Introduction

Ursa is my most favorite hero in Dota 2 because it was most powerful hero in Dota all the time. I write this guide to share my experiences of playing him. You cannot kill him 1 vs 1 . Every time you use Ursa and play with it carefully with right item build , you can kill up to 10 kill and dead less than 5. I will post a screenshot and replay soon.

Pro and Con

Pros
[+] Early Roshan killer!
[+] Easy to play with him.
[+] High STR
[+] High Armor
[+] Can take on 5 heroes at once with the right items
[+] Quick hero killer with Fury Swipes

Cons
[-] Can be item dependent
[-] Even with 310 MS, still pretty slow for chasing
[-] The main target for ganks and clashes
[-] Can be counter by Blade Mail or Disabler
[-] Slow attack without Overpower

Skill

Ursa slams the earth, causing a powerful shock to damage and slow all enemy units in a nearby area. Ursa dota 2 hero build guide
Area: 365
Damage: 90 / 140 / 190 / 240
Slow: 25% / 35% / 45% / 55%
Duration: 4

Mana Cost: 75 Cooldown Time: 7

Ursa’s claws dig deeper wounds in the enemy, causing consecutive attacks to deal more damage. The additional damage is reset at 6 attacks.
Bonus damage per attack: 10 / 15 / 20 / 25
Duration: 6

Using his skill in combat, Ursa gains increased attack speed for a number of subsequent attacks.
Area: 365
Effect: 400% Attack speed
Duration: 15
Number of attacks: 3 / 4 / 5 / 6

Mana Cost: 45 / 55 / 65 / 75 Cooldown Time: 10

Ursa goes into a frenzy, gaining a percentage of his current health as bonus damage.
Percent of current life added to damage: 4% / 5% / 6%
Duration: 15

Cooldown Time: 25

Situational

1. Black King Bar : When there too much Disabler or spell chaster like Stun or Nuke damage spell.

2. Blade Mail : If they have Carry which deal alot damage like Huskar .

3. Skull Basher : If they have Carry you can kill them easy with Skull Basher .

4. Manta Style : If they have Orb effect hero like Anti-Mage you will able to kill him without lose too much mana. Ursa dota 2 hero build guide

5. Sange and Yasha : Give you extra ms, Strength and Agility and slow they ms and as by 30% for 4 sec.

Boot Question and other question.

Boots of Travel : Not good boot for Ursa. Ursa dota 2 hero build guide

Power Treads : This is a good pick. Gave you extra AS and STR

Phase Boots : Best pick use for chasing. Increasing movement speed and you can pass through creep.

Arcane Boots : Don’t buy this , Ursa doesn’t even have mana problems.

Advanced Equipments Pick 1 only Not Recommended buy 2.

Shadow Blade :Give extra damage and IAS, Wind walk give 20% movement speed(456 movement speed with Phase Boots) for 9 seconds, and 125 bonus damage to break invisibility. So that Ursa can cut in invisible, deal more damage and chase easily. Also it’s for escaping.

Blink Dagger :You can blink to cut in and be near to the enemy hero, also for chasing and escaping.

How to play with Ursa Warrior for Newbie

In Early Game, Ursa should farm for item such as Vladmir Offering, Phase Boots / Power Treads , Vanguard. After you have Vladmir Offering, Phase Boots/Power Tread, Vanguard you should go kill roshan and Ancient to lvup faster.

In M > Overpower and Enrage can instantly kill some Intelligence and Agility heroes, even some Strength. The best way to kill you need a partner who have disable or slow ability to gank the enemy. Before you use Shadow Blade or Blink Dagger to cut in, you should use Overpower in advance, because Overpower has a 0.5s casting animation, and will decrease the duration between your cut-in attack and your next Overpower . If you are in Shadow Blade , don’t forget to give the target a hit to deal the bonus damage then use Earthshock to slow the target and kill him.

In Late Game, team battle is the main part, so if you have Aegis of the Immortal that can make revived after dead , it can make you gank alot.

1.Level 4 Overpower Prov > Overpower has a cooldown of 10s, a Duration of 15s. So we can cast Overpower in advance, when the cooldown time nearly ends, cut into battle. After the 6 attack have passed, cast Overpower again. Now your Ursa will have extra 6 attacks in limited attack speed.

