Controls [ edit ]

  • Right clicking anywhere on the minimap will command the hero to move to that location. However, there is a delay of 0.2 seconds, where clicks will not be registered. This is to prevent missclicks.
  • Ground-target abilities, such as Wrath of Nature , can be cast by clicking on the minimap.

Pinging [ edit ]

  • Alt + Left Clicking on the minimap will alert your team about a location by Link▶️ playing a sound and showing an exclamation mark on their minimap.
    • Clicking buildings will play a different sound depending on the building’s alliance, and generally mean a Link▶️ defense / Link▶️ attack of the building is desired.
    • Clicking enemy heroes will play the same sound as on enemy buildings, typically to announce the desire to attack.
  • Ctrl + Alt + Left Clicking on the minimap will alert your team by Link▶️ playing a different sound and showing an X on their minimap, generally indicating danger.

Drawing [ edit ]

Holding down both Ctrl and the left mouse button while moving your cursor over the minimap will draw lines on the minimap. These lines can be seen by all allied players, and their color corresponds to the color of the player. Lines will fade after a few seconds.

Console Commands [ edit ]

There are several console commands that can be used to modify the minimap in various ways to match an individual player’s preferences. Some of the commonly used ones are shown below.

MID OR FEED

Welcome to the Midlane, where you suck and your opponent is amazing. Get used to it. We are gonna sit down here and talk about how to be a better mid-laner, because let’s be honest fellow Mid-laners we have a bad rep. We are seen as arrogant, cocky, unwilling to teamfight, split pushers and solo-yolo killers, Sumail-like. The truth of the matter is that we are not Sumail. So while he can get away with bullying his opponent back to the tier 3, we should never do this. So what is the first lesson learned? You are not that good. This is okay, because everyone else in your game is also not that good. Let’s hold off on the other lessons and get an understanding of what the Mid-lane is. Welcome to our DotA 2 mid lane guide.

Mid-Lane

This is at its basic, the lane in the middle of the map. Mid lane. Strategically this can allow you as a mid-laner to rotate easily to either lane; get help from either of your lanes for ganks; or get ganked by the enemy team just as easily.

Typically, mid lane is a solo match up, you vs some other arrogant DOTA 2 player trying to show off. Is that a $400 Invoker set on the enemy team? GG. Being a solo match up means you can either win big, or lose big. This is a lane where technical skills are needed. If you are good at last hitting and denial, you can have an excellent early game in the mid lane.

Mid also has the advantage of having power runes spawn every two minutes near you, giving you a boost if you can get to the rune before your enemy. These runes can either double your damage, regen your heros mana and health fully or make you invisible so that you can sneak up on an unsuspecting foe. All very useful. However this is just the basics of the mid lane. Win the last hits/denys, get the runes and you win the lane right? Wrong.

Roles

This lane is varied in its approaches. Some players believe that to win the lane, they must take the tower first. This works with some heroes like Death Prophet, Invoker (Wex, Exort), Drow, and Shadow Fiend. Or you can win the lane by bullying the opponent out, creating such a uninviting atmosphere that they leave the lane to you alone, Huskar, Templar Assassin, and Viper just to name a few that fill this role. Finally there is the playstyle where you just try to survive until your hero becomes useful. Typically you see Storm Spirit, Alchemist or Tinker in this role, heroes that once they hit a certain level can start to snowball into crazy train.

Let’s break these roles down.

Season 10 Preseason is Here!

Push Strat

Here the focus is on taking down the enemy creeps as fast as possible so that your wave can get into the enemy tower where you can focus on hitting that Tier 1 tower. Towers have no regeneration capability, unless there is a Treant in the game, so every spot of damage you put on the tower will stay, and eventually you will take it down. Taking the tower gives your team a gold advantage as well as making it more difficult for the enemy team to rotate around the map.

First objective is to kill the enemy ranged creep. This guy does a good amount of damage standing in the background keeping the lane pushed. If you kill him first, your lane will automatically push towards the enemy tower. Next objective, creep pull. Draw aggression from the enemy creep by right clicking the enemy hero while you are near the creep. This will draw them towards you, stopping them from attacking your creep all the while your creep and you are killing them. This will push you under the tower, allowing you to get some damage in. Be careful though, as you still want to be getting last hits/denys in the lane. Deny’s are extremely important as you can gain an experience advantage over the enemy hero.

