EternaLEnVy banned for 6 months due to new Dota 2 matchmaking system
EE got banned, but only from the normal competitive matchmaking.
This article is brought to you by StatBanana, the best Dota 2 strategy tool.
Jacky “EternaLEnVy” Mao is one of the most polarizing Dota 2 players in history, partially thanks to his high-level play and his personality.
But today, the player was banned from competitive play within the Dota 2 client because the new matchmaking system deemed his account as toxic following months of poor behavior scoring.
EE Banned
Clip of EternaLEnVyy Playing Dota 2 – Clipped by Zadeth
After finishing a match on stream, a small message popped up over the ‘Find Match’ button in the client, informing EE that matchmaking was disabled for his account due to “excessive reports, failing to ready-up, or abandoning.” This translated into about a nearly year-long ban for the top player.
EE himself commented in the Reddit thread with a clip of his ban, trying to explain his situation to all of the users debating how this could have happened by explaining his last few months of playing Dota outside of the pro-scene.
“I started at 9k Conduct summary somewhere during July. Then I started to role steal all the way to 1 conduct summary within a span of two weeks,” EE said. “Then after they implemented the stealing role report at the start of games I stopped and since then I’ve won 90% of my games playing unconventional heroes and being PMA (positive mental attitude). During this time my conduct summary kept going up, but I would always end up in low priority anyway. Finally today after raising my conduct summary from 600 to 1.6K I am banned for 6 months.”
So, back in July, EE was nearly maxed out on behavior score, meaning he had been playing well and doing so within his role. But then he started to role steal, which is something Valve addressed recently through its role report features. Players can tell the system a player is going out of their queued role and will punish the reported player while lessening the blow for the other teammates.
EternaLEnVy on Twitter
I realized after playing the patch that the dota team put in more time writing that blog post than fixing high match making.
This report feature basically deemed EE toxic for well over three months before a shift in the matchmaking forced him to start playing in a more traditional way. Even without the dedicated role steal report, he still dropped more than 8,000 behavior score in three months.
It likely took the system longer to ban EE because he is at a high MMR and was slowly rebuilding his behavior score, but going from 600 to 1,600 still had him in low priority, where a majority of the bans take place.
EternaLEnVy on Twitter
I’ve been abandoning one game per week n forfeiting games since 2014. Whether it becomes a big deal on reddit is random.
And just like he said, this is not a new thing for EE either, considering he frequently abandons matches. None of this will affect his actual career, though, since he will still be attending the upcoming MDL Chengdu Major with the team he built, the Fighting Pandas.
Unfortunately for EE, this will probably impact his ability to stream competitive games in simple matchmaking unless he successfully appeals the ban and can clean up his game. Without an appeal, he will have to wait until Aug. 8, 2020, to get back into competitive matchmaking.

Faceless Void Utility Carry [7.00] Updated
| 1. | Introduction |
| 2. | Why a utility semi-carry? |
| 3. | While laning – Keep your creep wave close |
| 4. | Why the incremental item build? |
| 5. | Build order quick-reference |
| 6. | Conclusion |
Introduction
The ‘new meta’ you’ll see in tons of 1k or 2k games is safelane void with vanguard for survivability, radiance and octarine.
The problem with this is, there are so many problems actually.
1) There are many better heroes that can benefit from the safe lane plus periodic jungle farming.
2) Void is either a full on tanky carry capable of team wiping, or he just gets targeted and killed off early on because this build is EXTREMELY EXPENSIVE and offers no early game strengths aside from being durable enough to run away or hope your team comes to your aid before you finally die.
3) Late game you fall off. Like, you only get kills by being lucky with this build.
4) Completely depends on another carry to pull off the victory
The reason for this build is because he no longer has a 25% evasion chance from backtrack, so you have to use time walk defensively. This is fine in some games but not all, especially the instant the enemy team recognizes you are building a tank vo >
Why a utility semi-carry?