2.Roshan Farming: When the time of the game is 8

15 minute, Ursa’s level is 7-10, you have made , you can do your first Roshan Farming. You should pay attention to the disappearing enemy heroes from the lane, and have some wards to observe if possible. With some teammates(Such as Lone Druid or Enchantress ) together, Ursa can farm Roshan on even low level.
Don’t forget to give Roshan two combo of Overpower attacks first.

3.Several Attentions:
· Overpower should cast before Blink Dagger and Shadow Blade .
· Overpower should cast after Black King Bar

4.Farm with Enrage
· Enrage can use to farm because of short cool down and no need mana to use it.

I have been playing dragon knight for the past couple of days and I am finding him to be a low average carry at best. He has no real dps that compares with other carries coupled with very slow mooving speed while not in dragon form. He has one stun and it doesnt really help him kill anyone 1v1 since his Q barely does enough dmg for me to finish him off.
Maybe he is not mean to solo at all but I find him to just be a support dps instead of a carry which really sucks due to his awesome transformation.

The dragon form is strong but not enough imo to really make him an effective carry, maybe I am playing him wrong and wont mind suggestions.

He’s a powerful carry. He’s naturally very tanky and his autoattack buffs from dragon form are great. He’s easily outcarried by quite a few others.

Don’t forget Dragon knight isn’t really the dps kinda carry like Void or so. He just gets incredibly tanky lategame.

top pick in the eastern pro scene

Thanks for the positive input Super mega and Valzeras, I agree that he is a support dps and can be easily outcarried, that’s a shame. That means I will rarely if ever see my dragon knight carry pub games unlike sniper, riki, ursa etc.
He is very tanky but it does not compensate in my opinion. I would rather play Axe and Brewmaster for these roles which I will for certain gain more kills and have a stronger game at all levels.

DK is a very balanced hero who can fit into many roles, but because of the same reason there will always be heroes which are more suited for any particular role. This guy is in a good shape during every stage of game.

Q – I wouldn’t call 300 magic damage something that “barely is enough” and it’s an aoe spell, there are not many better non-ultimate abilities similar to this;
W – 3.25 seconds stun with a 9 seconds cooldown which becomes ranged while in dragon form, nothing more to add here – you will disable enemies for an eternity;
E – gives him very nice bonus to survivability during every stage of game (regen for early game, armor for the rest);
R – that’s the main reason why he can be considered as carry – thanks to splash damage he will usually affect more than one enemy during teamfght, on the third level there also comes movement and attack slow;

Items for DK should be also pretty straight forward – you stack on even more +armor, add to it +str and +attack speed (carry version) and you are going to melt down enemy team without a problem. He may not be the best 1 vs 1 hero, but a huge contribution to a team fight for sure. And Dota is a team game after all.

I have heard he is mostly an Anti-carry.

I think his stun goes through bkb too.

Edit:
I checked and his stun doesn’t go through bkb.

♥♥♥♥ the DOTA 2 community. Yes, Dragon Tail is a good stun. However, it scales ♥♥♥♥ing terribly. It should not start at 2.5 and go up by .25 ( also damage, 25 damage? Svens is RANGED and does way more than that. Also a 2 second stun.). There’s literally no point in upgrading the skill past 1 until everything else is full level. His dragon form is good and all, but he’s still slow as ♥♥♥♥. When I imagine a dragon soaring through the sky, it shouldn’t be as slow as Sky Fortress.

Dragon Knight doesn’t suck, but you guys know he needs at least some type of buff. So stop denying it just to be an ♥♥♥.

Fire Breath is one of the best AoE nukes in the game, it deals high damage with a low cooldown and even reduces damage. Dragon Tail is the longest garuanteed non-untimate stun in the game, so yes, It has lower damage. His passive is ridiculously good, it makes him super tanky, especially early on, he practically impossible to kill with physical daamge due to his Q and E, and his ult is admittedly pretty ♥♥♥♥♥♥ at level 1, but becomes the only ranged cleave in the game and a free Skadi. Dragon Knight is a great hero, some people play him wrong. You are likely one of these, angry you didn’t stomp with DK, and now belive he needs a buff. He really doesn’t.

