Guide to Remove High Ping Spikes from Dota 2

Update : With the focus of keeping the article up to date with the latest issues, we have added a few new points that will help you solve Dota 2 high ping spikes in a better manner.

High ping spikes in Dota 2 are a pain in the butt if you are one of the unlucky gamers facing the trouble. There can be many reasons behind its cause and therefore proper scrutiny of each one of them is important if you are willing and eager to solve it ASAP. So today, we at Kill Ping would be bringing you a step by step go through on how you can solve your Dota 2 ping spikes for good.

Dota 2 Ping Spikes Fix

Disk Defragmentation

While many tell you to perform this operation for better computer performance, they don’t however; enlighten you on how it actually works. Consider the game takes over 30 boxes of space in the hard drive. The way it is installed, your computer puts all the boxes randomly in your hard drive.

With the passage of time, your hard drive is filled with more files/ games/ software whatever there is on your computer. However, with Disk Defragmentation, all the 30 boxes of Dota 2 will be compiled at a particular location making it easy for the computer to perform tasks related to the game. This while does not directly relate to solving ping spikes, however, will help Dota 2 to work run much smoother.

We do believe you are not new to this and will probably know how to perform the task, however, in case you don’t follow the simple steps below;

  1. Open My Computer
  2. Right click on the Drive where Dota 2 is available
  3. Open Properties
  4. Click on the Tools tab and select Defragment Now
  5. Select the Drive and Click the appropriate button

Please note that depending on the size of the drive the process may take 2 to 5 hours to complete. So better if you do this when you go to sleep or have some good options on how you would be spending the next couple of hours.

Deleting Crash Dump Files

Dota 2 Crashes a lot, and ping spikes can be a reason. However, we are not talking about game crashes over here, hopefully, will do in another guide. But, there is something you can do to clean up some space and make room for Dota 2 to run more efficiently. Every time the game crashes, it creates a dump file in the Dota 2 folder. Each file can be more than 40MB in space and can take up a lot of your hard drive. Delete all of the files named having “.mdmp” extension in the following location;

People generally install their games in the default C Drive. We do not advise you to that and in turn, recommend you to install all of your games on drives other than C Drive and leave it only for Windows.

Dealing With Antivirus

Antivirus though are good and help secure your computer from threats and attacks, are, however, also a problem for online gamers. This is because Antivirus keeps on running no matter what you are doing. Even when playing Dota 2 you would have to bear with your Antivirus running in the background. To make sure this does not cause ping spikes in Dota 2, turn of/ disable your Antivirus while playing.

In case you think it’s too risky for you, we recommend you to install Antivirus that has a gaming mode feature. This allows the antivirus to run on the lowest settings making an almost negligible effect on your computer’s performance. The best option we can recommend you is Avast Antivirus.

Graphic Settings

Not everyone has a GTX 980 installed on their computer. If you are one of those money bags then this step is not for you. However, if you are among the thousands of Dota 2 players that play the game on a medium end PC then setting the optimal video settings is a must. The general rule of thumb in this aspect is to always prioritize game performance over game graphics.

Firstly you must use the most appropriate resolution for the game. Dota 2 ping spikes in many cases can be due to your resolution being too high for your computer to handle. Below is a picture for you to set the resolution and rendering of Dota 2. Note that Rendering is set to Fastest which means the removal of all the visuals that do not have an impact on the game.

You can also see that each bar automatically ticks the options shown below. Set the bar according to what you think your computer can handle.

For further details on how you can avo >our lag fix guide for more details and workarounds.

Kill Ping: The Last Resort

The points above were based over issues on the user end, if done right will help you in reducing Dota 2 ping spikes. However, if you have done all the things mentioned above and still having solved the problem then the problem is most probably on the network side. Below is an example of what Ping Spikes actually look like.

As evident from the picture, the sudden rise of response time is what results in ping spikes in Dota 2. This generally happens if there is too much load over the ISP or the route game data is taking towards the game server. Luckily in this regards, Kill Ping can greatly reduce Dota 2 ping spikes and enhance your overall game experience. The way Kill Ping works is a bit difficult to summarize, however, simplifying the mechanism, Kill Ping reroutes the game data through its own dedicated channel from its strategically place servers around the globe.

