What do the settings mean?

I want to tweak my settings for DOTA2 but some of them are not clear to me. Others – such as “Animate Portrait” – are fairly obvious.

What effects do each of these settings have on the game visually?

1 Answer 1

All of the settings mentioned in your screenshot are not specific to Dota 2, many of them appear in other games and some of them appear in pretty much all games. Starting from the top left;

Anti-aliasing: This question details some of the finer points of what Anti-Aliasing is and how it works, although your screenshot above only has an ‘on / off’ setting so doesn’t specify the level of anti-aliasing that you’re enabling.

Specular bloom: This is the process of making lighting in your scene ‘glow’. Here is a nice article about what specular bloom is, and details the process of applying bloom to imagery.

Water quality: Enables or disables high quality water animation.

Fog: Enables or disables fog within the game

Shadows: Adjusts the shadow quality of all shadows drawn in game.

Animate Portrait: Enables or disables the animation of your hero’s portrait while in game.

Additive Light Pass: Additive Light Pass is the process of performing multiple passes while rendering lighting within a scene. This article details performing multiple passes while rendering lighting within the Doom 3 game engine, rather than specifically for Dota 2.

World Lighting: When set to ‘on’, utilises env_global_light to dynamically add lights and shadows to the game world.

Ambient Occlusion: Ambient occlusion attempts to approximate the way light radiates in real life, especially off what are normally considered non-reflective surfaces. It simulates global ambient lighting, creating the appearance of soft shadows between surfaces. This article on Wikipedia explains Ambient Occlusion in detail.

Here is an example of Ambient Occlusion:

Textures: Changes the quality and resolution of the textures loaded for the game world and objects within it.

Render Quality: Affects the in-game world rendering quality, lower settings may provide smoother framerates by reducing the visual quality of the game.

Ambient Creatures: Enables or disables the ambient creatures within the game (for example birds etc). Ambient creatures cannot be interacted with so have no effect on game play and can be enabled (for more detailed picture quality) or disabled (for higher performance).

Finally, this video shows many of the above settings being switched between ‘high’ and ‘low’, particular points of notice in relation to this question are as follows;

The differences in the Water quality setting can be seen in the stream between 0:25 and 0:32, and the difference between ‘low’ shadows and ‘high’ shadows can be seen between 0:09 and 0:13.

Thank you all, um another question.. is worth to buy Midas to Enigma? i was on minute 4:50 (5) and i decided to buy it so i had good gold all game (i started warding in that minute, anyway there was no gank and middle lane got runes before)

I would have rushed a Blink Dagger.

Thank you all, um another question.. is worth to buy Midas to Enigma? i was on minute 4:50 (5) and i decided to buy it so i had good gold all game (i started warding in that minute, anyway there was no gank and middle lane got runes before)

Enigma’s benefit as a jungler is that, if left unchecked, he’s incredibly efficient and can easily farm up items while gaining levels rapidly. Getting a Midas is sort of like. getting a Midas on Alchemist(Assuming it’s a carry Alchemist who gets Greevil’s Greed); it’s incredibly greedy, and you’re sort of wasting the ability to farm rapidly and push an advantage with items to get that Midas.

Something like a fast Mek, Blink Dagger, etc, would allow your team to push their advantage as a whole and would get you more farm. As an Enigma, you don’t need to farm faster because, while items are great, his impact can be felt much sooner with items than with a Midas, and allows you to push towers, take fights, etc, all which will give you more Gold when used properly than a Midas.

also jug, and any hero with magic immunity

Blademail is only good if your hero has a lot of hp. Otherwise, the above suggestions

huskars passive mutigated mos of the damage.

to the OP, get heavens halberd, disable his auto’s, get some auto attacks in to destroy his ♥♥♥♥, hex works well for this due to passive disable

Thank you all, um another question.. is worth to buy Midas to Enigma? i was on minute 4:50 (5) and i decided to buy it so i had good gold all game (i started warding in that minute, anyway there was no gank and middle lane got runes before)

any midas before 8mins is fine. 9min for supports. remember it’s a high risk high reward item

No, any Midas is not fine. You have to ask yourself if that Gold would be better spent on other items, if the game can drag on long enough for you to get a benefit from that Midas(Or if the enemy can deal crippling damage while you have a useless item), is the benefit of additional levels and farm really a priority, etc. A Midas can be a low risk item in some cases when the enemy doesn’t have much for the early game, or your team can carry you for a while; it’s high risk when people just pick one up for no reason other than “I can get it early.” when they don’t comprehend that you need to draw the game out to get benefit.

