Set different keys (and not the same as the Steam Voice one). Set Open Mic Threshold to higher than 8%.
Uncheck Autodetect Audio Latency and Streamlined Push To Talk.
Check if you have other communication software running that might fight Dota 2 for control (TeamSpeak, Discord etc). – make sure you set up different keys for those and no open mic.
On Windows 10 I had an unusual bug where a Sound Recorder app was running in the background, blocking the mic. You should disable background apps that use your camera and mic (Privacy – Background apps) or disable access under Privacy – Camera – Let apps use my camera=No / Microphone – Let apps use my microphone=No.
As a last resort, Sound – Recording devices – Your Mic – Properties – Advanced – Uncheck both settings under Exclusive Mode and reboot.

can’t really test it now as i’ m about to go to sleep since it only started to happen and its not for every game that my mic isn’t working but 4/5 games but before i had no issue ever. i’ll do a good test run tomorrow when i play multiple games. some related stuff is below
I had the steam settings –> voice –> push to talk key ‘same’ as my dota 2 in game mic hotkey, what does that do and does it matter? What does the top selection, “auto transmit voice whenever i speak” and push to talk do? I think before it was on default and was on the top selection, not sure. Been playing around with stuff that I think can help to fix it ;x.
I do not see any apps in task manager or the tray at the bottom of my window that is opened and uses cam/mic so that shouldn’t be a factor. Is there a way to get a dropdown list of everything that has access to my camera/mic/etc.?
How would I disable background apps that use my cam/mic? Where is this ‘privacy’ setting?
I am going to test them all step by step, hoping I don’t need to get too far and it’s just a minor error.. Before TI week, it was still working no problem but after I came back and started playing, my mic hasn’t been working in game but still works when I login and use discord/skype. *I rarely use them but I logged in just to test* Every testing I did that requires the cam/mic all fully works, just not inside game. It randomly starts working in 1/5 of my games now..