This way, the game data that generally faces congestion through a normal route is redirected from a much clear and open path. Furthermore, the number of hops that game data takes from a computer to the game server is also reduced. This happens because Kill Ping forces it to take the path that creates the least distance.

Final Words

So in case you are done with trying out all the steps described above and still are having Dota 2 ping spikes than we strongly recommend you to try Kill Ping. Almost all of Kill Ping users who faced Dota 2 ping spikes in the past are now free from the misery and experience a smooth game they could only dream of. Try it out for yourself and see the difference.

Feel free to comment below and let us know what you think of our Dota 2 ping guide. If you are still coming across ping or lag related issues in Dota 2, then let us know the details down below, we will do our best to bring you a personalized fix soon.

Basically is there a way of hiding the pop up that shows you just launched a game to others on your friendlist? In case i need to hide it from a girlfriend or such how do I do this? She uses a mac I’m not sure how it pop ups on mac maybe someone can tell me: Will she only see it if steam’s store / library window is up on her screen or it pops up regardless of what she’s doing (browsing the web etc)?

It’s not that it annoys her so much we can’t be together unless i stop playing but more about her misunderstanding of gaming as a waste of time she might ask me to go do something else when I just want to play dota, I usually spend time with her after or before daily anyways and she wont mind if its work / study / even hobby related (like basketball) but if I’m gaming she thinks okk you have time to do chores with me lol.. Anyway she’s really nice just needs time to understand a gamer’s needs, till then i rather not let her know every time I’m on a game if possible.

My profile is already private but I think there will still be a pop up showing I got on a game right? Is it possible to launch as offline then go online? Will anyone be able to add me as a friend to test this for me thanks in advance.

PS. I know some will ask why she’s added me well she likes certain casual games in very little amounts like dont starve and stardew which I played with her once so yeah.

reade only first phrase, try to go on the steam window, click o ntop right steam, settings, friends

then fix the checkboxs at your will; i think you can only set it for all the users

edit: ok, that’s why the offline mode exists, on the place i mentioned above you can also set to start steam as offline, everybnody will see you as offlien and don’t know yo uare playing, but the playtime should be recorded on your steam profile and the games recorded (dotabuff will show them (but you said you have profile private, so praobably you don’t have dotabuff enabled))
if you want to block just her, you can use the block function, she will see you offlien and your profile as private, but if you don’t have the profile private to others, she could check from a non-logged steam (browser) or ask a friend

Wait so is it possible to just block her every time I wanna play something “serious” like dota? She won’t check from unlogged steam or another friends, she aint chasing me up like a detective lol, its simply when she sees me she will want to do stuff with mer instead and in those cases I cant leave a dota match and she wouldnt understand.

Basically I’m asking specically on dota because I can’t leave mid match to help her and she wouldnt understand why you know, and feel sad that I cant stop a game for her. She’s really nice and understanding with everythign else though which is why I’m sure she will understand games later on but till then I’ll have to use this method.

General DiscussionIs DotA 2 dying?

u started an account to see your stats and posted on a forum for dota 2. so nope

if u’r 1k mmr u will feel that

I dont think that it is dead but my higher mmr friends believe it is dying. I honestly disagree but i’ve recently heard alot of people agreeing.

Dead game for sure, people living patch to patch on meta heroes but fun died in this game a long time ago.

higher mmr friends believe it is dying.

can you please tell me what you see as higher mmr friends.

yeah inhouses should come back other than that the games fine

we also need to keep in mind that unfortunately our opinions as 5k+ players are kinda irrelevant in the great scheme cuz we’re just 0.1% of the playerbase, the fucking 2k normies are the ones who decide if the game is dying or not

No. People are just way too dramatic.

been dead for a long time now

1 million players at the same time, 12 million monthly users
It’s not been higher, so if anything it’s growing.

Just look at statistics instead of asking autisitc people on a dota forum

Can someone party with me guys? I’m just a 2.7 scrub and I really want to get out of that bracket. I’m willing to learn. Thanks

12 million players 2 weeks ago
Gained 200k new players til today

idk m8 but im back on my losing streak for this patch again.

prize pools that shit on any other game’s tournaments.

Hell, LoL’s grand-fancy-worldchampionship prizepool is shat on by smaller majors.