On Enigma, an early Mek can easily garner more global Gold for your team than a Midas through winning fights or forcing towers, which snowballs into taking more fights and towers while restricting map control. Getting a Midas means you lose that advantage and are wasting your efficiency to be MORE efficient in an area you don’t need it. You have to look at the options when getting a Midas, and MANY more questions matter than the time you get it, especially depending on the level of pubs you play at.

Top 10 Dota 2 Carry Heroes in 2018

With Valve just recently releasing its Dota 2 Update 7.18, a number of changes made their way into the making. This includes everything from hero/item alternations to a complete change of the game’s Meta. Dota 2 guide huskar midas This means everything we know about the game has changed in some way or the other. so, to better educate our readers of the current Carry heroes of the Meta, we are here with a list of the 10 best Dota 2 Carry Heroes of 2018.

Dota 2 Carry Heroes

The Meta for Dota 2 has changed and we are already seeing some new faces making their mark in the current Meta. Dota 2 guide huskar midas However, with Icefrog’s effort to balance the game, he made various changes that completely nerfed some of the most picked heroes while bringing up some that we weren’t used to in a very long time. So, without taking any more of your time, here are the 10 best Carry Heroes in the year 2018.

1. Ursa

Ursa is one of the most popular choices for the role of Carry in the current Dota 2 Meta. Dota 2 guide huskar midas This is due to the recent love the developers have shown to the agility based hero. This combined with his extremely powerful, yet tanky abilities make him a true beast in the game.

2. Spectre

Spectre has been a hero which was a consistent pick even before patch 7.19. Though, after the update tides favored Spectre even more. Her desolate has been buffed up giving Spectre more ease in farming, as well as her updated Dispersion, has given her enhanced tankability during team fights.

3. Terrorblade

Terrorblade finally got his place back in competitive Dota 2 with the recent patches. Immediately after, we saw teams picking up the split push carry to their advantage. Terrorblade’s farming, mobility build that professional players tend to make on this hero has allowed him to fit in many situations.

4. Anti-Mage

Well, one cannot just ignore Magina from the competitive scene no matter what. Anti Mage has been a life saver for many professional teams who consider this hero their last resort in times of need. No matter the changes to the Meta, you will still see Anti Mage being picked up by professional teams every no own then.

5. Phantom Lancer

The place of both Phantom Lancer and Anti-Mage is relatively the same. Phantom lancer slightly wins during the current Meta because of his farming abilities as well as his input from early game. Though professional players tend to favor the hero more for split pushing it certainly doesn’t mean Phantom lancer isn’t good in team fights.

6. Gyrocopter

Though there were slight nerfs to the hero, Gyrocopter still remains a solid pick in the competitive scene. The AOE damage burst and lock down abilities of Gyrocopter make him a favorable pick in many matches. Plus, his incredible ability to quickly finish off lanes, and heroes make him a true contender in the fight for the best Dota 2 Carry.

7. Ember Spirit

A hero that is favored in both mid and carry role, Ember Spirit’s snowball mechanics are so good that no team wants to let go it to others. Ember Spirit is a greatly contested hero in professional matches who will either be picked or get banned in the drafting stage. Almost every team is good with Ember Spirit on their side and therefore the hero is expected to be heavily contested in the future as well.

8. Alchemist

Ever since the update, Alchemist has been revived from the dead. The new build on Alchemist is working wonders in the professional scene and the hero is getting contested more than ever. VG’s Super is trying to get his hands on the hero whenever possible. Alchemist is definitely going to be one of those heroes you will be seeing at The International 2018.

9. Shadow Fiend

Shadow Fiend is among those heroes that have great potential to come back from gold deficit really really fast. Even if Shadow Fiend does not have a good lane stage with a little bit of support and creep stacks Shadow Fiend can be up and running in no time. Being able to take both mid and carry positions the hero has become a necessity in the current Meta. Dota 2 guide huskar midas

10. Faceless Void

Faceless Void has been one of the most consistent picks in Dota 2. However, this agility based character receiving some serious nerfs in the past, the pro scene Meta kicked him out. Well, with patch 7.19, things are looking good for Faceless as more and more players are looking to add him into their drafts. it is because of this newfound love, we thing Faceless Void is going to wreck havoc in the upcoming The International 2018 tournament.

