Evil Geniuses

Evil Geniuses, sometimes known simply as EG, is one of the oldest and most established organizations within the esports community. The club doesn’t restrict its efforts to just one esports game, like many others do, but instead plays a wide range of titles in order to gain more experience, versatility and revenue streams. The esports currently played by EG include Dota 2 and Call of Duty among others. This article deals with EG’s Dota 2 team.

Evil Geniuses: Early beginings

Evil Geniuses entered Dota 2 after the end of The International 2011. The team’s first roster was made up of the following 5 players: Fear, MiSeRy, DeMoN, PlaymatE and Pajkatt. With this lineup, EG had only a few notable results in 2012. Other players that joined the EG roster and had the chance to prove their worth in the first few years of the team’s presence in Dota 2 were Lacoste, Maelk, BuLba, UNiVeRsE, Bdiz, SexyBamboe, Jeyo, Fogged, MSS, mason and Arteezy.

With most of its early lineups, EG had decent and even excellent results, getting multiple top 3 finishes in 2013.

Glory Days

At the start of 2014, 3 formidable players joined Evil Geniuses, bringing the team’s skill level and results to a whole new level. These players were ppd (captain), Zai (position 4 support) and Arteezy (carry). After they joined, EG quickly went from good to great, winning no less than 8 tournaments in 2014, including Monster Energy Invitational, The Summit and World Esports Championship. The team also got an excellent 3 rd place finish at The International 2014.

After the departure of mason, Arteezy and Zai (the last two went to Team Secret at the start of 2015), Fear rejoined the team as a player and two other players were brought in. One was Aui_2000 and the other one was a very young prodigy who would come to amaze the world with his performances in the mid lane. His name was Sumail and thanks in part to his exceptional individual skills, Evil Geniuses had a phenomenal year in 2015. With ppd as captain and every player on the roster playing his role to perfection, EG won Dota 2 Asia Championships 2015, Dota Pit League Season 3 and then The International 2015. They also had numerous other top 3 placements in high-level events, but these 3 achievements definitely stood out.

The International 2015

By the time TI 5 started, EG’s roster had been well trained and had great cohesion. Sumail and Aui_2000 had been playing for the team for more than 6 months, Fear was everything he needed to be as the position 1 carry, UNiVeRsE was probably the strongest offlaner in the world at the time, and ppd was really good as the team’s captain, crafting winning strategies and outplaying opponents at every stage of the game, from the drafting phase to the late game fights.

Having won the lower bracket Final, EG qualified for the Grand Final and got another chance at beating CDEC and winning the Aegis of Champions. With everyone on the team playing the best Dota of their lives, Evil Geniuses won the Grand Final with the score of 3 – 1, creating some memorable moments along the way. The last of those 4 games was basically won in Roshan’s Pit, thanks to a scene that has come to be known as the “6 million dollars Echo Slam”. Practically, EG’s Ancient Apparition’s Ice Vortex + Ice Blast, combined with UNiVeRsE’s ultimate, killed 4 of CDEC’s members while they were trying to kill Roshan, giving EG a decisive advantage which couldn’t be undone.

The decline

Soon after winning The International 2015 and 6.6 million dollars that came along with this victory, EG started to decline quite heavily, winning just 4 more tournaments over the next 3 years. The team has tried all kinds of strategies and roster changes in these years, but to no avail. Still, the North Americans have remained one of the best Dota 2 teams in the world and they’re without a doubt a top 10 team right now. Furthermore, at The International 2016, the claimed 3 rd place after having a rather modest season. So not everything has gone bad for EG over these last 3 years. It’s just that the team hasn’t performed to the standard that had been by ppd and the 2015 roster.

Current situation

Evil Geniuses is currently sitting at number 9 within the Dota Pro Circuit rankings table, with 1335 points. The team has won a single Dota Pro Circuit LAN event this season, namely GESC: Indonesia Dota2 Minor. EG’s main objective at the moment is to get a top 8 finish at the end of the season so that it can get a direct invite at The International 2018.

EG’s current roster is made up of the following 5 players: Arteezy, Fear, Sumail, Cr1t – and MiSeRy, with the last one being the team’s captain.