So stop denying it just to be an ♥♥♥.

dk is one of my fav char and i want to say that u play wrong only. even wiki wont deny that dk is a hard carry which turning him into one of the most dangerous beasts in late game, capable of eliminating multiple enemies at once. :3

[Confirmed] Tower aggro in dota 2 different when issuing attack on heroes

In dota 2 when you issue attack on an enemy hero the tower will aggro you and you can take the aggro off by issuing attack on a creep or an allied hero, however this won’t work in dota 1, because when u start attacking an enemy hero or if u issue attack on an allied hero the tower won’t stop hitting you unless someone else issues attack on a hero or you die.
Also issuing attack on an allied hero is the same as attacking an enemy hero in dota 1. Creeps and towers will aggro you.

try same thing when brood and veno would belong to different players.

or maybe im doing something wrong?

The OP somehow did not understand how the system works.
You can NEVER get the aggro off by attacking a target. You can force the tower to reevaluate the target system by switching targets. This happens also when attacking an own creep. If you’re then the nearest target (or the rest of the priority), you’re still hit. Something is wrong in his video at the start. A-moves WORK in Dota 1.

Make sure to read the Forum Rules as well as the stickied Threads of the Forum Section you are posting in.

May I ask why? OPs video feels strange. I’m pretty sure I’ve always done so in Dota 1 and lunatics video shows that it works.

try same thing when brood and veno would belong to different players.

the owner doesn’t matter but what you did made the tower switch targets which i thought you couldn’t do. When I did exactly what you did the aggro switched, but when I did it again the tower stopped switching. Try issuing an attack on an enemy hero while in tower range, that’s a better way to do it.

Yes his video shows that you can do it , but that’s just a simple aggro when you’re attacking the tower, not a hero aggro. When you attack a hero while in tower range the tower won’t stop hitting you until someone else attacks a hero (like the ward) whereas in dota 2 you can just issue attack on a creep or an allied hero and the tower switches its target.
I’ve another video in just a sec with an enemy hero in it, that one should be better.

Seems reasonable to my experience.
I have noticed that some orbs actually agro inside the towers range. That may need to be checked.

You are the one who did not understand what he was trying to say.
In DotA 1 you can change the tower’s aggro when:
1)You attack the tower and you’re the closest target to the tower, by attacking a creep you will alter it’s target.
2)When you’re the only one in range of the tower and then creep waves comes in (creeps must come to a closer range of the tower than yours) and you attack a creep to alter it’s target.
3)You get out of range
While in DotA 2 you can change the tower’s aggro when:
1) + 2) + 3) (from the above)
4)When you attack an enemy hero and the tower starts hitting you by attacking a creep that is close to the tower range than you, you will be to shift it’s target.

You can try doing No.4 all day long in DotA 1 you will never be able to change the Towers aggro unless you go out of range, die, get cycloned, phase shifted (if puck) disrupted etc.

You can make tower re-evaluate it’s target only if you didn’t gain the aggro by issuing an attack order on an allied or enemy hero.

In Dota1 enemy tower giving you aggro because you attack your own hero seems more like an engine limitation or a bug and not an intended mechanic (doesn’t make sense that tower aggros you when you attack your own ally), either way I think it’s better the way it is in dota2 because it encourages more aggressive play.

Lina, the Slayer, is a ranged Intelligence hero, adept at destroying enemy heroes quickly by delivering massive bursts of magical damage, making her one of the most effective gankers in the game. She possesses immense damaging capabilities all throughout the game, but is very fragile. Two of her fiery spells are her main source of damage, Dragon Slave sends a wave of fire to burn enemies in her path while Light Strike Array stuns them with a concentrated pillar of solar flame. Each of her spells deals great damage early on and has a low cooldown. Her Fiery Soul bolsters her attack and movement speed every time she casts a spell, which gives her scaling damage for the later game. Laguna Blade, her ultimate, is her ace in the hole. Lina fires off a huge bolt of lightning at a single target, dealing colossal damage. Laguna Blade’s damage is staggering in early-mid game, and late game is still enough to destroy frail enemy heroes. Dragon Slave, Light Strike Array, and Laguna Blade are incredible flaming nukes that can incinerate her target instantly, and Fiery Soul allows her to transition into a strong and fast physical attacker. Though her power falls from its peak late game, mana-boosting and damage-increasing items can be purchased to keep herself up.

