Items versus Skins

Just like Counter Strike, Team Fortress, or Warframe, you can also purchase items and skins for Dota 2.

There are 2 types of items: cosmetic items and power boosting items. Skins are part of the first category, as they have a purely visually enhancing role; skins do not affect the abilities and powers of Heroes.

Did you know? Contributions to Dota 2’s development consistently come from sources outside the main development team.

What are power boosting items? They give Heroes enhanced abilities and functions so they can perform better during a battle. Power/Ability enhancing items are not tied to a particular Hero, therefore you must pay increased attention when choosing your items. Some items won’t work on some Heroes, while other items can be combined for improved results. In short, these items provide additional benefits to Heroes that the leveling up process cannot.

Tip: A Hero can have a maximum of 6 items in his Inventory, and a maximum of 6 items in his Stash. If you get more items, they will be automatically dropped in the fountain.

Dota 2 Skins You Can’t Miss

There are a lot of skins to choose from in Dota 2. This is part of the game’s charm, and a lot of players go above and beyond to personalize their Dota 2 experience. Skins don’t interfere with the mechanics of the game, they are purely decorative.

1. Equipment Skins

Observer Ward costs 50 gold, while Sentry Ward costs 75 gold. The gold required to purchase wards was lowered from patch to patch, and now both Observer and Sentry Wards are easily affordable for players in all positions. However, warding is still associated exclusively with supports.

So, why do you buy wards? Observer Wards can be used to give vision over the area or to block neutral camps from spawning. Sentry Wards can also be used to block camps, but mostly they are used to destroy enemy Observer Wards and reveal invisible heroes or units.

1. How many wards to buy at the beginning of the game? Where to place them?

These questions might seem simple, but many players have troubles with early wards.

a) Ward in the middle lane.

This ward is out of the question, the most important to place at the beginning of the game. Having the ward in the middle lane will help your midlaner to control the lane better. Try to place it as soon as possible to avoid it getting spotted.

Tip: When you play for Radiant, there are several spots behind the trees, which you can use to place wards safely.

b) Ward in the safelane.

This is where many players, especially in low ranks, make a mistake. Having Observer Ward in the safelane is not a requirement. You need to get the ward for the safelane in two cases:

It is important to purchase a Sentry Ward if you are going to lane against a hero with invisibility, such as Treant Protector, Sand King, Riki and Bounty Hunter.

2. The first nighttime. A most important part of the game for the warding.

Lack of movement is the biggest issue of supports in low ranks. Lack of movement also equals lack of good vision around the map. The first nighttime is a time when heroes start to rotate around the map actively. This is why it is very important to provide good vision for your teammates, to avoid them getting ganked.

Ideally, you should aim to bring x2 Observer Wards right before the nighttime begins. Good support should be multitasking, so as nighttime starts at 5:00, you should try to take Bounty Runes and then place the first Observer Ward in the nearby cliff near the enemy tier-1 Tower, and then make a rotation to the middle lane to place the second ward there.

The better you get, the more you can adjust your ward positions, so it would be harder for enemy support to de-ward them.

While you place these wards, you should keep in mind that the enemy support wants to have the perfect vision himself as well. This is why it is very important to get yourself several Sentry Wards and check the most common warding spots.

3. Objective wards.

After the laning stage ends, you and your team should start playing around key objectives of the game, such as Towers and Bounty Runes.

To have an easier time sieging towers, it is very effective to place vision behind them.

Skills should be 1-2-2-1 on lvl 6 or if you want 1-3-1-1.
Dont max fisure because it costs more mana with every level and its enough to position yourself for totem or save teammates with just one level in it. Skill stats before maxing fissure because every 2 stats give you 10 more dmg. i usually max fissure after lvl 16

2 games ago with shaker, i was feeding 3 deaths to enemy team and i got so much flame from team “shaker carry useles, gtfo noob etc”.
Just remember that ONE good echo in teamfight can turn the game and item progresion.
At the end of that game i had 15/4/16 and got comends from whole team.
Most easy to come back with shaker because one good echo can make your item progresion jump over the roof

well i disagre with you just a bit first i go soulring and max pasive and fishure take enchtotem lvl 5 after soulring i get mana boots and blink then i rush daedauls around min 20-25 after that you get 2 choice here upgrade soulring in the bloodstone or get hearth then scepeter if needed if not monkey and bf last item so you get cleave with second skill aoe crits for1750 hp are not a joke at all

Dota 2 Roster Updates: November 2018

Dota 2 rosters tend to be ephemeral. While some players stick together, the five-player roster that lasts an entire season is rare. Tracking Dota 2 roster changes can be difficult because they happen so frequently.