Her illusions are pretty nasty.

At the beginning of the game she’s a hero with no power. At the end of the game she dishes out tons of damage, is highly mobile, and is hard to kill.

She’s just a tiny bit weak this patch, really.

Dispersion is a great carry ability

Desolate might seem mediocre, but you forget her illusions also get it

Her ult is very good for fighting – generally illusions are a carry ability. There’s nothing wrong with a hard carry being good at ganking.

So she has 3 hard carry abilities.

Her ult allows her to kill supports without being there. Her ult can turn any fight, just like a well place chrono can do. Spectre is a better all-round carry than Troll for example.
And take Anti Mage: He is one of the best carries, and he has no “steroids” either. Mana break is best in early-to-mid game. But he is considered a hard carry because of his ability to get farm much faster than most others.
Spectres farming abilities are similar to terrorblade, her global presence is similar to NaturesProphet, allowing you to turn a 3v3 into a 4v3 or sth like that.

good point with Anti Mage, some people say he is hard carry, but in fact he is one of the weakest carries but he comes online fast

good point with Anti Mage, some people say he is hard carry, but in fact he is one of the weakest carries but he comes online fast

Spectre is the opposite. She’s one of the strongest carries, but she takes forever to come online.

Spectre is the opposite. She’s one of the strongest carries, but she takes forever to come online.

id say she comes online faster than am, she only needs 2-3 items
Diffusal manta or
Urn vanguard radiance and shes already quite strong, whereas am who generally gets bf actually tends to get his core items slower in exchange for much much faster end items.

Specter is very hard carry, she can be tanky as hell, deal a ton of damage, but her nastiest ability is to buyback after dying in a push and immediately rejoining the fight. Combine it with Aegis and she’s a nightmare to deal with late game, much more difficult to deal with than any other hard carry in the game.

The reason Specter (at least in my experience) underperforms most games is because players can’t coordinate a Specter game. The player picking her can’t farm adequetely, the team doesn’t create space, the other team comes online much sooner and just keeps the pressure up.

You should never expect to win early with a Specter on your team. Be ready to sacrifice a lane if it means getting her more farm, since she can push out that lane and join the team if a fight breaks out. Even against megas, the game is not over with Specter on the team. The biggest problem with most Specter players is that they jungle instead of pushing lanes when farming, not only giving her less farm, but also leaving her vulnerable when the enemy is pushing. Just as your team is responsible for making space in the early game, you (specter) are responsible for easing the burden around the mid to late game.

But she does require a more coordinated team than other hard carries, which is why I advise against picking her in pubs.

only people who call spectre hard carry are the noobs who played alot of dota1 but dont know much about dota2. in dota2 spectre has low stats per level and low stats starting and extremely small abilities and passives, thus with all this combined. spectre is far from the hardest of carries in dota2. maybe havebeen good hard carry in dota1, but not dota2. majority of other carries have more than spectre. spectre only does good once he gets radiances that is because radiance is decent in the mid game on any hero. not just spectre. many carries can beat him late game even luna with aghas refreshesr will have no problems eliminating him along with the rest of his team. her ult only would do 5 times his hp with aghs refresher, which is enough to take out him and the rest of his team mates. she also has 2500 cast range on her ult can be cast on the ground, and most abiliteis are no where near that cast range. and it’s a huge radius aoe, and each cast of her ult works independently of each other meaning double cast means twice as much dps per second. this just luna. Dota 2 cambiar equi poise steroid majority of other carries in dota2 just have much more than spectre. he stands no chance against ursa in the late assuming ursa built smart, and just about any other carry. medusa is one of the few other carries about as bad as spectre. when it comes to weak stats, combined with abilities and passives, combined with stats per level. she is also below the majority of other carries in dota2.

Top 5 Best Builds in Dota Underlords (July 2019 Meta)

A key strategy to winning more games in Underlords is to have powerful Alliance synergies and combos.

While individual Alliance effects are great on their own, some Alliances just have better synergies and combos when paired with certain builds and units.

Here are our Top 5 best builds and strategies in Dota Underlords for the current meta (July 2019).

Use these team compositions in your next games and watch your win rates and rankings go up.

