Dota 2 patch 6.81′ Spring Cleaning ‘ brings tons of changes

It’s been months since we last saw a major Dota 2 patch released by Valve, but it looks like the wait is almost over. The Spring Cleaning update comes with lots of bug fixes, interface and inventory changes, and a ton of gameplay balance. A lengthy changelog was posted a few days ago on the official blog in preparation for patch 6.81 that’s scheduled to go live this week. We’ll talk a little about some of the most important changes that come with the update, but if you want to check out the whole thing you can view the full patch notes here .

Axe: “Counter Helix now uses Pseudo Random chance”. This means that you are less likely to get those massive lucky streaks where Counter Helix procs four or five times in a row, it also means that you are less likely to get the unlucky streaks where it doesn’t proc at all. Counter Helix proc chance still 17%. Legion Commander‘s Moment of Courage was changed the same way.

Chaos Knight: “Phantasm now has a 50% chance to create one extra illusion when cast”. CK hasn’t seen that much play ever since the IO nerf so I’m guessing this buff is aimed at bringing him back into the spotlight as a late game carry that doesn’t require a combo with Wisp. Phantasm summons three illusions at level 3, now there’s 50% chance that it will summon four, and if you have a Manta that means you can go up to six. Without AoE, there are very few heroes that can deal with something like that late-game.

Earthshaker: 1. “Creeps no longer try to path around Fissure; they will wait for it to disappear”. ES wont be doing the famous creep wave stacking anymore, it was fun while it lasted though. 2.”Echo Slam no longer ignores units that are invisible or in Fog of War”. Finally some common sense! Any unit in the ulti’s area should be affected, visible or not, a very welcomed change.

Huskar: “Burning Spears is no longer a Unique Attack Modifier” Ursa‘s Fury Swipes was changed the same way. Seeing either of the two heroes with something like a Desolator or Satanic will be incredibly scary.

Keeper of the Light: “Added Aghanim’s Scepter upgrade: Provides permanent Spirit Form. Additionally, the following effects are active during the day: Keeper of the Light gains unobstructed vision and Illuminate heals allies for 75% of the damage values”.

Lich: “Aghanim’s Scepter Chain Frost no longer has a bounce limit”. This might turn out to be a little unbalanced, I assume they will tweak it some more in future updates.

Shadow Demon: “Added Aghanim’s Scepter upgrade: Demonic Purge cooldown replaced with two charges that have a 40 second replenish time”.

Vengeful Spirit: “When Vengeful Spirit is slain, her killer is inflicted with a negative Vengeance Aura, which decreases the damage of her killer and their nearby allies, until she revives”. You now have an excuse for feeding with VS! The damage reduction of the negative aura is based on the normal Vengeance Aura and has a 900 range aoe.

Other changes include: Roshan base armor increased by 1, Meepo no longer available in Ability Draft, health regen aura for the Pipe of Insight, new treasure chests and much, much more. In related news, The International 2014’s Regional Qualifiers are less than two weeks away so stay tuned as we bring you updates on the teams and upcoming matches.

Djardel Jicko B. “DJ” Mampusti, formerly known as Chrissy, is a professional Dota 2 player who is curently playing for Fnatic.

Biography [ edit ]

DotA [ edit ]

DJ’s first roots of DotA began in his first year of high school when his >[1] The team was based in Marikina, where he used to play with Ryo and Soniq at IT Log Park a lot, until one day Soniq invited DJ join his team for a local competitive match. [2]

Dota 2 [ edit ]

With Dota 2 being launched, many players along with DJ transitioned into Dota 2. With Valve making a partnership with Nexon, the scene saw a South Korean server and a 1.7 million USD league established in 2013. [3] After it was revealed that his current team-mate at that time, Cast was invited to help a newly formed Korean team EoT Hammer and saw that there were roster issues, DJ saw this as an opportunity and seized it so he can further continue his dream of playing DotA as a professional player. He joined EoT Hammer in November 2013 and moved to South Korea the following month. Adapting to South Korea and their culture was difficult, along with the search for a sponsor as his income was only from his winnings. EOT Hammer managed to place fourth in Nexon Sponsorship League Season 2 and runner-up to Zephyr in Nexon Sponsorship League Season 3. On May 4 2014, EOT Hammer went under a new name called Rave, and DJ along with most of its members continued their run under this label. DJ played either the mid or offlane depending on Cast’s decision, the captain & drafter at the time. His first offline tournament under Rave saw them at the semi-finals of I-league Season 1 and 4th place at MSI BEAT IT 2014.

Their achievements and form over the new year saw them invited by Valve to their first marquee event bes >[4] However, after the tournament, Rave saw a drop in form and failed to win qualifying matches, most importantly coming short in the The International 2015 South East Asian Qualifers, and on June 16, 2015 DJ chose to leave Rave to not drag the team down any further and had plans of making a new team. [5] On the 19th June 2015, it was announced that he would be joining MSI-Evolution Gaming Team, but this proved to be short lived.

