DISPELLABLE: Cannot be dispelled

Allows manipulation of fire elements. Each Exort instance provides increased attack damage.

Invoker can only have 3 of any instance.

ABILITY: No Target

Combines the properties of the elements currently being manipulated to create a new spell for Invoker to use. Click the help button to see the list of possible spells.

The arrangement of instances does not matter.

Invoke will not cost mana or go on cooldown if the only effect is to swap the positions of existing spells.

ABILITY: Unit Target

AFFECTS: Enemy Units

DAMAGE TYPE: Magical

PIERCES SPELL IMMUNITY: No

Invoker draws the heat from an enemy, chilling them to their very core for a duration based on the level of Quas . The enemy will take damage and be briefly frozen. Further damage taken in this state will freeze the enemy again, dealing bonus damage. The enemy can only be frozen so often, but the freeze cooldown decreases based on the level of Quas .

The freeze stun only triggers on damage greater than %damage_trigger% after reductions.

ABILITY: No Target

PIERCES SPELL IMMUNITY: No

DISPELLABLE: Cannot be dispelled

Invoker manipulates the ice and electrical energies around him, rendering his body invisible. The elemental imbalance created as a consequence slows nearby enemies based on the level of Quas , and slows Invoker as well based on the level of Wex .

The slow effect does not work on Spell Immune enemies.

ABILITY: Point Target

DAMAGE TYPE: Magical

PIERCES SPELL IMMUNITY: No

Unleashes a fast moving tornado that picks up enemy units in its path, suspending them helplessly in the air shortly before allowing them to plummet to their doom. Travels further based on the level of Wex . Holds enemies in the air for a duration based on the level of Quas . Deals base damage plus added damage based on levels in Wex .

DISPEL TYPE: Basic Dispel

Units are invulnerable while affected by Tornado, and the damage is dealt when landing.

ABILITY: Point Target

DAMAGE TYPE: Magical

PIERCES SPELL IMMUNITY: No

Invoker builds up a charge of electromagnetic energy at a targeted location which automatically detonates after 2.9 seconds. The detonation covers an area, draining mana based on the level of Wex . Deals damage for each point of mana drained. If EMP drains mana from an enemy hero, Invoker gains 50% of the mana drained.

Will not affect cycloned units (Tornado or Eul’s Scepter of Divinity).

ABILITY: Unit Target

AFFECTS: Allied Units

PIERCES SPELL IMMUNITY: Yes

Invoker infuses an ally with an immense surge of energy, increasing their attack speed based on the level of Wex and their damage based on the level of Exort .

ABILITY: Point Target

DAMAGE TYPE: Magical

PIERCES SPELL IMMUNITY: No

Invoker pulls a flaming meteor from space onto the targeted location. Upon landing, the meteor rolls forward, constantly dealing damage based on the level of Exort , and rolling further based on the level of Wex . Units hit by the meteor will also be set on fire for a short time, receiving additional damage based on the level of Exort .

Deals main damage to enemy units under meteor every %damage_interval% seconds and burns enemies for smaller damage over %burn_duration% seconds.

The meteor moves at a speed of %travel_speed%.

Evasion

is mechanic that allows the unit to dodge an incoming attack. When evaded, the attack gets completely nullified. This means, anything that relies on attacks to hit their targets do not trigger, which includes most attack modifiers, and on-hit effects.

A similar mechanic to evasion is blind. While evasion makes a unit evade incoming attacks from other units, blind makes a unit miss upon attacking other units. Just like evasion, when an attack misses to blindness, it gets completely nullified.

Contents

Mechanics [ edit ]

Evasion and blind trigger upon landing an attack, which is on projectile impact for ranged units. If it triggers, the attack does not affect the evading unit at all, so that no on-attack effects are triggered. Upon missing an attack on an enemy, a red floating text appears, reading “miss”, visible to the attacking player only. The enemy, who was just missed by an attack, also sees a floating text, but in white and reading “evade” instead. Furthermore, a missed attack does not play any of the attack impact sounds.