Abilities [ edit ]

  • Dragon Slave travels at a speed of 1200, taking 0.9 ( 0.98) seconds to travel the full distance.
  • Can hit units up to 1275 ( 1375) range away (travel distance + end radius).
  • The complete area is shaped like a cone.
  • Light Strike Array destroys trees within the affected radius.
  • Light Strike Array first applies the debuff, then the damage.
  • The visual effects and the sound during the 0.5 second effect delay are only visible and audible to allies.
  • Lina has two different animations for this spell, leading to two possible cast backswing durations.
  • Using items does not trigger Fiery Soul.
  • Each spell cast refreshes the duration of the whole stack, making it theoretically possible to permanently have max stacks on.
  • At 2 stacks the buff grants 10%/12%/14%/16% ( 14%/16%/18%/20%) movement speed and 80/110/140/170 ( 140/170/200/230) attack speed.
  • At 3 stacks the buff grants 15%/18%/21%/24% ( 21%/24%/27%/30%) movement speed and 120/165/210/255 ( 210/255/300/345) attack speed.
  • Places a debuff on the target, which applies the damage upon expiring. The debuff lasts 0.25 seconds.
    • This means the spell can be avoided by being invulnerable or hidden (or spell immune when not upgraded) as the debuff expires.

  • Shadow Blade can be useful for a carry Lina, as it helps her to cast Light Strike Array while invisible, and also prov >Scythe of Vyse gives her team an important disable that also helps to ensure she lands Light Strike Array. Furthermore, its attribute bonuses will make her a bit more survivable and drastically improve her mana regeneration.
  • Crystalys prov >Daedalus or Bloodthorn depending on your preference.
  • Black King Bar is sometimes picked up when Lina is carrying, especially against teams with many disables.
  • Shiva’s Guard both helps with Lina’s mana regeneration problems as well as her low armor value while also benefiting her team with Shiva’s Guard’s aura and active ability.
  • Rod of Atos prov >Octarine Core ‘s lifesteal gives more survival potential in teamfights. Also, it gives a huge intelligence boost, as well as a greater ability to spam spells.
  • Ethereal Blade is a decent luxury item if the farm is available. It allows Lina to amplify her magical nukes, and slows enemies to help her land them. Using the active on herself is also a good escape mechanism against late game carries.

The Best Dota 2 YouTube Channels

Can’t get enough Dota? Feeling empty now that The International has ended? New player looking to immerse yourself in the greatest MOBA ever created? Don’t worry, there are lots of great Dota 2 channels on YouTube to keep you busy.

Dota Watafak

As the name implies, the majority of this channel’s content is “WTF” videos from both pub and pro games.

Gotta love the music choices.

Slahser [aka Slasher]

Slahser is a high-level player known for his “unconventional” builds and gameplay. His YouTube page is full of quirky strats that may or may not be intended to be taken seriously.

“Hi, 4k player here who reported slahser. Slahser was our position 1 faceless void. He built a mek and had around 29 healing salves in his inventory. He would chrono both teams in the middle of a fight, salve his allies, pop mek, and proceeded to yell “SLAHSER’S WAY”. We gave him position 1 farm so he could be a position 5. Granted, his unorthodox build worked and carried us to victory but I still felt it deserved a report.”

You’ve probably encountered the “Slahser’s Way Void” copypasta (above). Here’s what it actually looks like in action.

Please don’t try this at home.

Love him or hate him, his YouTube channel is some of the most popular Dota content on the internet. While Slacks is often panned for making “low-intelligence content,” his dedication to the scene is commendable. He went from a content producer to invited talent at TI in just a few years.

His “down lows” are a great introduction to teams. His channel is also filled with ridiculous content like this infomercial for the TI5 secret shop. I mean, the guy started out making funny voices on stream and now does interviews and hosting at Valve events. You gotta respect that.

Leafeator

Best known for being the mod of /r/dota2, Leafeator is also notorious for publishing some unconventional strats on YouTube, much to the detriment of everyone’s pub games.