With him losing backtrack and the 25% chance at completely evading a magical target spell or a physical attack, and now also him losing his extended duration ultimate with Aghanim’s Scepter, you cannot pull off a hard carry unless the enemy is dumb enough to let the game extend enough for his items to be completed or for void to free-farm enough to get all of his endgame team-wipe build items.
I played plenty of games with a full-on carry void, and plenty with the ‘new meta’ as well as other builds and it just doesn’t work out in most situations. I don’t even prefer radiance on him. You end up completely relying on your teammates. So that’s where utility team-supporting void comes in!
The fact that you are going to be in the front-line of almost every team fight makes you having the Vladmir’s Offering an almost necessity. If you put it on another team member they might die which compromises the entire team and makes it weaker. You are the strengthening bond of the team. You also save another hero from having to buy it, which opens up other item options for them further strengthening the team. Why no radiance? Because while it does give 17% miss-rate scorch to the entire enemy team surrounding you as well as denies blink attacks, it just simply costs too much. It turns vo >
While laning – Keep your creep wave close
You MUST last hit even if it’s the offlane and the other heroes are focusing you. Void specifically is built to withstand the offlane, almost better than any other carry hero. This allows the main carry to take advantage of the safe lane farm.
You must use the stick and your Q to last hit and deny your own creeps as much as possible to keep the creep wave near your tower. You get the bonus armor near the tower, plus you can use it to your advantage to initiate the enemy and trick them into getting hit by the tower while you properly evade everything they throw at you. Haha. Dota 2 krobelus kinetic gem for faceless void
If the lane is relatively easy, you can auto attack (making sure you still try to last hit) and push the lane out far, then instantly run and kill the hard camp near the ancients, then rotate back to your lane once it is pushed back towards your tower. You have to have balls to solo lane, so if you are too uneasy and can’t seem to get the last hits you need, demand a ranged support come with you to help you farm.
Why the incremental item build?
The incremental small items are a combination of all 3 of the best builds I’ve played with to allow him early survivability, early ganking capabilities, and then mid-to-endgame full utility support and kill potential.
The final items of this build are for extremely extended late game to turn him back into more of a hard carry to a >
Build order quick-reference
– GET THE RUNE. I REPEAT GET THE RUNE. (unless you have an alchemist or 2 early farm dependent carries)
– Secure tons of last hits with quelling blade; if you can’t last hit, this hero is not for you. Use the magic stick early along with the Poorman’s Shield and Ring of Health to keep going out and last hitting even if you have to use your time walk after taking damage.
– Rush the midas but get treads and toggle them for last hitting and being attacked if needed. The treads are your initial hp bank and speed away from towers.
– Buy TP scrolls as needed to aid the team, this should be a given.
– Bloodthorn and Silver Edge are very beneficial as items because they basically combine 2 pre-existing items and put them into 1 slot, almost giving you 8 items instead of 6.
Conclusion
If you can pull this off correctly, it is so far the most durable, most effective, most cost efficient and team strengthening core utility/carry builds I’ve ever played in the game.
As long as you can last hit and keep the creep wave EXACTLY where you want it, I’ve been able to get all the the starter items plus an orchid or rush the echo-vlads between 16 and 20 minutes usually. If it’s a rough lane maybe 22 mins. You can even push the lane out and rotate between the hard camp and back to lane since the Q distance is extended even more. Very safe.
Test it out yourself. Let me know what worked and didn’t work for you! Compare it to the (lame) vanguard-radiance-octarine core build and you’ll see the difference in team fighting.
Update: May 4th – Added an alternate utility build to aid in teamfights against extremely right click dependant melee teams.
Update: December 19th 2016 – Changed the build around for 7.00

Dota 2 News: StarLadder ImbaTV Minor Season 2 Team Overview
ESTNN Dota 2 Writer Veselin Ignatov walks us through the last DPC Minor before TI 9.
