[HELP] Choosing v >
Hi everyone,
I wanna buy a new video card so I can run dota2 on my pc. But I don’t know much about video cards and I don’t know which one to choose. I would like a card that can run dota2 on best quality, or near that, in case I would like to play a heavier game in terms of requirements in the future. Can anybody please help me?
I’ve checked some models already like NVIDIA GT 610 1 or 2 GB, GT 630 1 GB and ATI HD 6450 XFX. Some other models would require a new power source I think: ATI HD 7750 XFX, GTX 550TI or 650TI.
I’m not sure if it’s better to spend a bit more and get a more expensive video card or if those first models would do the job already.
Depends on your preferences. Do you want to future proof your gaming rig?
This may be of some use to you:
If you don’t know much about PC hardware to know what your system can/cannot handle, then we would require a bit of info before suggesting what is best for your needs. I would hope that you have someone that knows PC hardware that you are friends with or know personally.
Mother board: G31M-ES2L
2.9GB RAM
Intel Core 2 Duo CPU E7200 2,53GHz x2
Resolution: 16×10
If any of those cards I first mentioned like GT610 or GT630, could easily run dota2 with highest setting, no lag and no fps drop, then one of these is fine. But I’m afraid of getting a card that can run dota2 but not any other game with just a little higher requirements.
Unfortunately I don’t have any friend that knows about hardware very well, that’s why I’m looking for help on forums and searching the net. So any help is much appreciated!

for just playing dota2 u can go with the hd7770 the Gt cards are old, u can look for the GTX ones you probably gonna need a new psu for those.
if i were you, ill buy a gtx model+psu and when u have money upgrade the processor+motherboard
got muted on main
made new account
played with 9 other smurfs who wanted to stomp some noobs, just like i wanted
So now you cant even stomp some poor newcommers when you are bored
Well actually I don’t want to spend that much. If I could get a cheaper card that can run dota2 well, then I’d rather get it than having to spend more on a good video card plus a new psu.
I have a 250W psu now. I’ve been looking at the cards GT 610, GT 630 and HD 7750 or 7770. I don’t know if I’d have to get a new psu for those HD cards, or the 630.
I heard someone say that he can run dota2 on max settings with a GT 210. I know it depends on the rest of the pc, but even the GT 610 seems to be good enough to run it on max right? The HD ones seem to be overkill for dota2 from what I could research on the net. If so, the GT 630 would be good enough.
GeForce 8800 Ultra will do the job for Dota 2 and many other Steam games at current. An old card by today’s standards. Nevertheless, it is hardy, cheap and very reliable.

Read it and research how video cards in your price range play in various games/settings via youtube videos and video card reviews. After you have a top 3 pick or come down to which one you want VERIFY that it is compatible. Definitely make sure you have the power and cords from PSU required. Make sure that the card will fit in your case and everything should be good.
Do you only plan to play Dota 2? Don’t you wanna play other games?
Dota isn’t that graphic intensive. If I were you I wouldn’t make a purchase on solely being able to run dota on max setting unless I intend be play dota and nothing else.

dont worry 2 much about that. Dota is way more dependant on your CPU rather your gfxcard. You should not pick up something like a 7770, since your CPU would only be a bottleneck. You can go and get a HD 6570, that will do just fine. You wont get like stable 60FPS bcause i dont think your CPU can handle it, but it will not lag like crazy, thats for sure.