Rosters this season register on the Valve site and are not penalized for swapping players until Dota 2 Pro Circuit (DPC) points are at stake. It costs the team 20% of their earned DPC points to swap out a player. Playing with a stand-in at a DPC event results in taking home only 60% of the earned points (a 40% penalty).

So what teams have already switched up their rosters? The short answer is plenty of them. Let’s review a few of the highlights:

Team Aster

• Following a disappointing run at ESL One Hamburg 2018, Deng “Dstones” Lei was removed from Team Aster. Gao “loveyouloveme” Yuan of For The Dream stepped into the mid position for the Kuala Lumpur Major as a “loan.”

Implication: Team Aster were the first team to qualify for a DPC event and make a roster change anyways. They placed 13-16 (effectively last) at the Kuala Lumpur Major, so there were no obvious, immediate gains from changing players.

Royal Never Give Up

• On November 5, following a third-place finish at DreamLeague Season 10, Royal Never Give Up swapped out Adam “343” Shah for Xue “September” Zhichuan.

Implication: There were reportedly some language barriers with 343 on the squad, so the new team should be more in sync. The team forfeited 20% of their DPC points to make this change.

Team Empire’s Two Teams

• Team Empire split into two teams, Team Empire Faith and Team Empire Hope. This saw players Vladimir “Chappie” Kuzmenko and Aybek “Naïve-“ Tokaev leaving the organization entirely. The new squads are Faith: Zaur “Cooman” Shakhmurzaev, Sergey Alexandrovich “G” Bragin, Yaroslav “Miposhka” Na >

Starting today Team Empire will be represented by two squads – Team Empire Faith and Team Empire Hope.

Implication: The intention seemed to be for Team Empire Hope to be the training team, but they earned a spot in the CIS Regional Qualifiers for the Chongqing Major by winning the Open Qualifiers while Team Empire Faith is nowhere to be seen….

Team Liquid

• One of the biggest shockers of the season has to be Team Liquid’s coach Lee “Heen” Seung Gon departing the squad after two years. Heen worked with the team through the build-up and winning run at The International 7 and stuck with them through a pretty successful first season of the DPC.

Implication: Heen’s departure was self-motivated, reflecting his dissatisfaction with his own performance. The five-player roster has been stable since January of 2017 when Maroun “GH” Merhej joined the team. Their successes since then make it unlikely (but not impossible) that the squad will have additional roster changes.

compLexity Gaming

• The North American squad gutted its existing roster following a 5-6th place result at the DreamLeague Season 10 Minor. After an inc >

Implication: CompLexity gave up nearly half of their points to the make roster changes. New players haven’t been announced yet for the team, but with Regional Qualifiers for North America for the Chongqing Major starting on November 28, news of the new roster should come any day now.

• CompLexity Gaming CEO Kyle “Beef” Bautista announced on November 23 that Galvin “Meracle” Kang Jian Wen, Yang “Deth” Wu Heng and Adam “343” Shah will join the team on a trial basis. Meracle is a familiar face in SEA, while Deth most recently played for Entity Gaming, but has yet to make a splash internationally. Adam previously played for compLexity earlier this year and had been coaching Fnatic prior to that.

Implication: No visa delays this time around. The team’s already ahead of the previous roster in that they’ve had time to play together in person before the qualifiers. Unfortunately, they were eliminated from the Chongqing Major Qualifiers.

Peach Bay

• While Peach Bay itself was never a contending team, for a few weeks it was the home of notable support player Ilya “Lil” Ilyuk. The CIS player has struggled to find his footing after being traded to Natus Vincere from Virtus. pro for Vladimir “RodjER” Nikogosyan during the middle of the first DPC season. For the second season, he made his own team, Odium, then gave Peach Bay a shot.

Implication: The team’s likely to reshuffle completely, part of the recycling of tier 2 players that happens between qualifiers. Where Lil will end up is a big question mark, but the player’s sure to draw attention to whichever team signs him.

OG

• After winning The International 8, the team took a much-deserved break for the start of the 2018-9 season. Now, Anathan “Ana” Pham is taking a longer rest, and OG will need to find a new carry player.