1. Knights and Trolls Build

This build is composed of all 6 Knights and 4 Trolls, a total of 9 units since Batrider is in both alliances.

The Knights & Trolls build takes advantage of a tanky, defensive Knight lineup thanks to their alliance synergy, while the Trolls’ increased attack speed effect will compensate for their lack of damage.

This build might suffer a bit during the early-mid game before getting a Troll Warlord to complete the lineup. But when it goes online with at least 4 Knights and 4 Trolls, that’s when it starts to wreck your enemies.

A good 10th late-game unit would be Necrophos which triggers two more synergies, Heartless and Warlock. His heals are a great addition to the already beefy lineup, too.

Hero Lineup:

  • Chaos Knight, Dragon Knight, Abaddon, Omniknight, Batrider, Luna
  • Shadow Shaman, Witch Doctor, Troll Warlord, Necrophos

Synergies: 6 Knights, 4 Trolls, 2 Human, 2 Heartless, 2 Warlock, 1 Demon
Items: Coordinated Assault (Troll Global), Age of Chivalry (Knight Global)

2. Hunters and Warriors Build

This build allows you to deal a lot of damage and take down targets one by one. Get 6 Hunters on the board with at least 3 Warriors to protect them.

Position your squishy hunters in a Box formation in the corner of the board to defend them from Assassins, and to make use of Drow’s Precision Aura which gives bonus attack speed to units 1 cell away. (Related: Basic Unit Formations Guide)

One cool thing about the Hunters + Warriors build is it consists of several of the most powerful individual units with game-changing abilities like Medusa, Tidehunter, Kunkka and Doom. Try to trigger their spells as soon as possible. (Related: How to Gain Mana Guide)

Get a Pudge on the board to trigger the Heartless’s reduced armor aura with Drow, increasing your overall physical damage output. Gyrocopter is a decent addition in the late-game too, which synergies with Sniper’s Deadeye alliance effect.

Hero Lineup:

  • Drow Ranger, Medusa, Windranger, Mirana, Tidehunter, Sniper
  • Pudge, Kunkka, Doom
  • Gyrocopter

Synergies: 6 Hunters, 3 Warriors, 2 Heartless, 1 Demon, 2 Deadeye
Items: Hunter’s Focus (Hunter Global), Unstoppable (Warrior Global), Mask of Madness, DPS items

3. Knights and Dragons Build

This build is very similar to the Knights and Trolls build, but instead of the Trolls doing the damage, one hero will carry your whole team, and his name is made up of the two main alliances for this build—Dragon Knight!

Get all 6 Knights for a super beefy defensive frontline. Then add in one more Dragon, preferably Viper, to trigger the Dragon synergy effect. This will let Dragon Knight transform into the Elder Dragon form at the start of the round, ready to burn all your enemies into ash.

In the late game, add in a Necrophos to enable the Heartless effect. Finally, get a 2nd Warlock, preferably Enigma or Alchemist, to trigger the Warlock alliance effect.

Hero Lineup:

  • Dragon Knight, Viper
  • Chaos Knight, Batrider, Luna, Omniknight, Abaddon
  • Necrophos/Enigma/Warlock

Synergies: 6 Knights, 2 Dragons, 2 Heartless, 2 Warlock
Items: Fall From Grace, Dragon’s Hoard (Dragon Global)

4. Mages, Knights, and Dragons Build

Knights are just so freaking good in this patch, and they are a great complement to protect a squishy Mage lineup.

For this build, your damage output will mostly come from your Mages’ powerful spells that deal quick bursts of magical damage. Lich, Keeper of the Light and Razor all deal enormous amounts of AoE damage too.

A 6 Mages lineup is almost always required for this build to trigger the -100% Magic Resistance debuff, which is essential when facing defense-heavy builds such as Knights. Remember, the Knights’ damage reduction buffs apply for magical damage too.

The Knights + Mages lineup can also trigger two supplementary alliances by adding in just one hero—the almighty Dragon Knight!

DK will enable the Dragon synergy with Puck, as well as the 4 Human effect which allows your attacks to Silence enemy targets. In addition, his Breathe Fire skill benefits from the reduced magic resistance buff from the Mage synergy.