Stacking [ edit ]

Multiple sources of evasion stack multiplicatively with each other, while sources of blind effects stack additively with each other and multiplicatively with evasion. The uphill miss chance stacks multiplicatively with evasion and blind. While the actual chance to evade is diminishing, each source of evasion increases effective HP against physical attacks more than the last due to evasion’s exponential nature. The chances of all sources of evasion and blind are determined by pseudo-random distribution.

Formula Miss chance = 1 – [(1 – evasion from source 1) x (1 – evasion from source n) x (1 – (sum of all sources of blind)) x (1 – uphill miss chance)]
= 1 – [Π n (1 – evasionn) x (1 – Min(sum of all sources of blind, 100%)) x (1 – uphill miss chance)] Hit chance = 1 – [(1 – accuracy from source 1) x (1 – accuracy from source 2)] = 1 – Π n (1 – accuracyn) Final hit chance = 1 – miss chance + (hit chance * miss chance) = 1 – miss chance x (1 – hit chance) Final miss chance = 1 – final hit chance = miss chance x (1 – hit chance)

E. g. for Butterfly the chance to get hit is 65% because Butterfly has 35% evasion. The source of evasion values must be expressed in hundredths (so if we have 50% evasion, the value needs to be 50/100 = 0.50).

As an example, if Phantom Assassin has Level 4 Blur (0.5 chance to get hit) and Butterfly (0.65 chance to get hit), her chance to get hit by attacks is 0.5 * 0.65 = 0.325 or 32.5%. A more concrete way of thinking about evasion stacking is that for an attack to bypass an evasion stack and connect, it should bypass each source of evasion in sequence. Only if all sources of evasion fail, is the attack able to deal damage.

The Art of Warding

Being a support player myself, warding has always been a huge part of my gameplay. Having a good vision around the map or making an important de-ward always gave me huge pleasure. In today’s article, I want to discuss with you the process of warding, common mistakes, timings and much more.

Let’s start with the basics.

Table of contents

Part 1: Early-game warding

Observer Ward costs 50 gold, while Sentry Ward costs 75 gold. The gold required to purchase wards was lowered from patch to patch, and now both Observer and Sentry Wards are easily affordable for players in all positions. However, warding is still associated exclusively with supports.

So, why do you buy wards? Observer Wards can be used to give vision over the area or to block neutral camps from spawning. Sentry Wards can also be used to block camps, but mostly they are used to destroy enemy Observer Wards and reveal invisible heroes or units.

1. How many wards to buy at the beginning of the game? Where to place them?

These questions might seem simple, but many players have troubles with early wards.

a) Ward in the middle lane.

This ward is out of the question, the most important to place at the beginning of the game. Having the ward in the middle lane will help your midlaner to control the lane better. Try to place it as soon as possible to avoid it getting spotted.

Tip: When you play for Radiant, there are several spots behind the trees, which you can use to place wards safely.

b) Ward in the safelane.

This is where many players, especially in low ranks, make a mistake. Having Observer Ward in the safelane is not a requirement. You need to get the ward for the safelane in two cases:

you are going to lane against a hero, who can harm you by using the Fog of War, for example, Pudge(Meat Hook), Mirana(Sacred Arrow), Keeper of the Light(Illuminate) and Techies(Proximity Mines, Suic >

c) Ward in the offlane.

As meta switched heavily to 2/1/2 lanes, it is no longer necessary to give the Observer Ward to your offlaner. Do it either only if it is necessary for him to block the neutral camp, or in case he is going to lane against a tri-lane.

d) Anti-roamer ward.

In case you play against a very powerful roamer, such as Earthshaker or Earth Spirit, it can be very useful to place a ward, which would spot his rotations to the middle lane.

Most of the times getting only one Observer Ward is absolutely fine. Use extra gold to get yourself additional Faerie Fire, Clarity or Enchanted Mango. Having extra consumables can have a huge impact during the laning stage. Make sure to get second Observer Ward if it will be necessary.