Implication: Will we ever see the TI8-winning squad together again? OG’s not released news about who their new carry will be, but whoever it is should become clear soon as the team’s set to participate in Chongqing Major qualifiers November 28-30.

• Per Anders “Pajkatt” Olsson Lille joins OG as their position one carry. Pajkatt is a true veteran of Dota who only won his first Dota 2 LAN while playing with OpTic Gaming last season.

Implication: Pajkatt may bring confidence and stability to the roster, which could help support Topias “Topson” Taavitsainen’s mid-play over the long term. However, the team struggled in the Chongqing Major Qualifiers. The Bucharest Minor from December 3-5 will be their next outing as a team.

Pain X

• In an announcement this week, the Pain X roster has parted ways with the organization. In doing so, they have dropped Adriano de Paula “4dr” Machado and picked up Kartik “Kitrak” Rathi.

Implication: The team’s become slightly less South American with this change. Brazilian player Rodrigo “Liposa” Santos is the only remaining SA teammate.

Mineski

• Highly respected Chai “Mushi” Yee Fung, a staple of the SEA scene, departed from Mineski on November 11. Twelve days later, on November 23, the team announced that Johan “Pieliedie” Aström joins the team as their position five player. Pieliedie most recently competed with Fnatic, finishing 13-16th at The International 8.

Implication: Swapping one seasoned veteran for another may not shake the team up enough to get the results they want. Mineski’ll be put to the test early as the Southeast Asian Regional Qualifiers for the Chongqing Major begin on November 25.

Dota 2 teams are quite fluid, so these rosters could see additional changes this season. Players are always looking to find their winning combination, so expect plenty more roster news as the season progresses.

DOTA 2: I Need A (Random) Hero

Dota 2 is the Valve-produced sequel to a Warcraft III mod, Defense of the Ancients. The original DotA is credited with being the first in the MOBA (multiplayer online battle arena) genre, and I give it credit for many long nights in the computer lab in college.

MOBAs are known for a lot of things, but one of them is definitely not friendliness to new players. The genre is complicated, and competition is serious. League of Legends has a championship series, and its Season 2 finals were the most watched e-Sports event in history – featuring a $1 million prize to the winning team.

That said, even e-Sports superstars were new once, and it sure wouldn’t hurt for Dota 2 to show a tiny bit of love to noobs like me. While there are lots of complicated parts of the game that are just inherently complicated, one that shouldn’t be is the hero selection screen. It assumes that you must be a pro if you’re picking a hero at random, but it would be an easy fix to make the game a little more accessible.

I need a hero

Dota 2 is a five-on-five game, with each player picking a hero at the start. As of the moment, there are over 100 heroes available! Here is the hero selection screen:

The upper-left is one team’s heroes, and the upper-right is the other team’s squad. Easy enough. There’s a nifty “Cover Flow” like structure in the middle with what looks like baseball cards for each hero. It’s not the most efficient way to display heroes (even Apple has given up on their Cover Flow), but there’s an option for a grid in the lower-right if you prefer. Let’s look a little more closely at the hero though, that’s what we really want to focus on.

Selecting a hero

In the upper-right, the hero’s primary attribute is listed. Strength, intelligence, or agility, this part is pretty straightforward. The one pictured here is strength, so there’s a fist, no big deal. Underneath the primary attribute, there are a few icons that list other general attributes of the hero. This hero is listed as “durable”, that he will “last longer in a teamfight”. This is great information to know, although the icons are something you’ll need to learn for sure.

Finally, each hero has thumbnails of their abilities listed at the bottom. This is what makes the hero unique, and it’s critical to playing them successfully. If you’re a pro, the tiny images are probably helpful, but for everybody else, these images are rather pointless. “Oooh this ability looks like an explosion!” You’ve got to hover over each one to get an idea of what it actually does. It seems like this information could have been fit on the screen somewhere.

Something not explicitly listed for each hero (although it is in a filter at the top) is if the hero is ranged or melee. If you ask me, that’s a good, basic piece of information that I want to know.

Randoms

Anyway, that’s not even the point of this article. For me, I like to experience a variety of heroes, so I make use of the “pick a random hero feature”. You even get a bonus 250 gold if you’re letting the game lock in your hero for you at random. So when you pick a hero at random, here’s what you get:

Notice the distinct lack of information here about the hero. The only way to even get the name of the hero that you got at random is by looking in the log. All that information that was listed above, it’s not on this page anymore. You can put items on your hero, sure, but that’s all.