The ESL One Birmingham seemed like yet another walk in the park for Team Secret. Despite the fact that the event finished just a few days ago, a new tournament is already on the horizon. However, this time it is also included in the DPC calendar, which makes it a lot more valuable for some of the teams.
The StarLadder ImbaTV Dota 2 Minor Season 2 is going to be the last Minor for this DPC season. Beside the DPC points, it’s also very important due to the fact that the top two teams will also earn a slot for the EPICENTER Major, which is also the last Major and the last chance for some teams to qualify for the biggest event in Dota 2 – The International 2019. So far, eight out of twelve slots are already set, which indicates that there are four more to go.
This is going to be the second Minor for this DPC season organized by StarLadder. The event will take place from 12th to 16th of June in Kiev, Ukraine. Similar to the other Minors, the prize pool will be $300,000.
Teams
There will be a total of eight teams from all regions.
Europe
Ninjas in Pyjamas is one of the two European teams at StarLadder. Their performance has gradually improved as the season has gone on, which is clearly a very positive sign for them. In fact, they are currently in 8th place in the DPC ranking, which means that they have already secured themselves a spot for TI. What’s more, NiP also won the last Minor that they went to – Dota Pit, which makes them one of the deadliest squads here.
The second European team is Alliance. They were able to get a slot for the Minor after defeating The Final Tribe in the LB qualifiers. Considering the current placement of the team, they definitely need to get that slot for EPICENTER. Should they manage to do that, their next goal should be a good placement there. That’s the only possible way to this year’s TI as a direct invite. If they fail to qualify directly, they`d have to go through the regional qualifiers and as we know, they are not always the safest path.
North America
Since Valve reduced the number of NA slots, the only team to defend ‘Murica is Complexity. They had a very hard qualifier to go through, having to deal with the likes of beastcoast and J. storm. Despite that, the end result was in their favor.
CoL has only 133 DPC points right now, which makes their road to TI very, very hard. Regardless of that, nothing is impossible in Dota as it’s been proven many times.
South America
Team Anvorgesa is the chosen one to defend the South American pride in Kiev. The young squad was able to deal with some of the biggest SA teams during the qualifiers. The StarLadder Minor is going to give them a lot of experience which will definitely help them out in the future.
It seems like this year was definitely not favoring Natus Vincere. The TI 1 Champions were just unable to recover after Dendi’s departure, even though many people blamed him for their underperformance. This Minor was some glimmer of hope for the Ukrainians but they couldn’t deal with Winstrike.
The Russian team is back on the big stage after they missed out on several events. In fact, they nearly made it through the EPICENTER qualifiers until they met Virtus. Pro. The CIS powerhouse was able to sweep through them and eventually ended up winning the qualifiers.
China
Similar to Europe, two teams will defend the Chinese banner in Ukraine. The first one is EHOME, one of the strongest teams when it comes down to Minors.
EHOME are currently occupying the last spot which gives a direct invite for TI 9. However, in order to secure it, they need to get a top-two finish here. If they fail to do so, getting to TI through the qualifiers will not be possible.
Many people thought that the second Chinese team is going to be Keen Gaming. Little did they know, Team Sirius had other plans. They were able to pull off an amazing comeback in the LB of the qualifiers against KG. This will be the first DPC tournament for Sylar and his team-mates for this season.
Southeast Asia
Sadly, the days where Mineski was one of the best teams in the world are long gone. They are currently in a very similar state to Alliance. The SEA team needs to win at all cost if they want to have a chance of getting a direct invite.
Their biggest accomplishment so far is getting a 2nd place at ESL One Mumbai. However, this wasn’t a DPC event, which means that they didn’t earn any points from it.
Conclusion
StarLadder ImbaTV Dota 2 Minor Season 2 starts in just six days from now. Make sure to watch the games because they are surely going to be worthwhile.
In the meantime, feel free to follow us on Facebook and Twitter for the latest esports news.

Dota 2 Workshop – Color Texture Light Baking
This gu >olor texture from a high resolution sculpted source and applying it to the low resolution in-game asset.