It is important to purchase a Sentry Ward if you are going to lane against a hero with invisibility, such as Treant Protector, Sand King, Riki and Bounty Hunter.

2. The first nighttime. A most important part of the game for the warding.

Lack of movement is the biggest issue of supports in low ranks. Lack of movement also equals lack of good vision around the map. The first nighttime is a time when heroes start to rotate around the map actively. This is why it is very important to provide good vision for your teammates, to avoid them getting ganked.

Ideally, you should aim to bring x2 Observer Wards right before the nighttime begins. Good support should be multitasking, so as nighttime starts at 5:00, you should try to take Bounty Runes and then place the first Observer Ward in the nearby cliff near the enemy tier-1 Tower, and then make a rotation to the middle lane to place the second ward there.

The better you get, the more you can adjust your ward positions, so it would be harder for enemy support to de-ward them.

While you place these wards, you should keep in mind that the enemy support wants to have the perfect vision himself as well. This is why it is very important to get yourself several Sentry Wards and check the most common warding spots.

3. Objective wards.

After the laning stage ends, you and your team should start playing around key objectives of the game, such as Towers and Bounty Runes.

To have an easier time sieging towers, it is very effective to place vision behind them.

Radiant:

Keep in mind, as it is very important to provide good vision in all stages of the game, it is especially necessary to do in the early-game. Thanks to perfect vision, your team can gain the advantage and then use it to win the game easily.

It might quite possible be a hybrid (retail purchase + micro transactions). I guess we just have to wait and see.

I now think that Valve should release it as a one time purchase much like WC3 was, while having some micro transactions to buy vanity items such as skins, terrain change (-water random commands etc.).

I really do hope that all the heroes are availible from the first purchase, I do not want to have to earn Lich >.>

I can’t see Dota 2 having restrictions on heroes since Dota’s learning curve is pretty high and there are over 100 heroes. Also the Hyper Carry exists in Dota, which makes veterens capable of roflstomping the newbies

I only played DotA a bit(before I lost one of the WC3 disks) and I’ve been playing LoL a fair bit. Mind explaining to this newbie the differences in role for DotA and whats different between a Hyper-Carry and a regular Carry(and if there are Hyper caster etc.)

How to bind multiple actions to a single key?

However, no matter what I try, I can only ever set one ability toggle to the SPACE key. If anybody could give me some pointers on how to go about binding it to multiple actions I would greatly appreciate it.

As a side issue, I’ve noticed in a few bot games that I will occasionally skip the waiting after hero selection. By which I mean, after I pick my hero, I am immediately taken to my fountain and I can buy items, allocate skill points, move around, etc. Most of the time though, I am forced to sit and wait for the bots to finish their picks before I’m able to do any of those things. Is there a way to always skip the waiting? If not, why does it happen at random intervals?

You can get software that does it but its against the tac of valve (I think blizz also has this rule) and most games for that matter.

Its kinda cheating dont you think? (aggregating several actions into 1 can only be bad for a game)
That would be like having an awp switch script so you can reload and move faster / noscope .

to toggle abilities on and off hold alt and hit their hot key (qwert by default iirc)

For items I use zxcvbg

90% sure that won’t work. Ctrl/shift/alt should be the only modifiers the game notices by default. For items I use 1,2,3,`,mouse button 4 and space. I use f1-4 for camera hotkeys and control groups.
Alt takes a bit of getting used to but if you keep at it you should be fine in no time.

you dont, its called hax

Mr. Tortoise, he’s not saying multiple actions with one keybinding. He’s saying multiple abilities on one key

i have my slots bound to zxcvbn

altho not often i have more than 4 active slots so its not often a problem.