During the post-TI5 shuffle, it was announced on the 26th of August that Fnatic acquired DJ for their team. DJ, happy with the pickup, replied: “Coming from Korea to the Philippines and then to Malaysia, I am no stranger to living abroad now. I think joining Fnatic is a very good opportunity for me to prove myself and I am extremely thankful I was given the chance to do so. Hopefully, I can represent Philippines on an international stage once again! #fnaticpinoypr >[6] In September he was awarded player of the month by Mineski [2] Despite a rough start from the second half of 2015, DJ began to show his influence as a support on the international stage during m >[7] and later finishing third place in the Starladder i-League StarSeries S2. After finishing fourth place at The International 2016, he departed Fnatic. [8] During the transfer period after TI6, he played with Execration as an unofficial player and won the MPGL Southeast Asian Championship. He later joined Execration as an offical player. [9]

Comparing MOBAs: Dota 2 vs. League of Legends vs. Heroes of Newerth

Above: Dota 2, League of Legends, and Heroes of Newerth.

Note: We updated this comparison with new info and games here.

A casual observer would probably have a hard time telling the difference between League of Legends, Dota 2, and Heroes of Newerth. All three are spiritual successors to Defense of the Ancients, an insanely popular custom map for Warcraft III that pits two teams of five heroes against each other. That strategic, intense style of play has birthed a new genre, the multiplayer online battle arena (MOBA).

We’re here to help you see the differences between the three most popular MOBAs currently out on the market. Some of the discrepancies may seem small, but they can make a big difference with games this complicated.

First, let’s talk about how they’re similar. They’re all free-to-play and offer plenty of microtransactions (many of which are cosmetic). They’re all based on the structure made popular in Defense of the Ancients: Your team has to destroy the enemy’s base before the other team does.

You fight other players and monsters controlled by the computer to earn gold and experience so you can make your hero more powerful, which allows you to push through lanes of the other team’s defensive towers and monsters. Even the main map in each game is essentially the same. Each features two bases connected by three lanes, with a monster-filled jungle offering branching paths between them.

Now, let’s get into the differences. We’ll start by looking at some of the basic stats in the graph below, and then we’ll briefly highlight each game.

League of Legends (LOL)

Gallery: Gallery

Above: League of Legends gameplay.

League of Legends is easily the most popular MOBA out there. While its competitors offer all of their heroes for free, LOL only gives you 10 free characters at a time. Exactly which heroes changes every week. You’ll have to pay for any other champions you want, either with real money or in-game currency that you can earn (slowly) by playing.

LOL is the simplest one of the three to grasp. While still heavily based on the original Defense of the Ancients formula, gone are some of the more advanced techniques, like “denying” (the ability to kill your own monsters before the other team can, denying them gold and experience). LOL is generally faster than its competitors although by “faster” I mean matches may take 40 minutes instead of 50.

League of Legends also offers a couple of variants on the 5-on-5 play the genre is most famous for. One is just a smaller, 3-on-3 take on MOBA action, but the other, Dominion, is a quicker-paced mode where teams of five fight over circular control points. A fourth map, the Howling Abyss, let’s two teams of five battle on a chaotic, single lane .

Dota 2

Gallery: Gallery

Above: Valve’s Dota 2 in action.

Compared to LOL, Dota 2 is much more faithful to the original Defense of the Ancients. You won’t find any variants on the classic 5-on-5 map. However, Dota 2 does offer immediate access to all of its heroes, with microstransactions reserved for cosmetic stuff like character skins and announcer voices.

Being the newest of the bunch, Dota 2’s also the best looking. While all three feature visuals clearly inspired by Warcraft III’s art direction, Dota 2’s graphics have a cleaner gleam and shine to them.

Generally speaking, Dota 2 is slower than LOL. While the layout of the map is identical, Dota 2’s is a bit bigger. Actions, like movement speed and casting spells, are generally slower. Also, while LOL allows players to transport back to their home base at any time, you’ll need to have a stack of town portal scrolls handy if you want to get around in Dota 2. On the plus side, using the scrolls can send you to any friendly building, including towers.

Heroes of Newerth (HON)

Gallery: Gallery

Above: Heroes of Newerth in action.

Heroes of Newerth has more in common with Dota 2 than LOL. It’s a very literal spin-off of Defense of the Ancients. Dota 2 and HON even feature many items and heroes that, aside from their names, are pretty much identical. The biggest difference between them is the pacing. HON matches tend to move faster.

In addition to the standard 5-on-5 map, HON has two more official battlegrounds. One is a smaller field for 3-on-3 play while the other is another 5-on-5 map with a different layout. Players generally stick with the original.