That is it for now, but stay tuned as we going to be bringing you more guides likes this in the coming days. So while you wait for that too happen, comment below and let us know what you think of the guide above. OG Makes History as Winners of ‘Dota 2’ The International 2019

OG defeats Team Liqu > By Marc Wong

  • 16,140 Hypes
  • 1Comments

OG is now officially the first-ever back-to-back winners of Dota 2’s yearly world championships, The International (TI), taking home a whopping $15.6 million USD, which accounts for 45.5 percent of the total $34.2 million USD TI9 prize pool.

Dota 2 TI, now in its ninth year, is one of the most watched global esports tournaments and, via their developer Valve’s in-game crowdfunding program, awards the largest single-event prize pool for the last seven years. Each year, Valve’s base developer contribution to TI’s prize pool maintains at $1.6 million USD since it started in 2011, making the Dota 2 player base the sole reason for its dominating competition reward — the epitome of a community celebrated game.

Just a few hours ago, OG (consisting ana, Topson, Ceb, JerAx and team captain, N0tail), defeated Team Liquid (consisting Miracle-, w33, MinD_ContRol, GH and team captain KuroKy), 3-1 in a Best of 5 Grand Finals, not only making them the first two-time TI champions, but also the first to hold up the Aegis of the Immortal back-to-back.

The final game saw OG pick Io (ana), Gyrocopter (Topson), Timbersaw (Ceb), Tiny (JerAx) and Abaddon (N0tail), against a Team Liquid draft of Bristleback (Miracle-), Windranger (w33), Omniknight (MinD_ContRol), Earth Spirit (GH) and Chen (KuroKy).

Perhaps the biggest mistake of Team Liquid in game four was not banning Io, which has been dominating this year’s championship with a final win:lose ratio of 12:4 — “you can’t spell champion without IO!” And it didn’t make it any easier that the support-intended hero was played as a carry by OG’s position one, ana. Dota 2 timber saw spotlight movie Additionally, captain N0tail outwitted Team Liquid’s early-game Chen strategy by drafting a position three Timbersaw, played by Ceb, which helped OG drag out the game long enough for ana’s Io to get its items.

In the end, the champion-deciding fountain-diving match lasted only 24.45 minutes, with the obvious MVP, Topson, somewhat ironically playing the position two Gyrocopter — the downfall of Alliance. Topson, a Finnish professional Dota 2 player who only recently entered the Dota 2 competitive scene, made serious headlines last year at TI8 with his versatility and dominance. He excels at unconventional heroes like Zeus and Pugna, and is constantly capable of out-of-the-box strategies like his Diffuser Gyrocopter in said last match of TI9, which heavily handicapped Team Liquid’s Omniknight and Bristleback.

In 2018, OG became the first team to win TI from an open qualifier. This 2019, they dominated from the start, finishing first in their Group Stage, and maintaining 100% Upper Bracket wins at the Main Event. “They are so far ahead of any other team because of the versatility of their playstyle,” said one of the commentators at TI9.

Returning to the winner’s spotlight, an emotional OG Team Captain, N0tail, says: “It’s too hard to believe and it’s too good to be true but it feels good all the same. Thank you everyone for making this possible and I’m an animal apparently!”

TI9 was held on Chinese soil for the first time ever at the Mercedes-Benz Arena in Shanghai, and it was earlier announced that TI10 in 2020 will be held in Stockholm. Click the video below to watch the highlights of the TI9 Grand Finals.

1.2. For violation of any of the clauses of the rules, the Referee reserves the right to issue a warning (verbal or written), a technical defeat, or a ban (the time is set by the Referee) based on the severity of the violation.

1.3. Users repeatedly receiving warnings might be penalized with a technical defeat or a ban for a certain period of time.