NoobfromUA was the center of quite a bit of controversy about two years ago, when several other Dota figures, including Arteezy and SUNSfan, called him out for profiting off other people’s content – namely other streamers and tournament streams. In typical internet fashion, everyone’s jimmes were rustled and pitchforks were sharpened. I’m not sure where “we” stand on Noob today, but his highlight videos are some of the most well-edited ones available. I’ll leave the ethical pondering up to you.

He also gets the highlight videos up very quickly, which busy Dota fans like me appreciate as a way to keep up on matches while we go about daily life.

Purge

No list of Dota content creators would be complete without Purge. Purge is the ultimate teacher of Dota. Dota 2 youtube stream movies He also comes across as a genuinely nice and likable person, and his channel is definitely worth watching. He did a series of videos earlier this year teaching Day[9] how to play Dota, presumably in preparation for Day[9]’s gig hosting The International.

Purge also does great “Weatherman” segments at The International, where he uses a big touchscreen to explain various aspects of the game in a friendly and understandable way. What can’t that guy do?

The new heroes started their journey pretty underpowered, not even reaching 45% win rate in their opening days. Players getting acquainted with their skill set and some balance changes have finally made heroes playable in high level pubs and also made it possible to start discussing them, since it is unlikely they will be receiving anything but some minor number tweaks in the nearest future.

The Reach beta has concluded and the team is now working hard towards the Season 1 launch. Here we share some of the details on the upcoming Season, and what players can expect when they log in to play.

The new patch is wild, with all the positive and maybe some negative connotations this word implies. As such, we are trying to be extremely cautious when discussing it so that we don’t unnecessarily invoke some misguided disenchantment from the community.

62 new items are available for finding, not purchasing. You can now build your inventory through jungling and not spending your gold. Is this good? Bad? Who knows, it’s too early to tell.

The Reach Beta has been a valuable month for us at Elo. The feedback from our community has allowed us to make considerable progress in refining the key automated systems of the platform and we couldn’t possibly be more excited to see people begin to play in Season One.

This is going to be less of a stats recap and more of a farewell to a patch, which overstayed its welcome for at least a couple of months. Instead of going over the same heroes once more, we felt it is more appropriate to highlight some of the heroes which were outside of the meta at the tournament’s start, but nevertheless had a great impact in the later stages of MDL Chengdu.

Bounty runes, come back gold, ancient creeps, camps stacking, and more. The economy of Dota keeps growing and growing but how does that affect supports and cores?

We’ve done a lot of testing with our current systems in the Reach league and are finally confident in opening it up to more users. Divine level players may now participate in Reach, effective immediately.

The first major tournament of the season is finally happening. Get up to date with all the teams participating, their odds of winning it all, and more!

Patch 7.22 is certainly overstaying its welcome and it clearly shows in the current professional tournaments. There are almost no new meta developments and for the most part the Summit 11 concentrated on the same exact heroes as the tournaments prior.

Captains and drafters are some of the most revered pros in the scene. The genius drafting strategies and counter picks can win the game before the first bounty runes spawn. Here are some draft ideas to try out for your next battle cup tournament.

Reach had an exciting and informative first week of games, with over 1000 matches played, and over 1200 unique players participating. Here’s the rundown on week 1, and what’s coming down the pipeline.

The idea of a tanky frontline hero in the offlane has been repeated over and over again for the last several months. It makes sense on the professional scene, while working incredibly well in pubs. Building survivability items and allowing yourself to be initiated on has become the go to strategy for a lot of teams and it is unlikely to change until after the new patch is released.

MMR may just be a number but a higher number is superior. Read this article to learn a few tips and tricks on growing your MMR number.

The current meta has been established for a long time but teams still must find their slight edge. At ESL One Hamburg 2019, we saw more of what we’ve been seeing for a few months now.

Top 10 Dota 2 Carry Heroes in 2018

With Valve just recently releasing its Dota 2 Update 7.18, a number of changes made their way into the making. This includes everything from hero/item alternations to a complete change of the game’s Meta. Dota 2 cm carry on size This means everything we know about the game has changed in some way or the other. so, to better educate our readers of the current Carry heroes of the Meta, we are here with a list of the 10 best Dota 2 Carry Heroes of 2018.