Up to TI4 the game was perfect after that its just been Inbalance after Inbalance
PA spamm followed by Sniper / troll spamm Storm spamm followed by Windrunner spamm followed by Huskar spamm

ratting is a bit back now but was dead up till now since TI4
And teampush aswell

it seems like carry being carrying is back a bit too instead of the of The solo mid carrying everything.

Still its a bit of patches to go to get back to the good old days where you could play varius diffrent styles and still have a 50/50 shot at winning instead of The play carrying solo mid with husk or wr (metashit) or only 5% change to win.

Dead game would be game that has no player base and no tournaments whatsoever, there is no acctual dead. Dota 2 is not even close to dead and new players are always emerging, maybe young players are not used to dead games so they think game is dead even it is not. Getting online, having 100 active friends in all mmr ranges is kinda alive. Maybe problem is on higher levels, or on pro level, but it is understandable, since not many players can achieve that level and join that club, so it seems dead specially when some of them stop playing or leave for other game.

Personally I think it has already reached its peak at TI5 and now slowly declining

If decline is case, we would see dota 3 coming out, not new patches. It might be normal that there is loss in interest between two TI’s. Let’s wait and see what happens when hype kicks in. Game slike Dota 2 that are so much releveant in e-sports and have such huge amount of money involved do not just ‘die’.

^they just introduced dota3 (=dota 2 reborn)

its dieing personally for me. i think a lot of players become frustrated by the weak ranking system and boring meta plays.

i just have to find a game, which can replace dota. Error dota 2 store mb the division, once it comes out in march. looks promising anyways.

But it is still dota2 with new interface. Sorry, didn’t know it counts as new dota game. Rank system has it flaws for sure, game meta changes, some heros from top tier picks go back to mid or low, it is how it is. You can always say good bye to dota and come back whenever you like, start from 0 and find way to enjoy it, but I doubt it will die so easily.

Meta sapm has been present since forever. Nightmares of 6.57 DP and Necro still haunt me. Morph in 6.64. Zombie post rework. etc.

Game was actually dying during reborn beta, and post reborn release due to people being unfamiliar with the main menu, hipsters complaining that the old one was better (when it’s NOT, the old one was super basic, good, but too basic)(arcade mode is amazing) and all the bugs and glitches that came with reborn dropped the population, now numbers are high again.

I don’t get how people can say TI 2 and 3 had more players, uh, it didn’t, I didn’t play back then, but the statistics are there, game has grown ALOT. Prize money for tournaments is higher, MOBAS are STILL ON THE RISE (hence why tons of moba clones are coming out like crazy) PC gaming is on the rise (Dota or counter strike usually being the first games people hear of on Steam) Also, when the International 2011 was happening, Twitch was barely being born, and the game didn’t get nearly as much coverage back then as it does now. (seeing as Twitch is now main stream, and everyone has a Twitch account these days)

Many many casuals play games for the first time cause they thought it looked interesting when watching it on Twitch, Twitch has done ALOT more for gaming than people think.
Game is fine.

Looks 2 me like the game is just growing! Sure some people have given up on the game, but they should be ignored. There’ll always be players passionate about dota, just as there’ll be people who are shall we say less keen on the game. I normally play by myself now, as my friends have started playing less or moved away, but I still have a gr8 time every game! There are some complete dickheads but a lot of gr8 people & there always will be.
Dying or otherwise, it’s a personal choice 2 play the game.

What is the Meme Generator?

It’s a free online image maker that allows you to add custom resizable text to images. It operates in HTML5 canvas, so your images are created instantly on your own device. Most commonly, people use the generator to add text captions to established memes, so technically it’s more of a meme “captioner” than a meme maker. However, you can also upload your own images as templates.

How can I customize my meme?

  • You can move and resize the text boxes by dragging them around. If you’re on a mobile device, you may have to first check “enable drag/drop” in the More Options section.
  • You can customize the font color and outline color just to the right of where you type your text.
  • You can further customize the font and add additional text boxes in the More Options section. Imgflip supports all web fonts and Windows/Mac fonts including bold and italic, if they are installed on your device. Note that Android and other mobile operating systems may support fewer fonts.
  • You can rotate your meme, add scumbag hats, deal-with-it sunglasses, speech bubbles, or other custom images, and draw on your meme using the panel just above the meme preview image.
  • You can create “meme chains” of multiple images stacked vertically by adding new images with the “below current image” setting.