1.4. Google Chrome is the recommended browser to participate in the tournaments.

2.3. All participants must select the same hero which is specified on the lobby page.

2.4. All matches are played on a single map. (Best of 1).

2.5. Tournament draw is done randomly by the system.

3.1. The main communication channel for organizing matches is WePlay! Esports Discord where participants must be present during the tournament in order to avoid technical defeat in case of technical system failures.

3.2. You will receive an automatic invitation to the match lobby at the start of the tournament. If a player does not sit in a player slot in the lobby in 10 minutes, the player receives a technical defeat. Players are responsible for internet connection problems, client updates, or other technical difficulties that can stop them from showing up in time.

3.3. If your game lasts longer than 25 minutes, you need to pause and inform a Dota2 Admin on the WePlay! Esports Discord server. Otherwise, you may receive a technical defeat.

3.6. If one player unexpectedly disconnects from the game, the other player must keep the game paused for at least 5 minutes.

3.7. If the opponent pauses the game in order to play a game in another tournament, it is allowed to resume the game with the permission of a Dota 2 Admin. To do that, you need to provide an Admin on WePlay! Esports Discord server with enough evidence to support your claim.

3.8. Before resuming, the player who paused the game must make sure the other player is ready. The game can resume as soon as the opponent announces readiness.

3.9. The player who kills the opponent’s hero twice or destroy their tower is the winner of the game (suicides also count as kills).

3.10. A participant who refuses to play a game again requested by the chief Judge receives a technical defeat and loses any prizes won in the tournament.

  1. Allowed: Creeps, runes, jungle, Bottle, Infused Raindrop, shrines, and using Helm of the Dominator on creeps are all allowed.

5.2. Unpausing your opponent’s pause during the first 3 minutes, unpausing your own pause without notifying your opponent and his/her approval, and not pausing the game when your opponent’s client crashes are all prohibited. If any of these actions happen, the Referee can penalize the player in violation of the rule with a technical defeat. To file a complaint, you need to provide the Referee with screenshots proving your opponent has violated this rule.

5.3. Unsportsmanlike behavior is prohibited. Examples of such acts include but do not limit to sabotaging a match, manipulation of rules, exploitation of bugs, and verbal abuse.. Punishments range from a warning to total disqualification from the tournament.

If there are no claims after the specified time, the result of the match can no longer be changed. It is highly recommended to keep screenshots of all complaints, violations, misbehaviours, and match results until the end of the tournament.

6.2. Technical defeats are issued only after a Judge approves.

6.3. All the above mentioned rules are situational and can be interpreted differently by the Judges for each game in order to make the best decision.

6.4. Any situation not covered in the rules will be handled by the tournament administration.

6.5. Any participant in a disputed or conflict situation is responsible for the accuracy of the information submitted.

Dota 2 [ edit ]

Due to his young age and commitment to his studies, Arteezy had postponed any plans to play Dota 2 professionally. In April of 2013, Arteezy finally committed to a team and joined Kaipi for the summer, along with ComeWithMe. [3] However after just four months Arteezy left the team and went inactive in order to once again focus on his studies. On January 31st, 2014, Arteezy, along with legendary North American Dota players UNiVeRsE and Fear, as well as former HoN players ppd and zai created S A D B O Y S, which had immediate success. The team won sixteen out of their first eighteen matches, including winning the Electronic Sports Prime/Shock Therapy Cup while going undefeated. On February 21st, 2014, Arteezy and company were announced to be the new Evil Geniuses Dota 2 squad. [6] This would mark the first time that Arteezy would fully commit to a team for the long term. On March 7th 2014 the new EG made their LAN debut at the Monster Energy Invitational, where they won 3-2 against Cloud9 in the finals. Despite this consistency they were unable to achieve many tournament wins with their only success coming at The Summit 4. This win also meant that Arteezy became the first 3 time Summit champion as he had won the first and third iterations of the tournament with EG and Team Secret respectively. Following the Dotapit Season 4 event, where EG lost 3-0 in the grand finals, it was announced that Arteezy had once again left EG to join Team Secret bringing UNiVeRsE with him. Arteezy returned to playing the mid role for Secret which he had not played regularly since his first stint in EG.