Dota 2 Carry Heroes

The Meta for Dota 2 has changed and we are already seeing some new faces making their mark in the current Meta. Dota 2 cm carry on size However, with Icefrog’s effort to balance the game, he made various changes that completely nerfed some of the most picked heroes while bringing up some that we weren’t used to in a very long time. So, without taking any more of your time, here are the 10 best Carry Heroes in the year 2018.

1. Ursa

Ursa is one of the most popular choices for the role of Carry in the current Dota 2 Meta. Dota 2 cm carry on size This is due to the recent love the developers have shown to the agility based hero. This combined with his extremely powerful, yet tanky abilities make him a true beast in the game.

2. Spectre

Spectre has been a hero which was a consistent pick even before patch 7.19. Though, after the update tides favored Spectre even more. Her desolate has been buffed up giving Spectre more ease in farming, as well as her updated Dispersion, has given her enhanced tankability during team fights.

3. Terrorblade

Terrorblade finally got his place back in competitive Dota 2 with the recent patches. Immediately after, we saw teams picking up the split push carry to their advantage. Terrorblade’s farming, mobility build that professional players tend to make on this hero has allowed him to fit in many situations.

4. Anti-Mage

Well, one cannot just ignore Magina from the competitive scene no matter what. Anti Mage has been a life saver for many professional teams who consider this hero their last resort in times of need. No matter the changes to the Meta, you will still see Anti Mage being picked up by professional teams every no own then.

5. Phantom Lancer

The place of both Phantom Lancer and Anti-Mage is relatively the same. Phantom lancer slightly wins during the current Meta because of his farming abilities as well as his input from early game. Though professional players tend to favor the hero more for split pushing it certainly doesn’t mean Phantom lancer isn’t good in team fights.

6. Gyrocopter

Though there were slight nerfs to the hero, Gyrocopter still remains a solid pick in the competitive scene. The AOE damage burst and lock down abilities of Gyrocopter make him a favorable pick in many matches. Plus, his incredible ability to quickly finish off lanes, and heroes make him a true contender in the fight for the best Dota 2 Carry.

7. Ember Spirit

A hero that is favored in both mid and carry role, Ember Spirit’s snowball mechanics are so good that no team wants to let go it to others. Ember Spirit is a greatly contested hero in professional matches who will either be picked or get banned in the drafting stage. Almost every team is good with Ember Spirit on their side and therefore the hero is expected to be heavily contested in the future as well.

8. Alchemist

Ever since the update, Alchemist has been revived from the dead. The new build on Alchemist is working wonders in the professional scene and the hero is getting contested more than ever. VG’s Super is trying to get his hands on the hero whenever possible. Alchemist is definitely going to be one of those heroes you will be seeing at The International 2018.

9. Shadow Fiend

Shadow Fiend is among those heroes that have great potential to come back from gold deficit really really fast. Even if Shadow Fiend does not have a good lane stage with a little bit of support and creep stacks Shadow Fiend can be up and running in no time. Being able to take both mid and carry positions the hero has become a necessity in the current Meta. Dota 2 cm carry on size

10. Faceless Void

Faceless Void has been one of the most consistent picks in Dota 2. However, this agility based character receiving some serious nerfs in the past, the pro scene Meta kicked him out. Well, with patch 7.19, things are looking good for Faceless as more and more players are looking to add him into their drafts. it is because of this newfound love, we thing Faceless Void is going to wreck havoc in the upcoming The International 2018 tournament.

That is it for now, but stay tuned as we going to be bringing you more guides likes this in the coming days. So while you wait for that too happen, comment below and let us know what you think of the guide above. Do you agree with our Top 10 best Dota 2 Carry Heroes guide or do you think we missed out someone very guide?

Dota 2 Hotkey Optimization Gu >

Dota 2 Hotkey Optimization Guide by ChaQ

After writing my “Advanced solo mid guide” I’ve received a lot of questions about hotkeys. People wanted to know how to choose them, which settings are the best and what hotkeys I use myself. To answer all of them, here’s a short guide to choosing your hotkeys:

As I said previously, I’m a big fan of optimising and making your play more efficient. But how can you be efficient when you keep missclicking spells and items or not hitting hotkeys that are too spread out? Yes, you can’t.