Can I use the generator for more than just memes?

Yes! The Meme Generator is a flexible tool for many purposes. By uploading custom images and using all the customizations, you can design many creative works including posters, banners, advertisements, and other custom graphics.

Why is there an “imgflip. com” watermark on my memes?

The Imgflip watermark helps other people find where the meme was created, so they can make memes too! However, if you’d really like to, you can remove our watermark from all images you create, as well as remove ads and supercharge your image creation abilities, using Imgflip Pro or Imgflip Pro Basic .

Do you have a wacky AI that can write memes for me?

Funny you ask. Why yes, we do. Here you go: imgflip. com/ai-meme (warning, may contain vulgarity)

Free Pro Basic
Access to the biggest meme template database on the interwebz Yes Yes
Ability to remove “imgflip. com” watermark from memes you create No Yes
Disable all advertisements on imgflip. com (yay faster pageloads!) No Yes

Q: Y U NO give us this for free instead.

A: We don’t like bothering people with ads, and we want you to be able to support Imgflip in a way that gives you the best experience. Before we introduced this, there was no way to remove the watermark from memes without paying for the full Imgflip Pro, which is more expensive.

Dota 2 For Beginners: What You Need to Know Before You Play

Even if you’ve never played it before, it’s very likely you’ve heard of Dota 2.

It’s a sequel to Defense of the Ancients, which was a fan-made mod to Warcraft III: Reign of Chaos. That was back in 2003, and in 2009, Valve – the company who owns Steam – bought the rights to the IP. It was four years later in 2013 when Dota 2 was released.

Dota 2 is a MOBA – multiplayer online battle arena – which means that players face off against each other, usually in two teams of five. Each team has their own separate bases, and it’s the goal of the game to take over the opponent’s base in order to destroy a large statue that sits in the middle of it, known as an “Ancient”.

Each of the 10 characters on the battlefield is known as a “Hero”, and each one of them has their own abilities and skills, allowing for different styles of play. It also means that whichever hero you play as, you’ll have a unique and important role to bring to the battlefield.

It’s Been Around For A Long Time – So Where Do You Start?

Dota 2 officially launched on 9th July 2013, which means that it has nearly been around for six years. That’s an extremely long time in video game years – but the game is still going strong, with a loyal fanbase who play it regularly.

Many of its players will have been playing it since the beginning, which is great news for Valve, but not so great if you’re a new player thinking about joining in. Those devoted players have the benefit of knowing the game inside out; the controls, the heroes, the skills, the little tricks of the trade to ensure they’re victorious. Not to mention their heroes are undoubtedly max level with the very best gear. It might seem like you’re fighting a losing battle before you’ve even begun.

Of course, this doesn’t mean that you shouldn’t give Dota 2 a shot; it just means that you might have to work a little harder in the beginning. You’ll have a harder time defeating higher level players until you begin to level up your character – and that can take months or even years depending how often you plan to play. If you plan to take it seriously though, there are Dota 2 boosting services available that can help you boost your heroes and attributes so that you can battle on an even playing field.

It’s Considered a Sport

Dota 2 might just be a game to some, but to others, it is considered a sport. It’s one of the biggest esports titles out there, actually: the annual championship, known as The International, has the biggest prize pool of any other esport event, with last year’s total winnings being an incredible $34 million.

Being played in a team, it’s the perfect game for a popular esport, so it makes sense. As we said above, the goal in Dota 2 is to take over the other team’s Ancient, located in their base. But before a team can storm their enemy’s base, they need to build up enough strength and power. To do that, teams need to defeat other players and NPCs in combat. Once they’re strong enough, it’s time to take over the base, and if the Ancient is successfully destroyed, that team will be declared the winner.

As such, you’ll come across players who take the game very seriously – but not everyone is playing it as a sport. There are plenty of people who enjoy playing it for entertainment, too. But even for fun, Dota 2 is a game to take seriously. That means choosing the best hero for certain situations, spending time learning their skills, and carefully choosing teammates.

It’s Free to Play – So Give it a Go

If you’re interested in finding out more about Dota 2, the easiest way to learn more is to simply play it for yourself. As a free to play game, there’s nothing stopping you.