You can swap some of the Knights for Humans to trigger the 6 Humans alliance, great for disabling your enemies’ spells.

Finally, don’t hesitate to trade Knights for high-tier units with powerful magic damage in the late game. Gyro, Shadow Fiend and Disruptor are some examples that can benefit from the reduced magic resistance buff.

Hero Lineup:

  • Lich, Keeper of the Light, Crystal Maiden, Lina, Razor, Puck
  • Dragon Knight, Omniknight, Abaddon, Chaos Knight
  • Optional/Trade: Kunkka, Disruptor, Gyrocopter, Shadow Fiend

Synergies: 6 Mages, 4 Knights, 4 Humans, 2 Dragons, 2 Heartless, 1 Demon
Items: Final Flash, Fall from Grace, Mana regen items (Arcane Boots, Booch of the Aggressor)

5. Assassins, Druids and Elusives Build

Let’s stray away from the Knights meta this time and talk about an Assassin build!

The Assassins + Druids + Elusives build focuses on taking down the enemies’ DPS units in the backlines.

The Assassin alliance’s increased critical strike rates and damage will allow you to burst down vulnerable targets one by one before they unleash their spells and deal significant damage to your team.

Two Druids will act as your frontline defense and soak up all the damage while your sneaky, stealthy units focus on their assassinations. Treant and Enchantress’s healing abilities will also help your units to survive a bit longer.

Start with the basic 1-cost units like Bounty Hunter and Bloodseeker in the early game along with some Druids to tank and heal. Then, swap them later with the more powerful Assassins like Phantom Assassin and Templar Assassin.

Gear up your Assassins with attack speed items such as Mask of Madness and Moon Shard to increase the chances of triggering the critical strikes.

Add in a 2nd Scaled hero like Tidehunter or Medusa if you’re facing a lot of magic damage enemies. Otherwise, keep rolling and aim to upgrade your units into 2-3 Stars.

Hero Lineup:

  • Phantom Assassin, Templar Assassin, Slark, Morphling, Sand King, Queen of Pain
  • Treant Protector, Enchantress/Lone Druid
  • Optional: Tidehunter/Medusa

Synergies: 6 Assassins, 3 Elusives, 2 Druids, 2 Savage, 1 Demon
Items: Pocket Sand (Assassin Global), ASPD items (Mask of Madness, Moon Shard)

Conclusion

Which composition builds is your favorite for the current patch? What Alliances do you think are overpowered or underrated in this meta?

Gaming Glossary: What Do GG, GLHF, LAN, MMR, OOM, OP, Ping And Other Gaming Terms Mean?

A video game player prepares for a match at the League of Legends North American Championship in Manhattan Beach, California, Feb. 22, 2014. Photo: Getty Images/AFP/Robyn Beck

The gaming world can often be overwhelming for new players due to the insider terms and slang — it can even be confusing for seasoned gamers on occasion. The glossary of terms below will make your life just a little bit easier, so you can concentrate on the game.

AAA – Basically a game that has a large budget for development and promotion.

AFK – Away from keyboard.

Alpha – The first stage of out-of-house testing for a game to find any bugs or glitches in the software.

Alt – Alternate, as in take an alternate route or skill.

AOE – Area of effect.

B – Backing, as in you need health and/or mana and need to go back to the base. Usually used in MOBAs like “League of Legends.”

Beta – Comes after alpha testing and opens up the testing stage to a larger group of people. There are two types of beta testing — open means anyone can try it out, closed means you have to be invited.

Buff – An effect that is placed on a character that makes them stronger or gives them a benefit like more experience.

Bug – A problem that causes crashes, unintended character actions or other unexpected events.

Cheese – A strategy players use to win a game; can often be sneaky or unorthodox.

Cooldown – The time you need to wait before being able to use a certain ability again.

DC – Disconnected.

Debuff – The negative of a buff; hampers a character in some way for the duration of the debuff.

DLC – Downloadable content. Basically additions to the game (and in some cases things that should have been included in the original game) that make it more interesting.

DPS – Damage per second.

Elo – A rating system for calculating players’ relative skill levels in competitive games. Mostly known for its use in “League of Legends.”

eSports – Where professional gamers play online (or sometimes LAN, but streamed online), often for money or other prizes. This is usually also multiplayer, like in “Dota 2.”