I’ll state this clear: i will NOT tell you what hotkeys you should use, if you feel comfortable with legacy hotkeys where spells have their own hotkeys scattered all over the keyboard, go for it. I WILL tell you though some general rules you could follow, and how I discovered my ideal combination.

To start off, there are 4 most common hotkey settings:

1. QWER
2. ASDF
3. ZXCV
4. Legacy

As you can see you can manually select your favorite hotkey setting from the list in DotA 2 options:

If you’re not a DotA veteran, I strongly suggest using the 1, 2 or 3 combination. Legacy hotkeys are for people that are so used to hotkeys from W3 DotA that it would be simply too hard for them to convert to any of above combinations.

Now, to the more advanced things:
Most of the people set their hotkeys to their hero spells and inventory, and that’s it.

In my opinion, if you want to play better and waste less time, you SHOULD have hotkeys for:

1. Quickbuy – allows you to buy an item that you “shift queued” instantly. Insanely useful when waiting for important items like bottle.
2. Purchase sticky – In your settings you can select one item that can be bought after pressing this hotkey. The most useful one is probably tp scroll.
3. Control groups – at least 3
4. Courier, all courier commands – tick “mirror hero hotkeys” in your settings
5. “Missing” – message to allies, really useful in pubs
6. Binded camera position hotkeys (rune spots)
7. Scoreboard – for constantly checking enemy levels
8. Shop – no further explanation needed
9. Show names/hero icons on minimap (default alt)
10. Commands: stop, hold position, move
11. Glyph

Other general hotkey rules:

  1. Have hotkey for EVERY inventory slot. As you progress in skill as a player you’ll notice that situations where you have 6 active items in your inventory are really common and not having one of them binded proves to be a serious disadvantage.
  2. Avoid using alt or ctrl+hotkey for inventory hotkeys, this makes things really hard when trying to play heroes like tinker effectively.
  3. Start putting items into the same slot every game. That way you’ll never have to look at your inventory before casting a tp scroll or magic wand. For me TP is always at G and wand at E.
  4. Do not put items that require extremely fast reaction on slots that are somehow harder to access and/or require you to change position of your hard before using. Example: blink dagger is way more effective on “Q” than on “Space”.
  5. If you think you have all your hotkeys mastered and there’s nothing you can improve on – turn on “Shop always uses hotkeys” setting on. Memorizing all the shop hotkeys brings your mechanics to a next level, allowing you to do flashy plays like upgrading the courier with 2 button as someone dives to kill it.
  6. Do NOT be afraid of changing your hotkeys to something more efficient. For example I’ve always had my hero on “1″ and courier on “2″. Then, when i decided to play meepo my control groups could only start from “3″. That made me missmicro a lot by accidentally selecting the courier. I decided to change the hotkey to ” ` “, it took me well over 3 weeks of missclicking and never getting my items delivered but when I learned it, it helped my play immensely. Think of it as of performing a somersault. If you fall on the ground first time doing it, it doesnt mean you shouldn’t do this at all. It’s just a matter of practice.

When changing hotkeys you know you’re gonna fail a lot, but what matters is the final result – you playing faster and more effectively.

For those unfamiliar with camera binding, the commands are:

Top Rune – bind “yourkey” “dota_camera_setpos -2273.898682 1232.745483 982.072876″

Bottom Rune – bind “yourkey” “dota_camera_setpos 3035.773438 -2972.680176 966.072937″

Hotkeys

The hotkeys settings can be accessed by clicking on the little gear icon in the most top left corner in the main menu. Here, the player can customize many hotkeys, or select one of the many pre-set hotkey templates. Almost every key on the keyboard can be bound to something, with a very few exceptions. The exceptions usually have a set purpose in the game and thus are un-rebindable.

Contents

Unbindable keys [ edit ]

Several hotkeys have a set purpose, which cannot be changed. This results in them mostly being un-rebindable.