After poor results in The International 2016, he later departed Team Secret. On September 15th, 2016, Arteezy returned to Evil Geniuses as the carry role, he was once positioned. [11]

The five best couriers to show off your individuality*

Valve have added so many hats, wards and more to the game over the years it’s all a bit overwhelming With so many particle effects in the game, how is your hero supposed to get noticed? If you really want to stand out in today’s Dota 2 world, a rare courier might be just the ticket.

*willingness to throw money at virtual critters

Strongback the Swift (or other TI donkeys)

Strongback is just the latest in a long and proud line of donkey couriers released by Valve at every TI since The International 2012. The first three shared a theme. They were based on Valve’s Shitty Wizard in-joke referenced in the Valve handbook, page 56. Dolfrat and Roshinante came first, a simple Shitty Wizard riding a basic donkey courier.

Garran Drywiz and Garactacus came next for TI3, featuring a unicorn donkey with rainbow tail and a recoloured wizard. The final variation was Hwytty & Shyzzyrd for TI4, where this time the donkey wore the wizard hat.

Valve changed things up for the next two years, releasing robo-donkey Staglift at TI5 and baby donkey trio Patch, Stash and Hobb for TI6. Strongback is the most glamourous of them all thanks to his many sparkly particles and adorable Crystal Maiden and Omniknight riders based on the TI7 opening skit with SirActionSlacks and Kaci.

All of the TI donkey couriers are available on the Steam Community Market, with prices in the 4-20€ range.

Hakobi and Teneko

If you just want to have the cutest possible courier available, look no further than Shiba Inu and Cat buddies Hakobi and Tenneko. The pair were the extremely rare drop from the TI6 Collector’s Cache treasure, which could only be purchased by Compendium owners.

According to the Dota 2 Wiki, their names are Japanese in origin. Hakobi means carrying, while Tenneko means “heavenly cat”. This is in reference to the fact that the courier’s flying form which eatures Tenneko as an angel with wings and a halo carrying Hakobi.

Due to this being the literal cutest courier in the game, the cheapest one available on the community market right now is 28€.

Faceless Rex

The release of this courier caused quite a commotion because it’s just so awesome. Using it in a game pretty much guarantees awe and/or compliments from members of either team. The courier was created by MaxOfS2D (winner of the past three TI Short Film Contests), Yuri and DrySocket. The design was based on a joke blog post by Valve when Faceless Void got his remodel. Valve included several wacky alternate Void redesigns, including one where the hero was essentially the same, but a T-Rex.

The courier managed to capture the spirit of Valve’s design beautifully, even adding a Chronosphere effect for the flying version of the courier, allowing Faceless Rex to gracefully float through the skies in his permanent purple bubble.

Community market prices for this little guy were very high for a long time after his release in the TI5 Collector’s Cache, but they’ve since mellowed a bit. The lowest price for a Faceless Rex on the market today is a comparably affordable 11€.

Baby Roshan

Various styles of the Baby Roshan courier have been released over the years, but by far the most expensive one is the Platinum Baby Roshan, rewarded only to players who reached the “Hall of Fame” for Diretide 2013’s Sugar Rush mode. This one’s reserved only for those with the deepest pockets, as the cheapest one available at the moment is listed for a whopping 1200€.

The ice and lava Roshans were Perfect World exclusives, available to players participating in a tournament they held in 2014. They were also available as digital unlocks bundled with a Roshan Statue sold in the Chinese Dota 2 merchandise shop.

If you want a Baby Roshan of your own, you could also opt for the basic model, which goes for between 2-3€. Much more reasonable.

Golden Hyeonmu

Few even know this courier exists. It screams exclusivity and I can’t remember a time I’ve ever even seen it used. It was only available to people who played Dota 2 using a Nexon account in PC Bangs in South Korea. Courier dota 2 38k bra Additional styles were unlocked by playing longer, and the Upgrade Style 17, or Golden Hyeonmu is the final upgrade.

Basic Hyeonmus can be purchased for around 3€ but the many upgrade styles will run you anywhere from a few cents to 30€. Note that you can’t just buy a style without also owning the base courier, since the style items are unlocks, not the courier itself. The non-gold styles are all pretty cute too, so even if you don’t want to splurge you can get one for the price of a treasure or two.

Also, you don’t need to unlock every style in order to unlock the final gold style. As long as you have the unlock item for the style you want, you can apply it to a basic Hyeonmu (yes, I bought one to test this).