FPS – Usually means first-person shooter, a genre of game. Can also mean frames per second, a measure of a system’s performance.

FTP – Free to play.

FTW – For the win.

Gank – To kill another player by surprise.

GG – Good game. Said at the end of the game to thank team members.

GLHF – Good luck, have fun. Often said at the start of the game.

Going ham – Going hard as a motherf—–.

Grind – Performing fairly mindless repetitive tasks to gain a reward.

HP – Hit points. The amount of damage a character can take before it dies.

Lag – Describes the time delay between a player requesting an action and the character in-game performing it. Normally used when the time delay is longer than expected.

LAN – Local area network.

LFG – Looking for group.

Comparing MOBAs: Dota 2 vs. League of Legends vs. Heroes of Newerth

Above: Dota 2, League of Legends, and Heroes of Newerth.

Note: We updated this comparison with new info and games here.

A casual observer would probably have a hard time telling the difference between League of Legends, Dota 2, and Heroes of Newerth. All three are spiritual successors to Defense of the Ancients, an insanely popular custom map for Warcraft III that pits two teams of five heroes against each other. That strategic, intense style of play has birthed a new genre, the multiplayer online battle arena (MOBA).

We’re here to help you see the differences between the three most popular MOBAs currently out on the market. Some of the discrepancies may seem small, but they can make a big difference with games this complicated.

First, let’s talk about how they’re similar. They’re all free-to-play and offer plenty of microtransactions (many of which are cosmetic). They’re all based on the structure made popular in Defense of the Ancients: Your team has to destroy the enemy’s base before the other team does.

You fight other players and monsters controlled by the computer to earn gold and experience so you can make your hero more powerful, which allows you to push through lanes of the other team’s defensive towers and monsters. Even the main map in each game is essentially the same. Each features two bases connected by three lanes, with a monster-filled jungle offering branching paths between them.

Now, let’s get into the differences. We’ll start by looking at some of the basic stats in the graph below, and then we’ll briefly highlight each game.

League of Legends (LOL)

Gallery: Gallery

Above: League of Legends gameplay.

League of Legends is easily the most popular MOBA out there. While its competitors offer all of their heroes for free, LOL only gives you 10 free characters at a time. Exactly which heroes changes every week. You’ll have to pay for any other champions you want, either with real money or in-game currency that you can earn (slowly) by playing.

LOL is the simplest one of the three to grasp. While still heavily based on the original Defense of the Ancients formula, gone are some of the more advanced techniques, like “denying” (the ability to kill your own monsters before the other team can, denying them gold and experience). LOL is generally faster than its competitors although by “faster” I mean matches may take 40 minutes instead of 50.

League of Legends also offers a couple of variants on the 5-on-5 play the genre is most famous for. One is just a smaller, 3-on-3 take on MOBA action, but the other, Dominion, is a quicker-paced mode where teams of five fight over circular control points. A fourth map, the Howling Abyss, let’s two teams of five battle on a chaotic, single lane .

Dota 2

Gallery: Gallery

Compared to LOL, Dota 2 is much more faithful to the original Defense of the Ancients. You won’t find any variants on the classic 5-on-5 map. However, Dota 2 does offer immediate access to all of its heroes, with microstransactions reserved for cosmetic stuff like character skins and announcer voices.

Being the newest of the bunch, Dota 2’s also the best looking. While all three feature visuals clearly inspired by Warcraft III’s art direction, Dota 2’s graphics have a cleaner gleam and shine to them.

Generally speaking, Dota 2 is slower than LOL. While the layout of the map is identical, Dota 2’s is a bit bigger. Actions, like movement speed and casting spells, are generally slower. Also, while LOL allows players to transport back to their home base at any time, you’ll need to have a stack of town portal scrolls handy if you want to get around in Dota 2. On the plus side, using the scrolls can send you to any friendly building, including towers.

Heroes of Newerth (HON)

Gallery: Gallery

Above: Heroes of Newerth in action.