Graphically, HON most closely resembles the original Warcraft III mod. It doesn’t have LOL’s cartoony, dark outlines or Dota 2’s sheen.

Those are the biggest differences, but fans of each game could argue endlessly over the smaller details of character balancing and other intricate mechanics.

Of course, these aren’t the only MOBAs on the market. Guardians of Middle-earth distills the experience for consoles by using a smaller map and featuring faster action. It also, of course, includes characters from Tolkien’s popular mythology. Super Monday Night Combat combines core concepts of MOBAs, like pushing lanes and attacking towers/turrets, and puts them into a team-based third-person shooter. Even mobile publisher Zygna has released a MOBA called Solstice Arena, which simplifies things by featuring 3-on-3 battles and getting rid of nonplayer monsters.

Above: Archers at the ready in Guardians of Middle-earth.

The genre will see new competition soon, too. Infinite Crisis will pit DC comic characters against each other in MOBA action later this year, and Blizzard is working on its own successor to the original Defense of the Ancients called Blizzard All-Stars.

Until then, if you’re feeling the itch to try your hand at this new kind of game, start with League of Legends. It’s the quickest to grasp, and it’s faster action is more satisfying for newer players. If you find yourself craving more complexity, try HON or Dota 2.

Fallen From Grace – Gyrocopter’s Irrelevancy In The Current Meta

As patches come and go, so do hero trends. Heroes can go from hot picks to dead fish and vice versa. Dota 2 current meta 2016 tax The current meta seems to make every hero viable, but the harsh reality is that among the 105 different hero picks at TI6, there were several heroes whose appearances were short lived, especially considering how consistently picked they had been before.

The fall of the mighty Gyrocopter

For several patches, Gyrocopter was a stable pick throughout most, if not all metas. A well rounded carry, who even had a short flirt with the midlane or as support, but ultimately the hero was always there. It was a go-to pick that didn’t always draw a ban–a hero that could fit seemingly any line-up. He fit the bill as an early aggressor with Rocket Barrage, and his teamfight ultimate allowed him to transition into the midgame quite well, while his late-game effectiveness never wavered.

Certainly, the hero was nerfed over the past years, be it directly, lowering his base Int, or indirectly, decreasing neutral creep bounties and making ancients more difficult to kill. Patch 6.85 and the Frankfurt Major were the last big stages for the hero to shine, although 19 picks and a 32% win rate in the playoffs certainly aren’t glamorous. All seemed fine with the hero, but then 6.86 came.

It wasn’t that 6.86 nerfed the hero into oblivion, or pushed him just over the edge, no. It gave life to other heroes that were too weak before and changed the meta just enough to edge out Gyrocopter. Patch 6.87 was the final nail in the coffin as it started the trend towards tanky cores, something Gyrocopter certainly never was. One Chronosphere or one Roar–quite frankly there are many more currently popular spells and heroes that could take out a Gyrocopter and render him useless.

These threats existed before, but since his ability to farm himself ahead of the curve had been weakened and he doesn’t have an innate escape ability, there doesn’tt seem to be enough arguments for a Gyrocopter pick these days.

Sustain is important

Gyrocopter is a special case, though there are others that have shared similar fates. These other heroes may not have been as dominant throughout multiple patches, but they’ve shown a lot of recent success and popularity.

Doom has always gone in and out of the meta, but this roller-coaster was especially noteworthy this year. As a top pick from the Frankfurt Major, he went to basically irrelevant in Shanghai, to then reliable pick in Manila, only to drop off into irrelevancy again–Doom has had a rough year. There’s an argument to be made that Doom could excel in this meta, for various reasons. Given a bit of armor, the hero becomes quite tanky, and a utility Doom with Mek can really provide some mid-game dominance. His ultimate’s long cooldown seems to prevent him from doing so, however, as 145 seconds of downtime could easily mean missing out in two or three engagements. The fact that Doom needs to acquire his tankiness by purchasing armor certainly doesn’t help his case, and it makes him feel quite “slow” in the midgame, in comparison to other offlaners or junglers. To top it all off, he’s a hero to take down a single target with. His low mana pool and his –quite frankly–low damage output in the early mid game are not suited for drawn out fights.

Tusk was the hero of the Frankfurt Major. A strong and flexible pick that can dominate the early game and create a lot of space in the midgame. He can be played both aggressively, as well as defensively and provides much need initiation. He was bound to be nerfed following the Frankfurt Major–and he definitely was–but the new Iron Talon, offlane trend gave him the chance to also be played in the offlane and while he wasn’t a hot pick anymore, he was still very much relevant in Shanghai. The Manila Major saw less of him, though in his 7 appearances the hero proved his worth still. Yet at TI6, Tusk rolled in only twice, losing both games.