DEFINING COLOR
- Dota 2’s in-game lighting is quite subtle and as a result we tend to lose a lot of the sculptural detail in the character’s normal maps.
- We offset this by baking – or painting – the light into the color texture.
AMBIENT OCCLUSION
Start with the predominant color of the character
Bake an ambient occlusion map (AO Map) of the model.
Multiply the ambient occlusion layer on top of the base color at an 80% opacity.
POINT LIGHT MAP
- Place a couple of simple white point lights in your scene and render out a light map.
- You don’t want ambient occlusion in this light pass, just pure point light information, preferably with a material that captures specular highlights.
- Turn off projected shadows. Typically, multiple point light maps are baked with lights in various positions then blended in Photoshop into one map for more precise control.
- The point light map captures more sculptural information than is possible with a pure AO map.
- We bake this map separately from the AO as we want to control the two elements differently.
- The point light map also gives you a good starting point to introduce your top-to-bottom, light-to-dark gradient.
- Clamp the shadows so they don’t darken the base map unnecessarily.
- A 90 90 90 (RGB) screen layer at 85% opacity on top of the point light map is a good place to start.
- You can group these two layers together to make them easier to blend onto the base map.
- The point light group is layered above the AO map.
- Set the point light group’s blending mode to 100% soft light.
- This constitutes the ‘underpainting’ of the texture. Because we have a strong sculptural base to the texture we don’t need to paint too much in the way of lighting and shadow information.
COLOR MAP
The majority of the painting is done in the color layers.
The color group is blended on top of other layers in overlay mode at 80% opacity.
- Dota 2 has a very bright and intense palette with lots of saturated colors. Layers with certain blend modes can blow out the palette into unusual colors, so it’s worth clamping shadows and highlights to avoid excessive contrast. How aggressively you do this is best determined on a per character basis.
- For this character the color layer group was duplicated and given a blending mode of lighten at 30% opacity.
The color layer group was duplicated again and given a blending mode of darken at 50% opacity. This allows the shadows and highlights to be controlled independently.
GRAPHIC PATTERNS
- Most of Dota’s characters have large crisp graphic patterns to aid legibility.
- These patterns can be blocked in loosely on the initial rough texture then later enhanced by a masked color layer.
- A layer mask is created using the lasso tool.
- Then color is painted on to sharpen edges and make colors more consistent.
Color is loosely painted inside the layer mask to preserve a sharp edge to the design. The blending mode is set to normal at 80% opacity.
FINAL ADJUSTMENTS
Make final adjustments to details like the eye highlights, improve the value gradient overall, and adjust the saturation.
This color texture is now perfectly synched to all of the details in the normal map.

Dota 2 update brings Abaddon and Steam summer sale goodness
Have you heard? Dota 2 is officially released now, and what better way to celebrate than to release a new hero. Abaddon is a ghostly knight with a glowing blue horse, typically played as a support role. He’s rather special in that fact that he has a habit of refusing to die thanks to his ultimate Borrowed Time. He can also heal and shield enemies while also throwing the hurt his enemies way when the time calls for it. Also in this update: a wealth of cosmetic items, all themed around the ongoing Steam summer sale.
First lets talk about Abaddon. He’s a really fun hero, with one of most versatile in the game. He’s mainly played as a support hero due to his beneficial abilities with Death Coil and Aphotic Shield, but because he’s a strength hero he can play the role of a semi-carry or a tank.
Lets take a look at his abilities:
Death Coil: A targeted ability, Death Coil can either damage enemies or heal allies. It has a respectable 800 unit range and can be used to finish off fleeing enemies or a last minute save on your friends. Casting this ability not only consumes mana but also costs some of Abaddon’s health. The cost is dealt as pure damage, and can also be used to deny yourself if your death is certain.