Even better, its minimum system requirements are very low – it is a six-year old game after all – so you don’t need a fancy gaming PC to run it well. While a basic graphics card is beneficial if you want to enjoy the best graphical detail, you shouldn’t have any problem even running Dota 2 on a bog-standard work laptop.

Most of us learn better when we’re hands-on, so if you’re even a tiny bit intrigued, go download Dota 2 and see if it’s for you.

Dota 2’s latest ranked season is dropping decade-long bans

19th September 2019 / 1:18PM

Dota 2‘s stuck around for a good while now. We’re only a few years off from a decade of Valve’s fantasy murder brawl, with no signs of slowing down. But will Dota 2 be relevant in 10 years? 20? Will I still be doting over my MMR when I’m a haggard old crone, fending off water-raiders with the last good knife while I wait for the underlords at Valve to find me a game? Some unfortunate sods will certainly hope so. A new season comes with another ban wave – and these suspensions are nothing to scoff at.

The next round of serious wizard sports 2 has kicked off, bringing with it a host of new format changes. But some of you nasty buggers out there won’t have to worry about what’s new for a long, long time. Get yourself comfy: it might be a long, long time before your next match.

The Dota 2 subreddit has flooded with users reporting bans lasting a whopping 20 years. More fortunate players have likewise taken ripping the piss out of these troublemakers, with some even cruelly suggesting banned players earn time back from their sentence by playing Artifact. I don’t know what your plans are for the year 2038, but you can probably cross off “playing Dota 2” if you received one of these bans. Assuming we’re not all dead by then.

The first of these ban waves is targeting players with plummeting behaviour scores. These numbers are kept lightly hidden, viewable behind a console command, and track things like commendations, reports, abandoned games and such. If it gets too low, Valve decide you’re too much of a hassle for the community to deal with and give you the boot. Valve are also issuing lengthy bans to players who buy or sell accounts to cheat their way into higher ranks or use exploits to excel through the fantasy murder league.

Unfortunate players booted in this ban wave – and all going forward – will all have their linked phone numbers blacklisted. See, to get into ranked matchmaking these days, you need to put your mobile phone on the line. It’s a little bit more of an inconvenience, raising the bar for re-entry from “make a new account” to “make another account and find another phone, I’m sure your Da has one in the cupboard somewhere”.

For you sparkling examples of good behaviour, there are somewhat less harrowing changes to matchmaking this season. Dota 2 will now try to keep role ranks symmetrical, avoiding situations where – while both teams may have similar ratings – one team’s mid player has a substantially higher rank than their opposing counterpart. You’ll also be able to more easily report players who screw around in role pick, and Valve are looking at ways to crack down harder on smurfing (top players making a new account to roll over newbies).

You can find a full rundown on what’s changed, as well as further details on these hefty suspensions, over on Valve’s Matchmaking Update blog post.

If you click our links to online stores and make a purchase we may receive a few pennies. Find more information here.

IceFrog is the lead developer for both Dota 2 and the original Defense of the Ancients. To date, he has remained pseudonymous, and other than revealing that he was 25 years old in early 2009, characteristics such as his physical description and real name are unknown. IceFrog speaks English and Chinese, which he learned in order to better communicate with Dota’s large fanbase in China. Dota 2 interview icefrog present

Various professional players and casters profess to have met IceFrog in person, but public details about these encounters are scarce out of respect for his privacy. Purge remarked that he had met him before, but was unaware he was IceFrog; 2GD mentioned that IceFrog spoke quickly during their meeting. IceFrog is known to solicit balancing suggestions from professional players prior to a patch, though this is usually done over the internet.

According to his former co-developer Neichus, IceFrog had already had formal programming training by the time he became the curator of Defense of the Ancients.

Contents

Defense of the Ancients [ edit ]

IceFrog officially began his involvement with Defense of the Ancients in 2005, when he was recruited by Guinsoo–the mod’s lead developer at the time–to assist with programming. Later that year, Guinsoo left the project and passed the lead developer position to Neichus, who continued to develop with IceFrog. Neichus’ departure a short time later left IceFrog as the sole designer for the map. Since then, IceFrog has ushered in an era of competitive play by carefully balancing and renovating the game.

