– What’s the point of this question?
Even though I’ve played thousands of dota 1 / dota 2 games, I still find it difficult to understand why some heroes are placed in 4th / 5th position while others with similar or less game Impact throughout a game, are placed as 3th or even 2nd, that can’t even profit from items as much as those 4th/5th position.
For me, there are heroes that are without a doubt considered supports, such as Lion, KotL, Crystal Maiden.
We have supports like SK / Earthshacker / Enigma / Warlock / Tide / WD that rely on good positioning, you agree with me right?
Now we have the rather situational supports like Visage, Invoker, Enchantress, Windranger. depending on the lineup.
But what I’m seriously wondering, for example Nukers like:
Lina, Tinker, Zeus, Necro
Let’s go for Necro: People keep telling he is extremly item-reliant. Is he?
He has an aura which doesn’t scale in any way with tems, a heal/nuke that doesn’t scale in any way by items either – other than ethereal blade/veil – and an awesome passive that let’s him quickly come back online after a kill.
He has an ultimate that scales perfectly into late, but regarding items, there is only Aghanims (Ethereal Blade / Veil can be bought by someone else) and maybe refresher that really give profit to Reaper’s Scythe.
Let’s compare Necro with some supports I mentioned earlier: Shaker, Sand King, Warlock, Enigma, Tide.
Shaker, SK, Tide and Enigma all need dagger or even a BKB aswell to be effective. A Veil / Aghanims / Refresher can own a whole team if used correctly. So we have a HUGE game impact on those heroes with said items – during early/mid and even late. Still, those heroes mostly end up 4th / 5th position, 3rd as best, leading to a minute 15-20 dagger (except jungle enigma). At this time, the enemy will most likely have a pipe or meka so your ultimate already falls off without additional items.
Instead, we bring up a Necro with Aghanims to kill an enemy carry, which would’ve died anyway even without Aghanims. Now if instead our SK had a Veil and dagger, he would’ve done so much more damage in comparision while the +30 sec respawn still was there. I still prefer a nicely placed Death Ward or Black Hole in combination with Black King Bar, than an increased scythe damage for finishing off a carry below 20% hp, or a pure damage Laguna Blade, or aghanims on Zeus.
Can anyone please explain me what’s the idea/logic behind that? Or for what reason we put Initiators or other high game impact heroes in lower positions than nukers?
E: I never said Necro should be considered as a Support, it’s about the high importance of nukes compared to high game impact heroes. Some people missunderstood. Also, I want explanations why Necro needs more Items than Aghanims, what makes him profit more of them than on other heroes, since his spells doesn’t get affected.