Aphotic Shield: A shield that blocks damage and damages enemies, this is ability has a ton of uses. You can place it on any allied unit, meaning heroes or creeps. When it has blocked a certain amount of damage, the shield explodes dealing the total absorbed damage in large AoE around the target. It also removes certain negative buffs and stuns.
Curse of Avernus: Abaddon’s passive ability, Curse of Avernus affects enemies and allies alike with different effects. Whenever Abaddon strikes an enemy they will have their movement speed reduced. In addition any ally that attacks the affected target will have their attack speed and movement speed buffed for a short duration. This also works on towers.
Borrowed Time: This ultimate is why Abaddon is simply one of the hardest to kill heroes in the game. When activated most negative buffs are removed and any damage Abaddon takes will instead heal him for that amount. If the ability isn’t on cooldown, Borrowed Time will activate automatically when Abaddon reaches a critical threshold. Also any projectiles will be dodged if Borrowed Time is activated before they hit.

Dota 2 tidehunter rampage
Dota 2 tidehunter rampage
Dota 2 tidehunter rampage
Leviathan, the Tidehunter, is a melee strength hero who is formidable due to his uncommonly tough hide and his ocean spells that sweep enemies upward. He can be played as a support or as an offlane hero whose greatest strengths lie in being able to take heavy amounts of damage in the early game and the disabling powers of his spells.
Though he does not deal especially high damage at any point in the game, his spells can have a devastating effect on the enemy without expending much mana. Dota 2 tidehunter rampage He is able to send forth a spray of water to slow down the enemy retreat and his outrageous ultimate, Ravage, throttles enemies in a massive area around him. The durability of his Kraken Shell allows him to shrug off damage for absurd survivability against low damage attacks. Tidehunter’s ability to shrug off damage and his enormous strength gain makes him very durable, and the power of his spells means he is a tank the enemy very much needs to target.

- Gush’s projectile travels at a speed of 2500.
- Gush first applies the debuff, then the damage.
- When upgraded, Gush releases a big wave, instead of a single target projectile. The wave always travels its full distance.
- When targeting a unit, the wave is released towards its direction on cast. However, it does not home in on the target.
- The wave travels at a speed of 1500 instead of 2500 like the non-upgraded projectile, taking 1.47 seconds to travel the full distance.
- The wave can hit units up to 2460 range away (travel distance + radius).
- The wave fully affects invisible enemies and enemies inside the Fog of War.
- Provides 200 radius ground vision around each hit enemy for 2 seconds.
- The wave does not provide any vision.
- The second sound is used by the wave.
- Damage block stacks with passive melee damage block.
- The damage reduction is Damage Block and the debuff removal is a strong dispel.
- The damage reduction is always on and is not connected to the damage threshold for debuff removal.
- The Damage Block does not work against wards ( Plague Ward , Mass Serpent Ward , Death Ward ).
- Does not reduce physical damage from spells, except from Moon Glaives and The Swarm .
- Only damage from player owned sources (after reductions) is counted towards the debuff removal.
- Damage counter for the debuff removal resets when Tidehunter does not take player based damage for 6 seconds.
- It can’t dispel those deal damage before debuff, since it applies dispel on damage but not after the whole effect.
- A debuff removal proc is indicated by a sound effect and water particles on Tidehunter’s skin.
- The tentacles travel at a speed of 725.
- Hit units are knocked up 350 range for the initial 0.5 seconds of the stun.
- While in the air, other units may pass below hit airborne units.
- The damage is applied upon landing, not upon getting hit.
- Ravage’s effect is caused by a 250 units wide ring, which expands around the cast location at the given speed.
- This means units within 250 radius upon cast are hit instantly.
- The ring takes exactly 1.38 seconds to cover the remaining distance.
- It also means that it is possible to evade the effects by blinking inside the expanding ring shortly after cast.

Hyhy dota 2 stay in the trees

hyhy AMA – ‘I regret having to reject xiao8’s team invite to form Newbee before TI4’
Today, former Zenith player hyhy has done an AMA – AskMeAnything – on reddit. We compiled the highlights, as he talks about a possible return to the competitive Dota 2 scene and his venture into League of Legends.