Anyway to do what he wants . ie bind one key that usually uses q to space and another ability that uses w to space youd need hax . just checed and yes, frost arrows and burning whatever are not on the same key by default. Thats why i went down the hax route as youd need to tell soemthing to remap keys that is external to dota

You can actually bind multiple commands to a single key by putting keybinds in your. cfg files.

I’m just not sure what the exact console command is for toggle autocast.

He could just change his key everytime he plays another hero.

And you can change this in the cfg for each hero in the game folder.

In dota you would use warkeys or similar to custom set the hotkeys as you would like. And itemhotkeys, e. g. ctrl a uses item slot 1 etc.

I use QWE(DC)R for skills and TYFGVB for items. At some point I’ll upgrade my mouse and change Y and B to mouse buttons.

I was saying the 3rd party software is hax . not rebinding in game.

In wc3 you couldn’t rebind keys iirc hence the external software. A lot of other games would classify any piece of software that modified memory addresses as hacks.

Then you create a text document and add:

alias autocast_all “dota_ability_autocast 0; dota_ability_autocast 1; dota_ability_autocast 2; dota_ability_autocast 3; dota_ability_autocast 4; dota_ability_autocast 5”

bind “z” autocast_all

Replace “z” right after bind to whatever you want to bind it to. Then after that you need to change the name of the document to autoexec. cfg. You must change the extension of the file from txt to cfg so if you use windows7/vista you must enable changing extensions.

After that you can either type “exec autoexec” into console every time or you can add:

Do auto-cast abilities count as magic or physical damage?

Some heroes such as Clinkz or Outworld Devourer can use auto-cast abilities that add damage to your hero’s auto attack,

My question is: does this extra damage count as physical or magical damage?

For example, Clinkz’s Searing Arrows add 20 bonus damage at level 1. If your hero’s auto attack damage is 50, then are you doing 70 physical damage, or 50 physical damage and 20 magic damage?

Just want to know for the purposes of armour against people like this.

4 Answers 4

It does the damage type stated in the skill, regardless if it is an auto-cast ability or not. In your example, a Bone Fletcher with 50 base damage and Searing Arrows level 1 would do 70 physical damage per hit and an Obsidian Destroyer (Dota 1) with 100 base damage, 1000 mana left and level 4 Arcane Orb would do 100 physical damage and 90 pure damage.

Auto-casting does not change the damage type the ability inflicts. Also, there are some orb effects that have a little bit extra range when manually cast, such as Viper’s.

If you want to find out which damage type a skill does, hover your mouse over the skill and hold Alt. There should be stated in green which damage type it inflicts.

Further to TonySniper’s answer, if the attack is set to Auto-Cast, it will count as a normal right-click type attack, and thus be subject to drawing the aggro from towers and creeps. See http://dota2.gamepedia. Dota 2 autocast ability first pasadena com/Aggro for more details.

If the ability is not in Auto-Cast mode, and you manually cast it, it counts as a spell cast (but the damage type is not changed), this is important because casting spells will not draw creep or tower aggro. Using this mechanic, you could use say Viper or Drow Ranger to chase someone under and past their tower without drawing the aggro, provided you have a creep wave present attacking the tower and taking the tower’s attention. You can also use this to chase past the enemy creep wave while the creeps ignore you.

I think this is the mechanic that you might have been confused with in your question.

By “auto-cast”, i assume you’re referring to orb attacks (WC3 name) – each orb does damage as described on the description. Almost all do bonus magical / pure (and hence don’t contribute to base damage calcs like crit). Another interesting thing is how many different “instances” of damage do they count as – for things like TA’s refraction and tree armor.

So for armor, armor won’t save you from most of these. BKB’s will in almost all cases, especially ones like OD.

Is there any specific orb you want to know about?

Depends upon the ability. It has nothing to do with the auto or manual casting.

From your example, clinkz ‘searing arrows’ adds physical damage. And Outword destroyer’s ‘arcane orb’ is magical damage although pure.

It means it cannot bypass magical immunity but is a unit is not magical immune it deals pure damage. In ‘searing arrows’ case, magical immunity has no effect. Auto-casting and orb-walking have no effect what so ever in regards of the type of damage dealt.

Year In Review: Our Top Stories of 2017

A year of pub tier lists, event coverage, and guides have gone by. We celebrated our five year anniversary of Dotabuff. We endured the post-TI blues until the Dueling Fates update. We’ve written about how to cope with losing streaks, how to improve your warding, and how to stop last picking jungle heroes in pubs. Here are some of our favorite posts of 2017.

Patch 7.00 And The Magic Damage Ember Spirit

2016 ended with the long anticipated patch 7.00, and it was in the new year, as pro events picked up again, that we started seeing the diversity of new builds with the introduction of Talent trees. Ember Spirit’s magic damage variant was a surprising look in how Talents could pivot a heroes strengths.

Does Windranger Need A Buff?

Windranger had a brief spotlight in the meta in 2016, and though Talents might have given her a needed boost, it still wasn’t enough to bring back a fan favorite hero. Not every hero can be in the meta, but it’s been quite awhile for such a popular hero to be underpowered.

Crystal Maiden: The Queen of Pubs

Crystal Maiden is one of the most effective supports in Dota, and even more in pubs since she her aura benefits the team just by existing. We went through the base mechanics of the hero, what to build throughout the game, and how Talents have changed the hero.

Playing On Tilt

How do you recover from a loss streak? It seems that as it happens, we’re powerless to change the inevitable down spiral. Our own team is against us, the opponents are stacked, and we’re left exhausted. Sometimes there isn’t much that can be helped, but there are a few things to consider to manage losing in Dota. How To Not Last Pick A Jungle Hero

Even with Iron Talon removed, pub players are still trying to wedge every hero into jungle roles. The idea is simple: you can’t lose the lane if you’re not in it. The jungle is peaceful and safe (for the most part). You can eat dinner and grab a beer while playing Dota, if your’e in the jungle. But going auto-pilot in the jungle also comes at a cost.

Dealing With Invisibility

This post is a necessary PSA for newcomers to Dota. Dota 2 stories 1001 Even though invisibility is a mechanic that is overwhelming strong in low to mid level pubs, it’s also effective in higher MMR and pro games, where concepts like creating pressure and space on the map come into play.

Dota Concepts For The Casual Viewer

Even watching Dota can be just as overwhelming as playing it. Hundreds of things can happen on the map simultaneously, while casters are riffing off the action like an auctioneer. Here are a few general concepts to get started on parsing the chaos of a Dota game.

Improve Your Warding

There’s more to warding than placing the ones at the start of the game. Warding is its own game within the game, an underground battle between opposing supports trying to outwit the other. We wrote about how to play the clock, hide your movements on the map, and when to exactly ward.

The Importance of Turn Rates

Turn rate is a quirky mechanic to Dota that can be frustrating for gamers of other MOBAs. But some heroes couldn’t exist if this interaction wasn’t part of the game. Melee heroes would be endlessly kited. Earthshaker would be overpowered if he could pull off an instant-180-Fissure. Over time, turn rates have been an essential part of Dota’s game design and maturity.

DirectX: Version 11
HDD: 65GB

Here are tips how to Play DOTA 2

1. Don’t Skip Game Tutorials

For those of you who are new to playing the DOTA 2 game, please don’t skip the first time playing the game. With the tutorial, you will understand the basics of playing DOTA 2. Knowing what kind of skills, what items are like, the rules of play and how to move the hero.

Many of them immediately skip the tutorial because it is considered boring. Apart from being bored, you should know the basics of playing before trying other tips.

2. No Blind MAP

Different from ML or AOV games, DOTA 2 itself has a fairly extensive MAP. Even many dark areas that can be used by the enemy to be ganged. Playing DOTA besides focusing on finding gold and exp, you also have to pay attention to MAP.