It is rumored that at some point, IceFrog approached Blizzard Entertainment about the possibility of developing DotA as a standalone game, but the company was uninterested and asked him to port the mod to their upcoming StarCraft 2 map editor for free instead.

In 2009, a dispute arose between IceFrog and Pendragon, the maintainer of the de facto community hub DotA-Allstars. com. Pendragon, who had recently been hired by League of Legends developer Riot Games, was charged with using the site to promote his company’s upcoming product, while IceFrog was accused of developing the game Heroes of Newerth with S2 Games. DotA-Allstars. com was taken offline (along with all of its contents), and IceFrog and the rest of the community were forced to relocate to the newly-created PlayDotA. com.

Also in 2009, IceFrog was contacted by Valve, who had become interested in Defense of the Ancients and its future. After receiving a tour of their offices, IceFrog was hired and began work on Dota 2.

Abdul Ismail [ edit ]

A persisting rumor is that IceFrog’s real name is “Abdul Ismail”. In late 2010, an anonymous person posted a defamatory article called “The Truth About IceFrog: Behind the Bullshit”, which has been termed “false” (unofficially) and “fake” by Valve representatives. A common theory is that it is pure libel, written by Pendragon after his falling out with IceFrog. One of IceFrog’s posts on PlayDota, which appeared before this incident, implies that IceFrog had no direct involvement with S2 Games.

However, the name supposedly reappeared in the Dota section of Valve’s project management and bugtracking software, and was included in the Free to Play credits. It is unknown if it belongs to IceFrog or simply another Valve employee.

In 2016, The Pres >[2]

In May 2017, a California court was discussing the ownership of Dota and they mentioned the name of IceFrog (Abdul Ismail), so it was confirmed by the California District court. Additionally, they make reference to Icefrog working with and being employed by S2 Games. [3]

Can you measure esports greatness? We have a good idea on how to do that for CS:GO and Dota2 esports.

A few years ago, we introduced the ESL CS:GO World Ranking with the aim to expand our toolkit when it came to measuring the strength of professional Counter-Strike teams. We are now building on what we’ve learned from it to create the ESL Dota 2 World Ranking and bring both into a dedicated platform with an improved user experience.

We know that people will always have their own ideas about the current skill ranking among the best teams in the world, and while we are always striving for the best possible ranking, despite our best efforts to continuously improve it, it will never be THE perfect ranking. And that’s ok.

Our rankings are not meant to be the end-all-be-all esports tier list, quite the opposite. We wanted to add to the conversation, not end it. Other rankings have been widely embraced by the community and do a great job at showing the overall state of their respective games too.

However, as a tournament organizer dating back to the CS 1.6 and Dota Classic days, we feel like we can contribute and improve the discussion with a very transparent and data-driven approach. This is what the ESL World Rankings have to offer:

Tournament performance above all

Our rankings were built to measure teams’ performances at tournaments first and foremost. It is not an ELO-based ranking dependant on the results of specific matchups. In a nutshell, every relevant tournament in the planet that follows a rule set in line with the basic agreed rules of competitive CS:GO and Dota2 and fairplay, regardless of who organizes it, counts towards the ranking.

Each event is then graded based on two criteria:

-Size: Huge (22+ teams), Large (14+ teams), Medium (10+ teams), Small (6+ teams), Tiny (4+ teams). A minimum of top-ranked teams for each category is also determined in our rules.

-Quality Rating: TI, AAA, AA, A, B, C, D. These are determined based on the number and ranks of top 12 teams participating.

The size determines how many points will be up for grabs at the event and their distribution based on placement. The Quality Rating acts as a multiplier, where only AAA events grant full points, with all other categories granting decreasingly less points.

The International (TI) grants an extra 50% on top of the highest category due to its special status within the Dota2 ecosystem.

Head over to the ranking our complete rulebook for the full detailed breakdown of our event grading system and points distribution.

Some practical examples:

-CS:GO: The IEM Katowice CS:GO Major 2019 was graded at “AAA Huge” so winners Astralis took home the maximum number of points possible for a single event: 1150.

-CS:GO: Later in the year, IEM Sydney 2019 was classified as “A Large”, granting winners Team Liquid 600 points. DreamHack Masters Dallas 2019, at “AA Large”, granted 800 points for winners Team Liquid.