Hyhy on..
. his adventure within the LeagueOfLegends scene:
Following the conclusion of TI2, hyhy was forced to make a decision between pro Dota 2 and his studies. His school wouldn’t let him take leave for yet another TI, as it collided with exams. League of Legends pro circuit offered a more flexible timetable and thus hyhy decided to venture into the competitive LoL scene. “I quit in the end because my good friend and very same person who brought me into garena, left the team. I kinda miss playing dota too”, says hyhy.
. the differences between League and Dota 2:
While both are “excellent games” for him, hyhy feels that Dota is a more strategic game, whereas League can be decided by raw skill alone. He draws a comparison between TI4 and Worlds, saying that Newbee won out of sheer tactical superiority, whereas Samsung White was individually more skilled than their competition. “We cant say the DK/ EG lineup at that time was any less skilled than Newbee. But I think SKT/ Samsung White were clearly the most skilled team when they won the respective LoL Worlds finals.”
Hyhy also mentions that the skill cap in League – if he had to decide between the two – is probably higher, considering that “most of their heroes have skillshots and landing them can be tough. The evolutions in the champions also allow 8 or more spells in a single hero, cooldown reduction aspect in the game also requires spells to be fast, not compromising accuracy and timing where they are casted.”
. the FreeToPlay documentary:
“It was very meaningful to me and also to Fear and Dendi, I believe. Having a documentary made about your experience and love for the game kinda validates the time and effort we put into DotA over these long years. The best part about the documentary for me was having met and befriended the Valve filming team, they are some of the best people I’ve had the chance to meet.”
. a possible comeback to the professional Dota 2 scene:
Hyhy mentions that if he returns, it is unlikely to be as a caster or coach, rather as a player. For now he wants to focus on streaming and see if opportunities arise. Offers regarding a possible coaching position have been made, however hyhy noted that “if I were to go to china, I’ll probably be playing instead of coaching anyways.” Interestingly enough, he also mentions that, while he would take on any role his team needed him on, if he was to make a comeback, he would prefer the support role. He does not like playing offlane though, because “I tend to feed recklessly against 3.”
. a return of Zenith:
According to hyhy, it is unlikely that there will ever be another Zenith, considering that xy is studying in the UK and IceIceIce is currently playing in China with no plans to return anytime soon. He says that there is “no point reforming [Zenith] with its essence lost.”
.. his current status:
Hyhy is currently serving his national service and has thus no immediate plans/possibilities to play outside of Singapore. He is however ready to venture into the competitive circuit, but will focus on streaming for now, thus the AMA. He will however be done with the national service in a year, and has pointed out that that would be the time he would play outside of the SEA region, if the situation presented itself.
. DotA influencing his life:
“It’s a way of life, meeting the different people over the years and the enriching experiences that came with it. It’s gonna be tough explaining, but to me it was a valuable privilege. It’s always an uphill battle convincing parents or seniors on a pathway that set asides the typical studies and career, it took me years of dedication and success in gaming before I had my way with this. Or perhaps they just gave up :P”
Interesting tidbits:
– Hates his name being pronounced “hi hi”
– Does not smoke anymore!
– 5.9k Party MMR, does not believe Solo MMR matters
– thinks BigDaddyN0tail is the cutest player Dota has ever had
– “We [Him and Yamateh] both have an immense fear of flying. Flying to Seattle for TI almost killed us.”
– Shadow Fiend is still his favorite hero and while he likes the new model, he prefers the WC3 model
– Describes himself as a “beer person” and has still has dreams about German beer from when he went to TI1
– Does not regret his infamous SF pick from TI1; “Given the situation at that time, my team had no better alternative for the last pick, and it was up to me to go with a surprise pocket pick, I went with the hero I was most confident with but sadly it didn’t work”