Bully

This is a very aggressive play style, big risk and big reward. You can be called a feeder, noob, and lets just say many other unfriendly terms in this play style. Yet if it works, it destroys the enemy, making one of their hero obsolete, and possibly forcing the enemy to rotate to kill you. If you want to see how this is done in a pro setting, watch Sumail, he is the best at it – he’s just a big mid lane bully.

Some key concepts for this style is to generally ignore the creep until they are in perfect last hitting/deny range. Do not draw aggro when going for the enemy hero. Instead click the ground to move towards them until you are in range to attack, of course if you have a orb attack skill like Drow’s frost arrows or Huskar’s burning spear these abilities do not draw aggro when used. Your objective is to deal damage to the enemy hero, make them have a difficult time in lane, all the while you are taking a calculated amount of damage.

For this role you will want to be a courier hog. I have seen a decent Viper player courier out 10 salves in the first 5 minutes of the game, just so that he never leaves and can always be harassing the enemy. It works, but it gets frustrating when you are in another lane wondering where on earth any of your items are. Make the enemy weep.

Stay Alive

This is a pretty boring style of play. Meant for a team composition that will give you the time to get to where you need. You want to stay alive in the lane. Deny’s are key for this style. You want to deny the enemy any advantage you can as they know there is nothing you can do to them in lane. An alchemist bullying anyone before level 6? It should not happen. Tinker can maybe inflict some damage but cannot kill you until level 5. If you are playing as one of these heroes work on your last hits/denys as they are fundamental to giving you some sort of impact once your hero comes online.

Conclusion

All of these play styles aside there are a few rules to remember when Mid, and the takeaway from our DotA 2 mid lane guide:

  1. Don’t be a jerk
  2. You are only as good as the rest of your team unless you are playing down 2 full ranks
  3. Mid is not the most important role, but you can be, learn your place do not force it
  4. Teamwork makes the Dream Work

Dota 2’s TI9 Predictions: Winners, Targets, Underdogs and More

It’s that time of year! TI9 predictions time! (Image via Valve)

With the group stage of The International 2019, Hotspawn staff sat down to discuss predictions for the event. While we’re all eager to see how the first China-hosted TI will turn out, we don’t always see eye-to-eye when it comes to which teams are strongest and which are at risk of disappointing placements. Hotspawn staff came together to share our thoughts and TI9 predictions.

Check out our predictions and then tell us on social media what we got right or wrong!

SO CLOSE

Name a few teams you think are likely to make it to the top four.

Chelsea Jack: Team Secret, PSG. LGD, Evil Geniuses…. They’ve all been up at the top of competition across the season, and I think they’ll carry through TI9 with their consistency!

Gillian Linscott: In no particular order – Vici Gaming, Evil Geniuses, Team Secret, and Ninjas in Pyjamas. They’ve been pretty consistent throughout the DPC and I think that they all have the potential to claim the Aegis for their own.

Michael Hassall: Virtus. pro, Team Secret, Vici Gaming. Consistent teams who at various points in the season have looked like the best teams in the world.

Joe Gstettner: Team Secret, Virtus Pro and EG. All of them had a great season and know how to rock the big stage.

NO PRESSURE

Which teams do you think could finish in the bottom four?

Chelsea: Infamous, Royal Never Give Up and Keen Gaming are the teams I’d put the biggest question marks around.

Gillian: Royal Never Give Up, Chaos Esports Club, Keen Gaming, and probably Infamous. I think these teams are really going to struggle against the top tier organizations like Team Secret or Virtus. Pro.

Michael: Mineski and Royal Never Give Up are going to be long shots. Infamous is definitely in that group as well.

Joe: Infamous and NaVi will have a hard time in China. Dota 2 reddit bet prediction rock They are not on the same level as the others at the moment.

DARK HORSE

Which team could come out of nowhere to defy pundits by winning it all?

Chelsea: TNC Predator. I don’t think we’ve seen their ceiling – could it be winning TI? Besides which, it should certainly be SEA’s year to win by now!

Players’ Dinner ✔️

Gillian: Alliance. I think that they’ve grown so much over the past year and I think that most teams will not be preparing for them like they will for other teams.

Michael: I’m biased because I love the team, but Alliance. No one expects it, but exactly the type of team that could pull off an upset.

Joe: I would love to see an absolute underdog like Chaos Gaming to surprise us all. Misery knows how this feels after the TI 2016 run.

OUT OF GAS

Which team is most likely to drop out earlier than expected?