Heroes of Newerth has more in common with Dota 2 than LOL. It’s a very literal spin-off of Defense of the Ancients. Dota 2 and HON even feature many items and heroes that, aside from their names, are pretty much identical. The biggest difference between them is the pacing. HON matches tend to move faster.

In addition to the standard 5-on-5 map, HON has two more official battlegrounds. One is a smaller field for 3-on-3 play while the other is another 5-on-5 map with a different layout. Players generally stick with the original.

Graphically, HON most closely resembles the original Warcraft III mod. It doesn’t have LOL’s cartoony, dark outlines or Dota 2’s sheen.

Those are the biggest differences, but fans of each game could argue endlessly over the smaller details of character balancing and other intricate mechanics.

Of course, these aren’t the only MOBAs on the market. Guardians of Middle-earth distills the experience for consoles by using a smaller map and featuring faster action. It also, of course, includes characters from Tolkien’s popular mythology. Super Monday Night Combat combines core concepts of MOBAs, like pushing lanes and attacking towers/turrets, and puts them into a team-based third-person shooter. Even mobile publisher Zygna has released a MOBA called Solstice Arena, which simplifies things by featuring 3-on-3 battles and getting rid of nonplayer monsters.

Above: Archers at the ready in Guardians of Middle-earth.

The genre will see new competition soon, too. Infinite Crisis will pit DC comic characters against each other in MOBA action later this year, and Blizzard is working on its own successor to the original Defense of the Ancients called Blizzard All-Stars.

Until then, if you’re feeling the itch to try your hand at this new kind of game, start with League of Legends. It’s the quickest to grasp, and it’s faster action is more satisfying for newer players. If you find yourself craving more complexity, try HON or Dota 2.

General DiscussionOP pubstomp picks

I was wondering, what pubstomp picks do you know of and in which situations. I’m talking about countering specific types of lineups, rather than heroes themselves.

Example, enemy has:

low AOE crowd control – meepo/brood/ck

low armor – slardar+lifestealer

low physical – oracle + huskar

weak laning phase – spirit braker/chen

primarily magical – phoenix

weak midlaner – visage/viper

low mobility – sandking/antimage

weak supports – batrider/natures

Ahh the good old ”i don’t know any better so let me suggest the OP heroes in the meta(veno/lich/sb/necro)”

PA on rightclick reliant lineup

bane+mirana,
shadow demon + mirana
kunka+mirana
kunka+pudge
pudge+techies
dark seer + bounty hunter
rhasta + nightstalker both roaming

have you tried the 13/10/2017

Clinkz when they got nothing to stop your ratting with like bkb piercing stun

too many melee + weak laners – Axe
hard carry junglers – riki + spirit breaker
STR right click – necro
high mobility – bloodseeker/legion
squishy ranged – lycan (rush deso before treads)

pls add more cuki, help us

Huskar is never countered in the 4k – bracket, ez pick to win stomps

Into Nyineup if enemy doesnt have omni, dazzle or shit like shat

that beats the point of this thread, if a hero can be picked into anything then it’s pointless to mention him here, as he accomplishes nothing special.

Low int = od
Glass cannon = axe, lc

Anything that involves a good team and hanters pudge in it kappa. Dota 2 pubstomp heroes lyrics

low aoe, squishy cores (drow strat for example) – CK

Momentum based team = lane shredder (viper, silencer, etc)

Against Pushing strat – Pudge, Sniper, Kotl, Tinker, Sven, offlaner with low cd stun

arc dogshit shitstain warden

lastpick od into heroes with bad mobility while your team has heroes that can tank for you

BS against low nuking low disable teams and weak offlane you can rape

what happened ? bored playing arc after thousands years ? lul

low mobility safe lane – clock, weaver, timber
mostly rightclick team – pugna, legion

slardar lineups – lich

Not only the armor buff, they tend to agrupate into the stunned target. Good way to aply all youe debuffs and the ult.

low hard lockdown/burst is slark?