He’s a teamfighter, he provides flexibility in the draft–something that is very useful these days as kawaiisocks laid out–and Tusk’s spells have all low enough cooldowns to be used multiple times during a fight. Unfortunately for him though, the meta has shifted away from utility cores such as him, or even roamers like him. Definite lockdowns are trending, allowing heroes like Ogre Magi or Beastmaster to prevail and reign supreme on positions Tusk would like to be in. Either that, or heroes that provide great teamfight presence, a teamfight presence greater than that of Tusk. Usually with big AoE spells, like Kunkka’s Ghost Ship or Riki’s Smoke Screen.

Ultimately, Tusk also doesn’t deal as much damage as other heroes do. The aforementioned alternatives all have some sort of reliable damage output that is higher than Tusk’s. Tusk’s attack damage never increases significantly, and his spells are never meant to burst, but rather to control. Other heroes can provide both and in a meta that can have games between 14 and 80 minutes, there’s no room for a hero whose damage doesn’t scale.

Buffs not necessary

Talking about these heroes was not meant to be an appeal to Icefrog to buff them. If anything, it was about showing how strong these heroes have been and still are. Just the way teams and players approach the way of playing right now–it doesn’t suit these heroes. And there are many more like them, who, without necessarily needing a direct buff, could return to the spotlight once more.

These three heroes certainly have proven that they can stand the test of time, despite a few nerfs, so who says they need buffs to come back.

HMMM. Interesting. I personally don’t like getting Mask of Madness on Sniper , he’s too squishy if he gets caught out of position.

Eye of Skadi is one of the best items on Sniper . I say this because:

****ing Snowball Bullets Are ****ing Majestic
    You Slow People
    You Become A ****ing Tank
    ****

Drow Ranger ‘s Ice Arrows, Eye of Skadi Is So Much Better
You Stun AND Slow
What’s Not To Like?

Eye of Skadi is generally my big item on Sniper , I very rarely go without it, and almost never go without Satanic , which is so much better than Mask of Madness , by about 5% extra lifesteal, possible 200% lifesteal, str, better build-up, MOAR TANK *****ES!

I like playing Sniper and always laugh when I see Mask of Madness on a Sniper , as any good player will be able to punish it (Gotta love dat Blink Dagger Naix, SUCK IT *****ES!).

Why don’t you start with Wraith Band ? It makes it so much easier to last hit, and don’t give me that **** about “Starting with Wraith Band makes you so ****ing squishy early on” because it doesn’t, you get Wraith Band , Iron Branch Iron Branch +2 Pooled Tango and you’re fine, trust me, I have a 100% winrate with those starting items 😛

In very rare situations where your team is losing and you need to do something to win fights, getting Skull Basher + Monkey King Bar is legit, I d > Skull Basher is ****ing terrible on Sniper as he’s a ranged hero.” STFU, imaginary person that should probably not be used in any other place than my gu >

Good guide overall,

Yet it’s interesting to see none of the alternative builds mention desolator which trainwrecks enemies in 3 successive shots.

IMO, for the early stages of the game MoM is a very viable choice, but it should be transtioned into desolator+hyperstone if the game prolongs to late/superlate game combats.

About your caster build, and how you increase your skills. I am assuming that you use his Q in order to farm, but I feel that this is kinda an ineffective method of farming when mana regen isn’t really going to be that extensive until Orchids, and that is going to be someway past the laning phase because we’re not starting that till after Drums. For that matter, Take Aim is how Sniper survives in lane. He is squishy, and he has no escape mechanisms. He will not get a Shadow Blade as core with the Caster build either. That’s why I feel like not maxing Take Aim first is incredibly dangerous and leaves you with little to work with, plus little means to run if ganks do come, and will come, your way. Shrapnel has really great range. And by the time you need it, you should have plenty of damage. And it’s slow even at 3 is still very nice. That’s why I felt that maxing Take Aim first, then Shrapnel, then not leveling Headshot until after Q is maxed (or even taking only one point if you really need that mini-stun to stop a channeling ability instead of a point in Shrapnel) would be a better build. Because all the damage will be largely from a combination of his Q, autoattacks and Orchid. The loss of damage from his W isn’t so bad.

Also, I’d suggest getting Drums after Orchid, because that’s more of a complimentary item than anything. Your Orchid should be rushed, since you need it as soon as possible. Like, right after whatever boots you get. If you really need damage, I would suggest getting a Wrath Band or even building it into Aquila if you REALLY need mana. Dota 2 headshot 27east

And because we’re taking Take Aim first, Tranquil Boots are unnecessary as you shouldn’t be taking damage. If you are. Say, in a lane with some long range harass, like Shadow Demon, then by all means get them. But otherwise, he should be safe now. Sniper’s early game should be played cautiously and with his Caster build even more so.

Also, I wondered if Ethereal Blade would be any good for this build, and I thought that maybe it would be but only in conjunction with some kind of positioning item.