Chelsea: Evil Geniuses. I love this squad, and I want to see them do well. They’ve been third place a lot this year and I expect them to place highly, but there’s something about this roster that feels not quite comfortable. I wouldn’t be shocked if they stall out in an early round.

Gillian: OG. I think a lot of people are still hyped from their win last year and forget that they really haven’t performed all that well this year. I don’t think they are the unstoppable powerhouse that they were last year and I think their performance is going to shock a lot of fans this year.

Michael: OG. I don’t think they’ve proved they can beat top, or even mid-level teams consistently this year. If they come up against Team Secret, or even Ninjas in Pyjamas early, they’re out.

Joe: Vici Gaming. As TI takes place in China, the pressure for the Chinese teams is so high. And so are their own expectations. I would love to see all home teams to come far as this will keep the crowd excited, but I don’t think they can push through.

BULLSEYE

Which team do you think other teams have their eyes on?

Chelsea: I think squads would be wise to keep an eye on Vici Gaming. They won EPICENTER and they’ll be the hometown heroes. If Secret had performed better at EPICENTER, I’d pin it on them, but they looked beatable there, and that might be enough to deflect some attention.

Gillian: I think Team Secret is definitely a team that players will be looking out for as with Virtus. Pro. Those two teams have been very strong over the past year and they finished with more than double EG’s points in the DPC this season.

Michael: Team Secret has the biggest target on it’s back for sure. Their poor performance at EPICENTER has other teams smelling blood in the water. This has been the team to beat all year, and now they’re showing weakness.

Joe: It’s Team Secret all other teams are looking for. They had such a great DPC season, and everyone is waiting for the next Puppey drafting surprise.

AEGIS-OWNERS

Who do you predict will win TI9?

Chelsea: Team Secret. It’s been a while since we’ve seen the leaders in the season also take the Aegis. Their performance at the EPICENTER Major could be seen as a sign that they could be our “out of gas” team, but maybe they were just taking a much-deserved break!

Gillian: Team Secret. They are at the top of their game and have been pretty unstoppable all season. They’ve slipped up a few times but who hasn’t? EPICENTER was the last tournament of the DPC and they had secured their way to TI so I’ll consider their placing at EPICENTER ‘break’ tournament for them.

Michael: Virtus. pro. They seemed to fall off at the end of the DPC season, but I don’t think that’s a true indication of their potential. By the time they were scoring third and seventh place finishes, they were already guaranteed a trip to The International, and I don’t think their heart was in it. At TI9, they’ll be playing for keeps.

Joe: PSG. LGD. If they can channel the energy of the audience and keep their heads clear, PSG. LGD has everything to win TI. Now it’s time for an Eastern team again to claim the Aegis and in Shanghai, this team will be a Chinese powerhouse.

One of the less frequently seen cosplays at TI6, this Raijin was just electrifying. Taking a quick food break before his next battle, or photo op, he seems caught a bit off guard. You can tell, however, the effort that Immortallolzzz put into the costume.

Ancient Apparition by Reinessa

Reinessa, better known as one of the Dota 2 hosts and Dota 2 streamer on Twitch. tv, is also an amazing cosplayer. Strutting her stuff as an Ancient Apparition, she nails the otherworldly look perfectly. Having the autograph/message wall as her background enhances the effect as well.

Ember by wazelei_; Antimage by Jamison Stone

A fun showdown between Ember and an Antimage takes place at TI6. Both costumes are extraordinary. Embers blades look sharp and ready to draw blood, while the rest of the costume is on point. Antimage is a glowing nightmare, with LED lights on his arms, legs and in his blades. Such amazing dedication to the characters they have chosen to become.

Small groups can be seen throughout an event such as TI6. Seeing people who cosplay a character you love or meeting others you’ve known online is one of the highlights of a convention or gaming event. Here a couple Meepos, Pudge, Lina, and Omniknight gather before battle.

At events like this, group photos are the norm. Featuring a variety of heroes, including Sniper, Crystal Maiden, Lina, Rajin, and more, this group really showcases the astounding talent seen at TI6.

Dota – Low Priority Matchmaking

Low Priority is a temporary matchmaking penalty that is applied to accounts that have engaged in behaviors that are detrimental to the community. An account with a Low Priority penalty will be restricted to the Single Draft game mode for a specified number of games. Winning the specified number of games is the only way to remove the Low Priority penalty.

Depending on the history and type of behaviors, a variable number of low priority wins will be required. If an account already has a 5-game penalty while being assigned a new penalty, a temporary matchmaking restriction may also be assigned.