  • The following keys are completely unbindable: ESC, SHIFT (left and right), CTRL (left and right), MOUSE 1, MOUSE 2
  • The ALT key can only bound together with other keys, as a combo key. The ALTGR key is treated as the same key.
    • Although the ALT modifier can be bound to another key, ALT is still unbindable. When the modifier gets rebound, ALT has no use.
  • The WINDOWS KEY (left and right) (or COMMAND KEY on Apple keyboards) are unbindable, but they can be turned bindable in the advanced hotkey settings. These keys keep their default function, which is opening the start menu on the desktop. This is true even when the keys get bound ingame.
  • The PRINT KEY is fully bindable, but it also keeps its default function, which is to take screenshots.
  • The following keys are bindable on their own, but cannot be combined with ALT: PRINT KEY, TAB
  • All other standard keys are bindable.

Basic hotkeys [ edit ]

Basic hotkeys are active while playing a match. The player can change the hotkeys at any time, even during a match. There are hotkeys for abilities, items, unit actions, shop actions, chat, interface and control groups. In the advanced hotkeys, there are additional settings for unit actions, shop actions, interface and control groups, and the hotkeys for camera actions, saved camera positions and some hotkey setting options.

Hotkey templates [ edit ]

By default, the game uses the “Arrow (Default)” hotkey layout. The player can choose from a variety of pre-set hotkey templates, which can be found by clicking on “Reset hotkeys. ” at the bottom left of the settings menu. Available templates are:

Template Description
Arrow (Default) Dota 2 default hotkeys.
WASD Dota 2 default hotkeys, adapted for using W, A, S and D for camera movement.
Legacy Keys Dota 1 style hotkeys; with different ability hotkeys for every hero and unit. 1
MMO Key bindings similar to various Massively Multiplayer Online games.
League of Legends Key bindings similar to League of Legends.
Heroes of Newerth Key bindings similar to Heroes of Newerth.
Smite Key bindings similar to Smite.

1 Legacy keys can also be enabled by ticking the corresponding option in the Advanced Hotkeys settings, rather than starting over with this template.

Activating a template unbinds all hotkeys used in it from their existing actions. Hotkeys can still be changed freely after selecting a template, except Legacy Keys’ item hotkeys.

Abilities [ edit ]

There are 6 ability slots which can be used. If one slot is empty and contains no ability, it is not visible in-game, and all abilities coming after it are moved together. For example, if a unit has an ability in slot 1 and 3, but no ability in slot 2, then the 2nd slot is not visible and the 3rd ability is moved next to the 1st ability, so that there is no gap. However, the slots are still bound according to the settings. Despite the 3rd slot being moved to remove the gap, its hotkey is still equal to whatever is set for the 3rd slot in the ability hotkey settings.

Heroes usually have 3 abilities in their first 3 slots, and their ultimate always in the 6 slot. This causes the ultimate spell to always use whatever hotkey is set for the 6th slot, despite the ultimate visually appearing in the 4th slot. This is why the hotkey of the 4th ability on non-hero units is not equal to the hotkey of ultimate abilities. The non-hero unit has 4 abilities in its 4 slots and has the 5th and 6th slot empty, so they are not displayed. If its 4th ability would be moved to the 6th slot, it would make visually no difference, but change its hotkey to what is set in the 6th slot.

By default, the ability hotkeys apply to every unit the player controls. It is possible though, to bind different hotkeys to heroes, couriers and other units by turning “Unit Specific Hotkeys” on. It is also possible to bind unique hotkeys for each hero, however, this is not possible for other units. Clicking on “Clear” after having given non-hero units, couriers or an individual hero unique settings, sets the hotkeys back to what the player set as default.

The player can choose between regular cast (select spell and then select target) and quickcast (select spell and automatically cast it where the cursor is). Autocast is by default ALT+ability hotkey. It is possible to choose between regular and quickcast for couriers, non-heroes and for each hero, just like how unique bindings are possible. If the player wishes to use regular and quickcast, or wants to use different autocast hotkeys, the “Enable Advanced Quickcast/Autocast Hotkeys” setting can be turned on, which allows setting different hotkeys for regular, quick – and autocast for each slot. This also works together with unit specific hotkeys. However, advanced quickcast/autocast hotkeys is not compatible with legacy hotkeys. Here, the player can only decide between regular and quickcast, and autocast is always ALT+hotkey.