^ slark can do, but bs > slark

lots of slows few stuns – weaver

Monkey king – any lane, any matchup(just dont play roaming)

i like picking clock into lineups who rely on bkb initiation like enigma
weak enemy safelane or level 1 jungle pick leads me into underlord, taking tier2 at about 15min if they let me

also i like bara or riki vs level1 junglers who tend to fall low, warding enemy jungle early on and ruining their game

im just 2.7k tho, tell me if theres sth wrong about that 🙂

bad catch – tinker/morphling/puck/storm
weak aoe nukes – tb/meepo/chen
bad vision – nightstalker/batrider
no dot – templar assassin

no stuns = storm

ive won so many games off of a last pick storm

Squishy midlaner & bad roamers – Arc Warden
No supports – Pudge, Riki, Bara
No stuns – Bloodcyka, Storm, Slark
Greedy picks – Drow strat
Magic dmg lineups – Lifestealer, Huskar, AM
Melee lineup – Techies
Squishy enemies – Puck, Zeus, Tinker
INT cores – Nyx
No burst dmg – Necro, Void

Tanky lineup or problematic tanky meta hero – lifestealer, not many ppl pick him that way i think but he is amazing vs high hp pool heroes

3 or more squishy heroes – pudge, lately i pick this guy only when i see multiple targets or very often go to pick for me when pa is in enemy team, its hard counter early-mid

Agi heroes especially slark usually hard to catch, he is bit out of meta but my answer is always axe he is real hard counter for slark

Everyone know invo, silencer and their best counter nyx its actually rly ez beat them when you focus them all game

Invis – sb with dust ultimate counter especially bh

No much control in enemy team, late game high potential and your team can 4 man early – storm spirit

WISP ALA IO COUNTER NOTHING AND EVERYTHING IN THIS GAME WITH 35%WR whats that mean?

The new heroes started their journey pretty underpowered, not even reaching 45% win rate in their opening days. Players getting acquainted with their skill set and some balance changes have finally made heroes playable in high level pubs and also made it possible to start discussing them, since it is unlikely they will be receiving anything but some minor number tweaks in the nearest future.

The Reach beta has concluded and the team is now working hard towards the Season 1 launch. Here we share some of the details on the upcoming Season, and what players can expect when they log in to play.

The new patch is wild, with all the positive and maybe some negative connotations this word implies. As such, we are trying to be extremely cautious when discussing it so that we don’t unnecessarily invoke some misguided disenchantment from the community.

62 new items are available for finding, not purchasing. You can now build your inventory through jungling and not spending your gold. Is this good? Bad? Who knows, it’s too early to tell.

The Reach Beta has been a valuable month for us at Elo. The feedback from our community has allowed us to make considerable progress in refining the key automated systems of the platform and we couldn’t possibly be more excited to see people begin to play in Season One.

This is going to be less of a stats recap and more of a farewell to a patch, which overstayed its welcome for at least a couple of months. Instead of going over the same heroes once more, we felt it is more appropriate to highlight some of the heroes which were outside of the meta at the tournament’s start, but nevertheless had a great impact in the later stages of MDL Chengdu.

Bounty runes, come back gold, ancient creeps, camps stacking, and more. The economy of Dota keeps growing and growing but how does that affect supports and cores?

We’ve done a lot of testing with our current systems in the Reach league and are finally confident in opening it up to more users. Divine level players may now participate in Reach, effective immediately.

The first major tournament of the season is finally happening. Get up to date with all the teams participating, their odds of winning it all, and more!

Patch 7.22 is certainly overstaying its welcome and it clearly shows in the current professional tournaments. There are almost no new meta developments and for the most part the Summit 11 concentrated on the same exact heroes as the tournaments prior.

Captains and drafters are some of the most revered pros in the scene. The genius drafting strategies and counter picks can win the game before the first bounty runes spawn. Here are some draft ideas to try out for your next battle cup tournament.

Reach had an exciting and informative first week of games, with over 1000 matches played, and over 1200 unique players participating. Here’s the rundown on week 1, and what’s coming down the pipeline.

The idea of a tanky frontline hero in the offlane has been repeated over and over again for the last several months. It makes sense on the professional scene, while working incredibly well in pubs. Building survivability items and allowing yourself to be initiated on has become the go to strategy for a lot of teams and it is unlikely to change until after the new patch is released.

MMR may just be a number but a higher number is superior. Read this article to learn a few tips and tricks on growing your MMR number.