Suddenly, being able to hover over those ability thumbnails seems like an awesome feature. You need to click the “return to browsing” button to get back to the screen with those details on it, though it was unclear to me exactly what ramifications that action would have. As it turns out, you can return to browsing heroes as much as you want, no big deal. I was a little nervous the first time I saw it, being afraid that I would lose my selection.

The “Pick” button with an X in it does NOT mean “lock in my pick”, however – it means let me select a new hero while taking a gold penalty. It does tell you that while hovering over, but a little more descriptive text right on the button wouldn’t hurt my feelings any. Like, “Repick”? Or maybe “Remove Pick”?

Okay, so maybe I’m the only person that was confused about these buttons. The point is though, I would appreciate a little bit more information on the random hero selection page.

Conclusion

It’s worth mentioning here that randomly selecting a hero is a terrible way for new players to get good at this game. It’s way more effective to pick one hero, and learn all the mechanics of that hero and the game at large (there’s a lot to learn) before branching out to more heroes. Also, there’s a “spin to random hero” action that just selects a random hero and doesn’t lock them in. This lets players have a chance to inspect the hero first, but there’s no gold bonus for this.

That said, I’m sure even expert players would appreciate a little easier way to see what abilities are on the hero that they just randomly selected – there are a lot of heroes, and unless you’re on the e-Sports tour, you might not have every ability memorized.

METHOD 2 is the recommended one as it changes the item name and icon in-game, as well as adds all the events (if that music pack has 1 more or more event triggers compared to the default one) to the music pack.

First of all, you need to download a program called GCFScape [nemesis. thewavelength. net] .

Open the link and proceed to download the latest one. (Installer or Archive)

Second, download this mod-installing pack from here:
mega. Dota 2 music deadmau5 strobe nz /#!2ZdxxDYa! XDURVkETEOO2In5bhMVgLVP0-9XxVhFSIjg-15DU6cY (remove the space from mega. Dota 2 music deadmau5 strobe nz and the /)

After downloading the Reborn Tool, extract them in a place of your liking.

(May vary depending on where your Dota 2 copy is installed).

Then, after opening pak01_dir. vpk, proceed to open the directory sounds > music.

Extract the folder you want depending on the music you want to hear in-game.

Here’s a list of some folders and their respective Music Pack names:

deadmau5_01 – Deadmau5 Dieback Music Pack
dsadowski_01 – Heroes Within Music Pack
dsadowski_02 – Elemental Fury Music Pack
jbrice_01 – Harmonies of New Bloom Music Pack
yaskar_01 – Dire Shred Music Pack
valve_ti4 – The International 2014 Music Pack
valve_ti5 – The international 2015 Music Pack

Extract them in a folder of your choosing.

You should see a list similar to this

Go to scripts > items and EXTRACT items_game. txt from the folder.

Now, create a directory called sounds\music and place the folder you have extracted from earlier inside, and then rename that folder to valve_dota_001.

Copy the sounds folder afterwards and place them inside the Dota 2 Reborn Mod Tools folder inside pak01_dir. And then go back and open “Create vpk-archive from pak01_dir folder” file.

You should get a new pak01_dir. vpk.

Now copy this pak01_dir. vpk to C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\dota 2 beta\game\mods (Create the “mods” folder).

Open up items_game. txt with notepad or Notepad++, then search for the music pack that you want to use (For example, I want to use Heroes Within.)

You should see something like this:

And now, after the numbers with quotes (like “11277”) copy EVERYTHING from the first before another quoted number (“xxxx”).

Then look up a music pack which you have (for example, I have The International 2017 Music Pack) and REPLACE the contents below the quoted number (“xxxx”) up until the end with the contents you copied from the music pack that you want to use.

Now save it and place it inside the Dota 2 Reborn Mod Tools folder inside pak01_dir. MAKE SURE TO CREATE FOLDERS TO MAKE IT SOMETHING LIKE scripts > items > items_game. txt

And then go back and open “Create vpk-archive from pak01_dir folder” file.

You should get a new pak01_dir. vpk.

Now copy this pak01_dir. vpk to C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\dota 2 beta\game\mods (Create the “mods” folder).

Proceed to C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\dota 2 beta\game\dota (Again, may vary) and open up gameinfo. gi with notepad or an editor of your choice. (I use Notepad++ but again, it’s not needed).

Scroll down and add these lines:

Game mods
Game mods
Mod mods

It should look like this:
