HEROCLIX MINIATURES GAME TOURNAMENTS IN OCTOBER.

What’s this about?

HeroClix tournaments are a sanctioned series of events that offer players opportunities for competitive play and exclusive figures. Tired of beating your friends? Bring your A-game here and see how you do. First time players at EC always get a figure!

What do you need to play?

For constructed tournaments, you’ll need to supply your team, meeting the requirements that week’s format issued. It’s also recommended that you bring your own maps, so you have the advantage should you win the roll for map choice. However, Dice and Maps are available in limited numbers.

What is ‘Modern Age’?

Modern Age is essentially an restricted format. Any figure can be used from the list in the link below:
http://win. wizk >

What is ‘Golden Age’?

Golden Age is essentially an unrestricted format. Any figure can be used, as far back as Marvel HeroClix: Infinity Challenge (the first set). The only figures that cannot be used are the Purple Ringed promo figures, and other non-comic sets, such as Lord of the Rings, Kick-Ass 2, Mage Knight, Yu-Gi-Oh, and DOTA 2 (unless specified by the format). All Errata is in effect for Golden Age play.

How are the prizes distributed?

For standard Constructed play, we usually issue a prize for 1st place, 2nd place, and Fellowship. Fellowship is a sportsmanship prize, and can be awarded to someone who the judge feels carried themselves in an exemplary fashion in demeanor during the event. Usually, if everyone qualifies for the Fellowship prize, this is awarded via roll-off.

…or stop by during a tournament to see how it’s played!

DOTA 2 Latest News (wrap up)

DOTA 2 Latest News (wrap up)

Hello everyone! A couple of days after The International and we are still trying to get back to every day life but the thrill and anticipation for DOTA 2 are just not helping!

This post will be a short news update on the DOTA 2 news that we had during these past weeks.

So, let’s see that we have!

We saw DOTA 2 gameplay and we loved it!

As you probably now by now, DOTA 2 was shown for the first time during The International and it was thrilling. The game got amazing reviews and people loved it. Some minor negative comments where received for a couple hero models, some visual effects and for the user interface of the game – both of which have been addressed by Valve and as they said they have lots of feedback from the community and they will be making changes on the models and some visual effects. As for the UI they said that it will be reworked as well. The engine, which is the most important thing on the game, was great! The games where smooth, no real bugs or errors and gameplay seemed brilliant!

For anyone that missed it (I have no >The International is over and Na’Vi are the one million dollar prize winners! Congratulations!

You can read up on all the details of the international here, check the replays from the whole tournament here. Finally, you can check up on the statistics of hero picks from the tournament here.

DOTA 2 will not be shipped before 2012.

This is one of the sad news that we got from Gabe but, at the same time he promised that the open BETA will be live until the game is released. What does that mean? Free DOTA 2 until the game’s official release for all. Meh. Delaying the actual release doesn’t sound so bad if we can all play the game! 🙂

Gabe Newell’s Interview on GamesCom

Here are the important stuff you need to know about this interview:

  • Several Valve developers are avid fans of the original DotA!
  • Story driven single-player campaigns are out of the question. Valve intends to focus on the multiplayer aspects.
  • Matchmaking algorithms will match players of similar skill level.
  • Community contributions such as player guides, coaching system and accessibility etc. will be an integral part of the overall gameplay experience.
  • Cosmetic microtransactions are likely going to be implemented.
  • Dota 2 will continue the DotA tradition of getting user feedback and suggestions.
  • Dota 2 will launch in early 2012 at the earliest. Despite that, an invitation-only beta will start some time after gamescom and an open beta will follow after.

Erik Johnson’s Interviews on Gamescom

Here are a few of the important bits, but we’d recommend you watch both interviews:interview 1 and interview 2:

  • Dota 2 will have 105 heroes on release.
  • Every hero in Dota 2 will have individual backstories, with several videos and comics planned to explore and tell the story of the Dota 2 world.
  • You’ll be able to join a game with your friends and fight similarly skilled players with friends. Valve is really trying hard to solve the problem of games with imbalanced skill levels.
  • Bot training maps, tutorials, and coaching are all confirmed.
  • Erik’s favorite hero is Earthshaker!
  • Feedback on the game from the Gamescom attendees are really positive.
  • Beta will eventually go from thousands to hundreds of thousands in order to get more feedback. Player hardware configuration will likely be a criteria in player selection.
  • The game can scale down on low end computers, so no worries tight-budgeted players!

Erik Johnson’s Interview at Dealspwn

In this new interview, Erik Johnson sa >The International yearly which gathers the best players from all around the world. At the same time, on the same matter IceFrog has confirmed that the prizepool will “be at least as big as the current prize pool” when responding to a fan query on playdota forums.

MID OR FEED

Welcome to the Midlane, where you suck and your opponent is amazing. Get used to it. We are gonna sit down here and talk about how to be a better mid-laner, because let’s be honest fellow Mid-laners we have a bad rep. We are seen as arrogant, cocky, unwilling to teamfight, split pushers and solo-yolo killers, Sumail-like. The truth of the matter is that we are not Sumail. So while he can get away with bullying his opponent back to the tier 3, we should never do this. So what is the first lesson learned? You are not that good. This is okay, because everyone else in your game is also not that good. Let’s hold off on the other lessons and get an understanding of what the Mid-lane is. Welcome to our DotA 2 mid lane guide.

Mid-Lane

This is at its basic, the lane in the middle of the map. Mid lane. Strategically this can allow you as a mid-laner to rotate easily to either lane; get help from either of your lanes for ganks; or get ganked by the enemy team just as easily.

Typically, mid lane is a solo match up, you vs some other arrogant DOTA 2 player trying to show off. Is that a $400 Invoker set on the enemy team? GG. Being a solo match up means you can either win big, or lose big. This is a lane where technical skills are needed. If you are good at last hitting and denial, you can have an excellent early game in the mid lane.

Mid also has the advantage of having power runes spawn every two minutes near you, giving you a boost if you can get to the rune before your enemy. These runes can either double your damage, regen your heros mana and health fully or make you invisible so that you can sneak up on an unsuspecting foe. All very useful. However this is just the basics of the mid lane. Win the last hits/denys, get the runes and you win the lane right? Wrong.

Roles

This lane is varied in its approaches. Some players believe that to win the lane, they must take the tower first. This works with some heroes like Death Prophet, Invoker (Wex, Exort), Drow, and Shadow Fiend. Or you can win the lane by bullying the opponent out, creating such a uninviting atmosphere that they leave the lane to you alone, Huskar, Templar Assassin, and Viper just to name a few that fill this role. Finally there is the playstyle where you just try to survive until your hero becomes useful. Typically you see Storm Spirit, Alchemist or Tinker in this role, heroes that once they hit a certain level can start to snowball into crazy train.

Let’s break these roles down.

Achieving Legend in Hearthstone

Push Strat

Here the focus is on taking down the enemy creeps as fast as possible so that your wave can get into the enemy tower where you can focus on hitting that Tier 1 tower. Towers have no regeneration capability, unless there is a Treant in the game, so every spot of damage you put on the tower will stay, and eventually you will take it down. Taking the tower gives your team a gold advantage as well as making it more difficult for the enemy team to rotate around the map.

First objective is to kill the enemy ranged creep. This guy does a good amount of damage standing in the background keeping the lane pushed. If you kill him first, your lane will automatically push towards the enemy tower. Next objective, creep pull. Draw aggression from the enemy creep by right clicking the enemy hero while you are near the creep. This will draw them towards you, stopping them from attacking your creep all the while your creep and you are killing them. This will push you under the tower, allowing you to get some damage in. Be careful though, as you still want to be getting last hits/denys in the lane. Deny’s are extremely important as you can gain an experience advantage over the enemy hero.

Bully

This is a very aggressive play style, big risk and big reward. You can be called a feeder, noob, and lets just say many other unfriendly terms in this play style. Yet if it works, it destroys the enemy, making one of their hero obsolete, and possibly forcing the enemy to rotate to kill you. If you want to see how this is done in a pro setting, watch Sumail, he is the best at it – he’s just a big mid lane bully.

Some key concepts for this style is to generally ignore the creep until they are in perfect last hitting/deny range. Do not draw aggro when going for the enemy hero. Instead click the ground to move towards them until you are in range to attack, of course if you have a orb attack skill like Drow’s frost arrows or Huskar’s burning spear these abilities do not draw aggro when used. Your objective is to deal damage to the enemy hero, make them have a difficult time in lane, all the while you are taking a calculated amount of damage.

For this role you will want to be a courier hog. I have seen a decent Viper player courier out 10 salves in the first 5 minutes of the game, just so that he never leaves and can always be harassing the enemy. It works, but it gets frustrating when you are in another lane wondering where on earth any of your items are. Make the enemy weep.

Stay Alive

This is a pretty boring style of play. Meant for a team composition that will give you the time to get to where you need. You want to stay alive in the lane. Deny’s are key for this style. You want to deny the enemy any advantage you can as they know there is nothing you can do to them in lane. An alchemist bullying anyone before level 6? It should not happen. Tinker can maybe inflict some damage but cannot kill you until level 5. If you are playing as one of these heroes work on your last hits/denys as they are fundamental to giving you some sort of impact once your hero comes online.

Conclusion

All of these play styles aside there are a few rules to remember when Mid, and the takeaway from our DotA 2 mid lane guide:

  1. Don’t be a jerk
  2. You are only as good as the rest of your team unless you are playing down 2 full ranks
  3. Mid is not the most important role, but you can be, learn your place do not force it
  4. Teamwork makes the Dream Work

Bottom line is, keeping track of enemies mana is part of what makes one player skilful in the game and the other palyer not so skillful. So the feature is not needed, especially not in the pro scene.

There isn’t any real reason to not make the information more accessible, is there? I mean, nobody’s complained about LoL doing it.

Edit: Actually, I’m probbably like the 100,00th person to suggest this. And gues what? Nothing’s changed. So I guess the devs have their reasons.

The difference is that in LoL the mana bar is just a resource, while in Dota 2 it’s something you can actually turn against your opponent.

Dota2 – hurr hurr durr

I don’t think you can see how much mana someone has left even by clicking on them, otherwise it would be too easy. Not knowing how much mana someone has, brings in a lot of strategic play. This way you will actually have to keep track of what spells they used and judging by their playstyle infer how much mana they have. It brings in a lot of stratergy, you can try to bluff into making your opponent think you have no mana, and when they attack combo and kill them with your mana. Dota 2 show mana bars dota

Its like how in a gun fight, you gotta keep track of how much ammunition the opponent has spent and whether he has clips left or not. It’s all part of stratergy and makes for a lot of depth in the game.

Did you miss anything from the last week in esports? Swamped with work or school? Still hungover (or sugar-crashed) from the Halloween partying? VPEsports’ Stories from the Week brings you all the biggest headlines you might have missed.

LD is back to the Majors! Will cast MDL Chengdu

Veteran David “LD” Gorman is back to the Dota 2 casting desk and his next step will be the MDL Chengdu Major. The BTS co-founder will go from DOTA Summit 11 straight to the first major of the season, partnering with the likes of Austin “Capitalist” Walsh, Owen “ODPixel” Davies, and Ioannis “Fogged” Loucas.

Dota 2 player base hits lowest point in six years

The post-TI period is always a low point for Dota 2, as there’s no esports to watch and the community is waiting for the next big patch. However, the end of October was particularly bad for Valve’s game, as it hit just over 530,000 peak players. Dota 2’s numbers haven’t been that low in over six years and the drop is quite visible, especially if one goes back to the 1M peak in January 2019, brought on by the popularity of Auto Chess.

Of course, the numbers will jump right back up when the DPC season starts and Dota 2 gets its several new heroes. The question is: just how high?

FaZe Clan win BLAST Copenhagen

After long months of trying to find success with different rosters and different IGLs, FaZe Clan are victorious again. The EU stack claimed BLAST Pro Series Copenhagen this weekend, their third LAN championship this year.

Despite signals that this could finally be the successful team FaZe was meant to be, BLAST remains just a LAN that is regarded somewhat lower due to its format. Still, with wins over Astralis, NaVi and Team Liquid, FaZe should be happy about this one and use it as trampoline into the rest of the season.

100 Thieves acquire Renegades’ CSGO roster

100 Thieves has officially revealed the acquisition of Renegades’ Counter-Strike: Global Offensive roster via transfer. The Australian side will move to Los Angeles, as 100 Thieves are in the process of building a 15,000 square feet esports facility.

The signing comes off of Renegades’ impressive third place at the StarLadder Major, making them one of the teams to watch in 2019 and a great pick for 100 Thieves’ return to CS:GO.

Worlds 2019 grand finals is set

The 2019 League of Legends World Championship has fixed the last two remaining teams into the grand final: G2 Esports and FunPlus Phoenix. This sets up a repeat of the CN vs. EU grand final from last year, when Invictus Gaming swept Fnatic for the title.

FPX punched their ticket in a four-game series against defending champions iG, running a slew of unorthodox mid lane picks and seeing their mid laner and jungler absolutely pop off to carry the series. G2, on the other hand, won a dramatic series against SKT, taking several games while being down in gold and map control.

The final is coming November 10 in Paris, France.

Worlds 2019 breaks records for most viewed game in esports

Apart from deciding the grand finalists, the Worlds 2019 semifinals set the record for the most watched game in the entire esports history (not counting Chinese viewers). SKT vs. G2 peaked at 3.98M concurrent viewers, good 1.7M more than the previous record holder in the Fortnite World Cup.

With the hype being high for the grand finals, Worlds 2019 might just break even more records before it’s over.

BlizzCon crowns its first ever female champion

Chinese Hearthstone player Xiaomeng “VKLiooon” Li hoisted the Hearthstone Grandmasters Global Finals trophy on Saturday and made history. She is the first female pro player to become Hearthstone World Champion in the game’s history — a tremendous achievement of its own. She is also the first player to claim a Global Finals trophy for China, a region that’s always been counted as one of the strongest ones in Hearthstone, but which always tripped over come playoffs time.

Liooon is also the first female champion in the entire BlizzCon history across all the esports titles that have been played on its stage, making her achievement all the more impressive.

All the important announcements from BlizzCon 2019

All the leaks that led up to BlizzCon 2019 turned out to be true. Whether this was a strong BlizzCon for Blizzard, who’ve struggled with terrible PR for the past year, is up for debate, but these are the cold facts in terms of announcements:

  • Diablo IV is coming, and it’s going back to Diablo II’s stylistic roots: grim, dark, bloody combat. But we’ll have to wait for it, a lot. According to Blizzard, it’s not even “Blizzard soon.”
  • Overwatch 2 has also been confirmed with the expected PVE content. OW2 will focus on the story of the world, and will send players on various co-op missions. Through these missions, players will be able to customize their heroes through levels and talents.
  • World of Warcraft: Shadowlands is the next WoW expansion, revealed through an epic cinematic. If you’re wondering what Sylvanas is up to now, it’s apparently breaking down the Lich King crown, opening a portal to a new realm. The game will also introduce a new experience for new/returning players, while squashing the level cup back to 60.

Dota 2 Patch 7.22h Highlights

Well, bless my soul, if it isn’t another Dota 2 patch. This time we’re looking over the 7.22h highlights. Just in case you’re not great with numbers, this is the *counts on fingers* eighth patch iteration in the 7.22 family.

We’ve actually looked back over the old releases from Valve and the highest they’ve gone since the 7.0 launch was ‘e’. Can you beat that, League of Legends?!

Anyway, inter-esports animosity aside, let’s take a look at the 7.22h highlights and see what’s changed this time.

Item and General Changes

The patch changes in 7.22g hit us with a slew of item changes. These mostly included a reduction in armor across the board for a number of key items.

Image courtesy of Valve and The Secret Shop group

Keeping with that theme, Valve has, again, scaled back the armor on several items. In some cases, the same items from 7.22g. This means items like Phase Boots get back-to-back nerfs, going first from 6 to 5 armor, and now 5 to 4.

Another item to receive back-to-back nerfs is Solar Crest. The reduction this time is from 10 armor down to 8. This includes the bonus armor conferred to allies with the Solar Crest active ability.

In addition to the item changes, Valve continues its ongoing mission to make Jungling a thing of the past. After the 5% reduction in neutral creep bounty from 7.22g, we now see a 5% reduction in neutral creep experience.

Kunkka Nerf

Kunkka has long been a terror of the mid lane. With a few decent items, he translates exceptionally well into the mid-game. This is largely thanks to Tidebringer, but not to be discounted is his X Marks the Spot ability. With its former 8-second cooldown it was often the case that Kunkka could cast it multiple times in one fight.

This nerf increases the cooldown at all levels. Perhaps this minor amendment in the patch 7.22h highlights will give heroes a chance to outrun the admiral now? Although we doubt it.

Night Stalker Nerf

We had a bit of fun with the Night Stalker update in the patch 7.22g highlight article. Well, it looks like we may have laughed too soon. The 7.22h highlights are here and Night Stalker feels the wrath of the nerf stick once again.

Night Stalker’s passive, Hunter in the Night sees a decrease in the attack speed provided at all levels. In addition, the effect of Crippling Fear has its duration reduced by one second at every level. Finally, his level 20 and 25 talents have been scaled back, including a reduction in the bonus damage provided at level 20.

Just when we thought the buff to his Void damage would take Night Stalker to the next level too… Poor lad.

Tiny Nerf

In our educated opinion, Tiny is one of the most fun heroes in Dota 2. He has a unique reposition mechanic in Toss and his Tree Grab is really evocative of the Ancient Treants in Warcraft 3, from which the ability shares its mechanics.

Image courtesy of Pinterest user Pocket Full of Grace

With that in mind, we’re always sad when Tiny receives nerfs, and this patch 7.22h highlight is no exception. While the nerfs, in this case, don’t impact the max level abilities, Avalanche and Toss are both affected.

Avalanche takes a damage reduction at the first 3 levels and Toss’ cooldown now starts at 17 seconds at level one and drops progressively to 11 seconds at level four. Previously Tiny was able to Toss every 11 seconds at all levels, so this will hurt players who want to use it multiple times in a single team fight at early levels.

It doesn’t matter though. It’s still not enough to make us stop playing the adorable little rock beastie.

Final Thoughts: Patch 7.22h Highlights

This was a comparatively small patch by previous 7.22 standards, making the patch 7.22h highlights equally brief. There were a few other changes to heroes like Mirana and Windranger, but nothing game-changing. As always, if you’d like to see the full patch notes you can view them on Valve’s website.

Carry heroes with low stat growth [ edit ]

Carry heroes who have naturally low stat growth, but abilities allowing them to quickly farm, will often buy this item after their core items have been obtained. The large amount of HP and mana can keep them alive in the late game, when their natural abilities are no longer strong enough on their own to win fights.

  • Slark has far lower than average stats in the late game due to low stat growth. The bonus health makes it easier to survive lategame fights, while bonus mana is enough to cast his spells constantly. The slow is also effective at keeping an enemy close to collect Essence Shift Stacks from vulnerable heroes.
  • All of Meepo’s clones benefit from the raw stats from Eye of Skadi, and he can farm expensive items exceptionally quickly.
  • Once the enemy team has farmed up items to counter her early game strength, Eye of Skadi allows her to survive late game fights more often.
  • When played as an Agility-based nuker, the mixed stats from Eye of Skadi are very beneficial to Morphling:
    • Higher health pool while on full agility .
    • Increases the damage from Adaptive Strike (Agility) and Ethereal Blade .
    • Morphling’s mana pool is exceptionally small, and Eye of Skadi prov >Illusion heroes [ edit ]

Illusion-based heroes like to purchase this item as a late game luxury, as it makes their illusions far more durable, and they deal damage based purely on the hero’s primary attribute, not any bonus damage their items provide.

    • Normally reliant on the Slow prov >Diffusal Blade , Eye of Skadi offers a strong constant slow for the late game.
    • Makes all of Terrorblade’s illusions stronger, as well as offering an extra slow to allow more attacks from the illusions summoned by Reflection.

Heroes who have a reliable source of Damage reduction will often purchase this item, greatly increasing their durability.

StarLadder – The Chase is On!

Table of Contents

As the dust settles over the latest major in Shanghai, we turn our attention towards Kiev and the StarLadder Invitational’s 5th Season. With TI8 creeping ever closer and none of the current Top 7 in DPC rankings present, this is a rare chance for the attendees to make up for lost ground. Although a Minor lacks the prestige and complete competition of a Major, the action will be no less fierce as all the teams still need to book their tickets to Vancouver.
Tune into the action over the week as 8 teams chase these elusive points and duke it out amongst themselves!

Group A – A Brawl beneath the Moonlight

VGJ. T 2-0 FlyToMoon
OpTic 2-1 Team Kinguin
FlyToMoon 1-2 Team Kinguin
VGJ. T 2-1 OpTic
OpTic 2-1 Team Kinguin

Welcome to Group A and it’s decidedly hard to predict competitors. While the prior results would lead one to assume that VG. J Thunder has the clear edge as, after all, they are still placed 8th in the DPC, their inconsistency makes it difficult. If they can learn from their most recent Top 12 elimination during DAC and show up in good form, Sylar & Co. should advance smoothly. But if their play is jittery again, they might just be in for a rude awakening.

Speaking about inconsistency, we obviously cannot leave out OpTic Gaming in this discussion. With wildly fluctuating results all over the place and still not a single point for TI collected, it is way past time for OpTic to pick up steam or they might just miss the train to Vancouver. Ppd’s squad still has a long way to go before he can unironically say that NA dota is the best.

For Team Kinguin, the past couple of months have seen them cool off bit compared to their explosive start when they first burst onto the scene. While they certainly would have hoped to make their mark during Katowice, it will be much easier in Kiev during Starladder. Without a clear favorite in the group, they might just have the chance to sneak into the playoffs with stable and safe play. This group also offers them the chance to settle the score with FlyToMoon for the loss they suffered in the Bo1-hell of Epicenter’s last chance qualifier in the much preferable Bo3-setting.

And FlyToMoon. Who are they actually? Formed back in February with quite well-known CIS names such as Silent, ALWAYSWANNAFLY, Iceberg, and Nofear, they have rapidly made an impact in the volatile CIS region and qualified not only to this Minor but also for the upcoming Epicenter XL. As Starladder will be their first LAN appearance, it remains to be seen if they can translate their success so far on to interregional competition. It seems unlikely, but in this group full of uncertainties and chaos, nothing is impossible. VGJ and OpTic should make it out of this group, but upsets would not surprise me.

Group B – Fnatic on Top

Vega 2-1 SG
Fnatic 2-0 Na`Vi
Vega 0-2 Fnatic
SG 1-2 Na`Vi
Vega 2-1 Na`Vi

Heading Group B is the runner-up from DAC2018: LGD Gaming or. they would have, if they did not cancel last minute due to fatigue and exhaustion. With the Chinese out of the equation, it falls to Fnatic to lead the group. Missing out on DAC must have especially stung them quite a bit considering how well their SEA brethren had done in Shanghai by snatching 2 of the Top 4 spots and even clinching the long-awaited first SEA Major championship. Envy’s squad will be looking to equal Mineski’s DAC performance here in Kiev in order to close the gap DPC’s Top 8.
Fnatic has also announced that 343 will be playing in place of Pieliedie during the event as a substitute, how this will effect the team remains to be seen.

For the other three members of Group B, Kiev will be a very different challenge. Announced as the last-minute replacement for LGD, Vega Squadron have very large shoes to fill and is expected to struggle. Although their current form is not too bad in the closed environment of the CIS region, success at LAN finals has so far eluded them. It remains to be seen if they are able to translate their qualifier successes on to the big stage, just recently clinching the CIS slot for MDL Changsha over Team Spirit.

The neverending story of Na`Vi has just recently been continued for yet another chapter of roster drama. Dota 2 starladder replays tuscaloosa Although the cryptic announcements turned out to be more smoke than fire in the end, it can be safely assumed that team cohesion is not exactly a strength of the black and yellow right now. Ever since since RodjER left for the greener pastures at Virtus. Pro, the trajectory of Na`Vi has only known a downwards direction. Since it will be one of the few remaining chance to snag points for Vancouver, you can hope that they finally get a hold of themselves and shape up but that hope should be very skittish by now.

Rounding out the group will be will be SG esports. Part of the regular South American trio rotation of Pain Gaming, Infamous and SG to place in the bottom half at tournaments, there is little to assume Starladder will be any different. Unless the freak upset happening on the level of SG vs. Secret, there seem be no surprises in this group with Fnatic comfortably making the Playoffs. The real question of Group B will be who gets to slide into second place for those all-important DPC points. With Vega and Na`Vi being very familiar rivals from the same region, we are guaranteed some fierce matches to decide who gets to represent CIS in the Playoffs.