The current meta has been established for a long time but teams still must find their slight edge. At ESL One Hamburg 2019, we saw more of what we’ve been seeing for a few months now.

Dota 2

Dota 2 is an Action RTS game, developed by Valve Corporation. The title was formally announced on October 13, 2010; and was released as a Free to Play game on July 9th, 2013 for Windows, and July 18th, 2013 for Mac OS and Linux. It is the successor to the very popular Warcraft 3 mod, Defense of the Ancients, which was based on the Aeon of Strife map for StarCraft.

Contents

Background story [ edit ]

Basic premise [ edit ]

Dota 2 is an RTS-styled MOBA-type competitive team game with RPG elements. Two competing teams (Radiant and Dire) consist of five players each. The main objective in Dota 2 is to destroy the enemy Ancient inside their stronghold. These strongholds are protected by multiple towers down 3 lanes. Instead of building armies of units like in classical RTS games, each player controls a single Hero, a strategically-powerful unit with unique abilities and characteristics which can be improved over the course of the game. Experience is earned when nearby creeps and heroes die, and once collecting enough experience, the hero gains a level, which increases the hero’s stats, and at most levels the hero gains a skill point which can be spent to unlock or upgrade one of the hero’s abilities. Alongside a hero’s fixed abilities, each hero has 6 inventory slots which can be filled with Items which provide various benefits and abilities. To purchase these items, Gold is gained passively over time, by killing creeps, by killing enemy heroes and by destroying buildings.

Dota 2 has a heavy emphasis on tactics and team co-ordination, and a deep amount of strategy focused on building up strength as fast as possible, optimal itemization, and selecting what order to upgrade your hero’s spells.

Development [ edit ]

IceFrog, the lead developer for the original Defense of the Ancients, was hired by Valve Software in 2009.

The beta began in 2010, officially ending in July 2013 just before The International 2013 when the Windows client was officially released to the public with a queue system to deal with high traffic. The Mac and Linux clients were released a week after the general release of the Windows client. Dota 2 runs on the Source 2 Engine and mimics some of the quirks that were present in the original DotA game in order to preserve gameplay.

Map [ edit ]

The Map is the playing field for all Dota 2 matches. It has two s > Radiant faction, and one for the Dire faction. To win, players must destroy the opposing side’s Ancient, an important building at the center of each team’s base. The map is represented in the interface by the minimap. It is also important to note that the game only contains one map by default, however, custom games can feature new, community created maps.

Heroes [ edit ]

Heroes are each unique characters within Dota 2. At the start of each game, two teams of five are randomly assigned to Radiant and Dire, then sides take turns selecting a Hero from the Hero Pool. Each player controls a single Hero and any units that hero controls, such as summoned units like Eidolons. The selection of these 10 heroes is commonly referred to as that match’s draft.

Heroes will gain experience when enemy units are killed nearby. They start the game at level one, and as they earn experience, they eventually level up, and each level grants more increases to the hero’s attributes and an ability point to spend on upgrading abilities or Talents.

In addition to a hero’s abilities, each hero has a melee or ranged attack which does an amount of damage based on the primary attribute: strength, agility, or intelligence.

Dota 2 has currently implemented 119 heroes. 112 of these heroes were based on heroes from DotA Allstars; and after porting all the DotA heroes, 7 more original heroes have been added.

Items [ edit ]

Items are used to give Heroes additional various abilities, attack modifiers, bonus attributes, as well as secondary stats such as armor, attack speed, or improved regeneration of health or mana. Dota 2 main menu 123 Items are sold at Shops, which can be found at the base, the side-lanes, or the more secluded Secret Shops. More powerful items can be constructed by combining weaker items in fixed combinations which require a specific set of items to be in the inventory together. Items take up space in the Hero’s inventory, courier’s inventory, or stash, all of which have 6 slots for storage and an additional 3 backup space where items are muted and can be switched with the main inventory items with the activation delay of 6 seconds.

Gold and experience [ edit ]

Gold is granted periodically, but is largely accumulated by killing hostile units, such as creeps, towers, or enemy Heroes. Depending on what unit you kill, gold may be rewarded solely to the killer (such as creep bounty), or distributed to the killer’s team (such as towers, barracks, couriers and Roshan).