-Dota2: The International 2019 was (automatically) classified as “TI” quality and (based on the format) as “Large” size (18 teams, 16 of them Top24), so winners OG took home the maximum number of points possible for a single event: 1500.

-Dota2: Just 4 weeks before that, Dota Summit 10 was classified as “D Small” (6 participants, 5 of which where Top24 but none of them top12) granting winners Alliance 105 points.

Players at the heart of the ranking

In any esport, teams are susceptible to roster shuffles and transfers. This is why even though the overall ranking is based on organizations’ total points at any given moment, it is actually the players who score points at each event.

There are a few exceptions to account for extraordinary circumstances around substitutes lined out in our rules, but normally all five players will split the points earned by their organization at any given event equally: 20% each.

Points also “decay” with the passing of time. For the first six weeks after an event, points keep 100% of their value. After that, they lose 5% of their value every week until reaching 0% after 25 weeks. This means that the ranking should be seen as a measure of form over a (close to) six-month span.

The debate continues

To wrap up, we would like to reinforce that we don’t see this ranking as the ultimate, most accurate way of determining who the best teams on Earth are. We are trying to enrich the debate around the game by giving you, the community, more information to work with.

In the same open spirit that rules the CS:GO and Dota2 scenes, we have gone the extra mile to be objective with our mathematical approach and as transparent as possible in our justifications laid out in the rules. So much so that anyone could calculate this same ranking just with our rules and a spreadsheet at hand.

We’ve been around long enough to know that esports evolve at a breakneck pace and will continue to monitor the scene to ensure our ranking reflects its reality. Your input is also very valuable for us as we balance the ranking, so be sure to let us know through social media and Reddit threads what you think.

Dota 2 community responds to Ceb’s controversy

Professional players and casters agreed that it is unacceptable for eSports athletes to behave this way. In particular, Evil Geniuses player Gustav s4 Magnusson noted that Ceb is a renowned personality in Dota 2, and a simple apology is just not enough.

Many noted that Ceb often crosses the line in public. Meanwhile, RuHub studio commentator Mila “Mila” Aliyeva added that the the incident occurred because the Frenchman was unable to control emotions. She further stated that Ceb one of the kindest personalities in the community. The manager of The Pango, Igor BadPlaya Gorevoy, spoke out a little differently on this point. He agreed that it was difficult to hold back emotions in matchmaking. Yet also suggested that the organizers of EPICENTER Major 2019 should not pay for accommodation and meals for OG players.

Team Spirit player Ilya “Illidan” Pivtsayev compared the situation with Debs with the scandals around Carlo “Kuku” Palad and Ivan “MinD_ContRoL” Borislavova. Jotm dota 2 He said that the player should not be punished for making harsh statements in the game, and also noted that Valve should treat all such precedents equally.

Dota 2 analyst and trainer Yegor JotM Surkov explained why the players have a desire to insult an opponent or teammate in a match, and also told why you shouldn’t do that. He also expressed the opinion that Valve should introduce certain rules, and should not punish anyone before enforcing them.

Solo delivered an ultimatum to Valve

The most interesting statement was made by captain of Virtus. pro Alex Solo Berezin. He said that he would refuse to speak at EPICENTER Major 2019, unless Valve commented on the scandal involving Ceb. The player also expects the company to better control such situations on the Dota 2 professional scene in the future. He also highlighted previous incidents including MinD_ContRoL’s rage on the Russians and Kuku’s getting banned from a competition after racial comments. The captain of VP said that he himself has mistakes and paid the price. So it is only understandable that Valve takes a strong action against Ceb.

In June, 2018, Team Liquid Ivan Ivan MinD_ContRoL Borislav was involved in a controversial situation. He raged out on teammates from Russia and asked in a chat room why Hitler did not kill the Russians. The organization imposed a penalty on the player and obliged him to transfer funds to a charitable foundation.

In November of the same year, the Chinese community accused Carlo Kuku Palad of racism after insulting a Chinese player during a match. As a punishment Valve banned Palad from participating in The Chongqing Major.

We believe that Solo is right and Valve should really act on the matter. Since these incidents are getting quite common and discourage the prosperity of the eSports industry. At the time of this writing Valve is yet to comment on the matter. But in a couple of days we should expect a strong response. Who knows, they might even introduces some ethical rules and regulations for eSports athlete in the future.