The Conduct Summary, viewable in-game, will provide a history of the behaviors associated with Low Priority over a span of the previous 25 games that an account has played.

How can a Low Priority penalty be removed?

As mentioned above, the only way to remove the Low Priority penalty is to win the required number of games in Single Draft mode. Steam Support may be able to help you address the underlying cause of the behavior that led to the penalty; ie, crashing issues. However, Steam Support does not modify or remove these penalties under any circumstance.

What types of behaviors can result in a Low Priority penalty?

  • Abandoning a matchmaking game that is not marked as ‘safe to leave’.
  • Being in a Ranked party when one of the party members is assigned an abandon.
  • Being reported by other users for negative in-game behavior.
  • Abusing hero abilities or the in-game courier.
  • Extended AFK behavior or otherwise not participating in a game that you have joined.
  • Joining a group with another individual that is in the low priority matchmaking queue will cause the entire group to be placed in the low priority queue until the group is disbanded or the low priority individual leaves.

What other effects does a Low Priority penalty have on an account?

An account with a Low Priority penalty will also experience the following consequences while the penalty is active.

  • The account will not qualify for any item drops.
  • Achievements and quests will not be counted.
  • Battle points or other seasonal rewards cannot be earned.
  • Queuing with other accounts will place them in the Low Priority matchmaking pool while partied.

What if these behaviors are performed while an account has an active Low Priority penalty?

If an account in low priority engages in any of the activities outlined in the above section, more Low Priority games will be assigned to the account. If an account is already at the max five-game penalty, a matchmaking ban will be applied in addition, preventing matchmaking of any kind.

What if technical issues are resulting in game abandons?

We know this happens, and we’ve built in a small threshold to accommodate occasional abandons. A single abandon will not put you into low priority.

If you are continuing to experience technical issues that result in abandons, it is important to keep in mind that this is causing a bad game for the other 9 players as well. We encourage you to address the underlying issue, so that you can complete the game penalty free, while also making sure that the other players can complete the game as well.

Top 10 Dota 2 Items to Crave for

With Dota 2 already flooded with hats, players always wonder what are the best items that they should have in dota 2 before they die. So to make your death wish more easy, we have gathered up the top 10 best Dota 2 items that you should have once in your lifetime.

Dragon Claw Hook
Even if you don’t play well with Pudge, this is something that you have been craving for all your life. Ever since the start when Pudge’s DC Hook came into being, it was one of those items that everyone wanted to have.

Demon Eater
Probably the best arcana in Dota 2, Shadow Fiend’s Demon Eater is the game’s coolest arcana that you can desire of.

Battlefury
You might be questioning why timebreaker was not included instead of battlefury. However, even though the worth of timebreaker is higher, bearing a battlefury on Faceless void just makes you believe you can own the crap out of the enemy team.

Platinum Baby Roshan
Probably the most expensive item in Dota 2, the platinum baby Roshan is very rare. You would be lucky enough just to see it games since the people who own the Platinum Baby Roshan are too busy admiring its beauty.

Golden Bracers
The most recent immortal and the first for Enigma has set up high hopes for Dota 2 players to get their hands on the Golden Bracers. Probably one of the reasons why Dota 2 players are spending like crazy on compendium points just to get their hands on these sparkling bracers.

Kantusa
Based on how common juggernaut has became a pick in competitive and pub matches, having Juggernauts best blade is a must. There is nothing every enormous or extremely sparkling about the sword however, just the simplicity of it makes the the most beautiful sword in Dota 2

Golden Gravelmaw
if you play as a support then probably you own the gravelmaw of Earthshaker. However, this beauty is not even close to any other when it comes to showoff.

Feeder Eater

Sniper’s feeder eater is the best thing you can have for the old man. Just how the name sounds, you know the weapon means business.

Iron Bear Set

Not the most expenisve item for Ursa, however; personally it is far better than the alpine stalker set. Just because something is rare doesn’t mean it has to be cool. On the other hand, Iron Bear set just turns Ursa into a monster on the run for blood.

Kunkka’s Shadow Blade

If you have a shadow blade on Kunkka then others already know that you have insane skills with the hero. furthermore, if you love kunkka, the item is just too beautiful to have.

Even though there are a tons of awesome items in Dota 2, there are just too many choices. The list covers the must have items for you and along with those that can only be desired of. Unless you scam people like crazy or consider yourself as a betlord some of these items would remain a dream for you.
