Are macros allowed?

Im jsut asking this because a friend of mine just told me he ses macros with meepo and that they are not banneable, we were discussing about dota being skill based or not and he brought the argument of people using macros to defend his point that dota requires no skill whatsoever and i said macros are prohibited BUT i cant find any info related to this matter, official info, so im just gonna ask here since this is the dev forums.

Meepo macros can be done by using the Dota 2 config and are not bannable in that case. By the way, this is not official, just that AFAIK Valve never banned for using the config.

Macros are not bannable. Sadly, Valve allows Meepo poof scripts and other garbage.

Really?, then thats pretty disappointing.

Then again i would like to know what is the “other garbage” you mention, may aswell know the full package of BS.

Well it’s pretty much that. These two things are definetly not bannable and are allowed:
1) Macros, done with official keyboard/mouse software.
2) Configs, like meepo blink+poof scripts (if you ever seen insane meepos who insta-poof on you, that’s it).

This is a gray zone, some people use it without bans:
3) Some automation software, though rumors say they started banning for it, but I’ve seen people with over 1600 hours who still use it. I don’t remember the exact functionality, just seen it on some script-kiddie’s forums.

This is bannable, though not all cheats are detected:
4) Real cheats. People complain about being hexed by a player after they blink in, without him even moving his cursor.

Anything done inside Dota 2 config is not banable. They could disable the functionality if they don’t want it.
Dota 2 (Source 1) used to have a “wait” command. With “wait” you could program a delay into your script. This was removed due to abuse.

Third party programs (that interfere with your mouse and keyboard) still have a “wait”-equivalent command. But people have been banned for using them in other Source games (CS:GO and TF2) when they were abusing it (spamming a key, bhopping, reversing spray pattern, . ). If you are using those programs to e. g. disable Windows key or to rebind some keys you won’t be banned.

Also your friend is a dumb if he thinks macroes is all he needs to be successful with a hero. Or if Dota 2 isn’t a skill based game. There is this one guy who has a meepo script guide on Steam, majority of times plays Meepo and he has 3200 MMR.

If you want to become decent with Meepo these scripts will help you. But if you want to become very good at Meepo I wouldn’t use those scripts. They limit your gameplay heavily. E. g. you only know how to blink poof with all 5 meepos due to your script but 1 of your meepo is low health.
Blink-poof isn’t hard to master.

Well if they are not baneable then they are not i guess, i feel its BS but whatever.

I actually dont play meepo i dont like multi unit heroes, i play a lot with invoker though and he said that i could benefit from using macros with him. but honestly i have many many hours with invoker and i dont see where i could benefit from using one, with that many spells and possible combinations or uses/scenarios i cant just do a macro that does some stuff in one particular order because that would make me a 1 trick pony invoker, not to mention that all of the difficult comboes including the refresher i know how to do them without the need of that so i really dont think any of that would help me, so in the end i agree with you saying that is better just to leanr without that BS.