Before the game starts you have to know which hero is your friend and which hero is your opponent, your opponent and enemy will be different in the mini map icon. In the default settings, the enemy is the arrow shaped icon, the friend is the cursor shaped icon. You have to be aware when enemies that disappear in minimap, they could be hiding in the forest and get ready to gang up on your hero.

3. Knowing the DOTA Game Role

There is nothing wrong for a newbie to find out what roles are in DOTA 2. If you learn this, you are a smart beginner. There are 5 Main Role viz

Position 1 as a Hard Carry. Hard Carry Hero is a Hero who can lift or key the main victory of a team and will usually use safelane. Hard Carry heroes are usually weak heroes in the Early Game but are fierce in the Late Game. Hard Carry Hero must be smart to take advantage of last hit opportunities to get gold faster.

Popular Hard Carry Heroes such as Phantom Assassin, Ursa, Anti Mage, Dragon Knight.
Position 2 as a Semi Carry / MidLaner. This hero will be in the middle lane and face 1 opponent 1. This hero must be able to master the middle lane and gain Exp as soon as possible. Usually Midlaner heroes take advantage of high skill levels to get hurt damage at the beginning of the game and in the middle of the game. MidLaner heroes are demanded to master reliable last hits and beats.

Popular MidLaner heroes such as Invoker, Storm Spirit, Pudge, Queen of Pain.
Position 3 as Offlaner who functions to survive in the lane alone against 2 enemy heroes. Being able to survive alone is thankful especially being able to farm in the lane. Offlaner heroes don’t usually depend on items but have skills that are useful for staying alive and sick when used against opponents.

Popular MidLaner heroes such as Doom, Dark Seer, Broadmother, Tusk.
Position 4 as Semi Support / Roaming which serves to help team ganking. This hero usually roams the forest map. If you’re not doing forest creep stacking, then hide in a dark map to prepare your opponent ganking.

Popular Semi Support Heroes such as Nature Prophet, Bounty Hunter, Chen.
Position 5 as Hard Support is the position most needed in the team. This role is not good, because you have to buy support items such as Ward, Courier, and clarity and you are prioritized at the very bottom of killing creeps or opposing heroes. You should be able to make Hard Carry comfortable when farming and help it when ganking.

Popular Hard Support heroes such as Rubick, Dazzle, Keeper of Light, Shadow Shaman, Lion.

4. Items that must be taken during early game

When the match starts, you will get not so much initial gold. Use the gold to buy the Town Portal Scroll and the remaining Tango adjusts the items to the role that you are currently using. Town Portal Scroll is very useful when you are in a precarious situation, for example, when you run out of blood and blood is dying, you can return to the Base or when you are stuck in the forest or in an enemy gang, you can use this TP to escape.

While tango is useful for regenerating your HP cellphone. When your hero is hit until it reaches half its blood, you can use the tango to restore your hero’s HP. Use the tango on the tree, your cellphone will automatically recover little by little.

5. Ignore Criticism in the Game

DOTA 2 game is hard, bro, you have to have a mental steel to be able to continue playing DOTA 2. You have to ignore their dirty talk and their insults. Even the slightest mistake you will be insulted, ignore them and focus on playing so your team can win.

6. Use the easy Hero first

Learning to use heroes is important, you are encouraged to use the easy ones first. In Dota 2 alone it has more than 100 heroes and not all of them are designed for beginners. Use easy heroes first if role carry like Phantom Assassin, Sniper, Ursa. Dota 2 tips 6 8675309 If the hero supports use Crystal Maiden, Spirit Breaker, Ogre.

How the Meta Changed Since TI7

Two months ago, Team Liquid and Newbee battled it out for the title of the world champion. The European team emerged victorious in the first 3-0 finals at a Valve event, securing almost $11,000,000 in prizemoney.

A lot of time has passed since, but no major balance patch has come. 7.06f addressed some minor things, but the patch has stayed the same overall. But has the meta stayed the same?

TI Meta

The International 2017 saw mobile initiators at the top of the most picked list, especially roamers. The likes of Earthshaker, Sand King, but also Batrider and Puck were the most picked heroes at TI, most notably because of their initiating capabilities but also because of the flexibility they provide teams during both draft and laning stage.

That said, when we look at the TI meta, it’s important to distuingish between its group stage and the main event/playoffs. The meta is usually more refined in the playoffs, as a tournament’s meta takes time to develop itself. The core of Earthshaker, Nyx Assassin, Sand King and Night Stalker remained at the top, but they were closely followed by Lich and as the 7th most picked hero in the playoffs, Necrophos established himself as a fearsome pick.

The Post TI Meta

The post TI meta continued where the TI meta left off, with Lich and Necrophos rising in popularity. Both have become a pub nightmare for many, Lich especially has stayed rather dominant since, presenting the 5th highest win rate in pubs and being the most banned hero at the recent StarLadder i-League Minor. With the exception of the PGL Minor qualifiers, both heroes have been among the top 5 most contested heroes in the Minor and Major qualifiers of the current season, right next to Night Stalker. The roaming support has fallen in popularity a little bit, though remains especially popular in China, where he originally rose to fame.

There are two other heroes that have made a lot of top 5 appearances as well and that have continued to be top picks at the first Minor of the season.

Venomancer was the most picked hero at the recent StarLadder i-League Invitational Season 3 and has been a top pick ever since TI concluded. The hero provides a lot of flexibility, as he can play virtually any position and is a safe first phase pick, as he doesn’t have many hard counters. Venomancer was so strong going into TI, that Icefrog saw it necessary to nerf him in 7.06e, which did result in a decline in his popularity in pro play for a short while, but he’s definitely back at the top now. Winning 8 out of 12 games at StarLadder, Venomancer proved to be yet another key pick for teams.

Another popular hero in the recent qualifiers was Nature’s Prophet. The hero made a comeback at TI with Liquid and LFY showing the potential of the hero, a lane dominator and hero to secure objectives early on. He’s been popular ever since TI, and while he may not have been as popular at StarLadder as he has been in the qualifiers leading up to it, Furion is a prime pick for potential nerfs in the upcoming balance patch.

Let Oblivion ring with Pugna’s endless victories!

Of all the post-TI trend picks, no hero stands out as much as Pugna does. From a rather insignificant amount of picks at TI (16), to now being the third most picked hero at the Minor (11), Pugna has come a long way since Liquid lifted the Aegis of Champions. The intelligence hero has become a staple for many, a flex pick that can be laned virtually anywhere and that can apply early pressure. Pugna is exceptionally strong throughout the midgame as well, providing sustain for cores or being a big nuisance to enemies.

In pubs, Pugna is picked in almost 12% of all 5k+ MMR games, while maintaining a 51% win rate. Buff after buff, Pugna has slowly crept from total niche pick to a top pick, putting the hero at the center of the current meta. Dota 2 current meta 2013 chevy

New Meta?!

But how different is the current meta from the one at TI? We established that a lot of heroes are still popular as they were before, but the data shows that innovation is still very present.

Chen has been a rather contested pick at the recent Minor (7 picks, 17 bans) and the CIS region has shown to be very fond of Enchantress, while our competitive meta report from September shows that Broodmother has become a very situational pick again. Bloodseeker, while a bit of a niche pick at TI, has become much more situational as well. Mineski’s Iceiceice even established an offlane Winter Wyvern as a viable option.

Then there is Monkey King, who started to be established as a carry at TI and has long since become an established carry. Visage has seen much more mid play lately and the CIS region has made Chaos Knight a very popular hero as well. Bane is slowly gaining in popularity and then there’s Spirit Breaker, who hasn’t gotten a lot of love at TI, but who’s been a top pick in pubs for a while and whose presence in competitive play is also felt these days.

As much as fans may hate to hear it, but the meta continues to change even without a balance patch, though that doesn’t mean the game couldn’t need a fresh coat of paint.
