Beginner’s Gu > 02 Sep 2014 0 Games

In my previous article, I explained the basic premise of the game, as well as our first fundamental game concept: the “push”. Today we will be looking at Heroes and some of the basic mechanics surrounding them.

In Dota 2, you take control over a single entity known as a Hero. The control scheme is fundamentally identical to that of an RTS: left-click on the unit you wish to control, and right-click to move it around the battlefield or attack a target. You can issue specific orders using keyboard commands, such as “S” to stop. You view a portion of the battlefield from above via a top-down camera, and you can move the camera by moving the cursor to the edges of the screen. So far so good: if you’ve played any RTS such as Command & Conquer or Warcraft 3 you will be at least somewhat familiar with the fundamentals of controlling your Hero.

Here we start to deviate from traditional RTS: each hero has several spells or abilities they can use to have various effects on the game. To use them, you press the relevant hotkey (default Q, W, E and R), select an appropriate target with your cursor, and left-click to execute. There are several categories of target: no target, single-target, area-of-effect. No target abilities will trigger on button press without a target needing to be selected, and take effect on a location relative to your Hero. This can be a circle centered on your Hero, or a specific point situated at a specific distance and angle relative to your Hero’s current position. Single-target abilities require you to click on the target to execute the ability. This target can be an enemy Hero, an enemy unit or tower, an allied Hero or unit, or even yourself. Area-of-effect abilities, as their name suggests, take effect in a specific area and effect all units within that area. Dota 2 limited heroes botany This area can be a radius around the cursor, or a radius around the target point, or a specific shape around the target point, and so on. Luckily, abilities are accompanied by in-game text which explain quite clearly how the targeting specifics of each ability function. There are also passive abilities which do not require activation at all, and provide passive bonuses or triggered effects.

Heroes also possess three attributes or statistics which determine how powerful they are in various ways: these are Strength, Agility, and Intelligence. Strength affects your Hero’s hit points or “HP”, as well the rate at which your Hero regenerates HP (HP reflects the amount of damage your Hero can take before dying). Agility affects your Hero’s attack speed and armour, while Intelligence affects your Hero’s mana pool and rate of mana regeneration. Also, Heroes are linked to one ‘primary’ attribute, which provides bonus attack damage for your Hero on top of the bonuses listed above (for example, if your Hero is a Strength Hero ie. Strength is your Hero’s primary attribute; your Hero gains HP, HP regen and attack damage upon increasing his/her Strength. If your Hero increases his/her Agility, the only gain will be attack speed and armour).

The next point to cover is items. Items play a massive role in Dota 2, and require a lot more reading to sufficiently address their importance. For now, we will skim the basics: items are purchased using gold earned in-game, and each Hero can carry 6 items. Items provide bonuses to the following: attributes (Strength/Agility/Intelligence), statistics linked to attributes (HP, mana, damage, HP/mana regen, armour, attack speed), and other bonuses (critical hit chance, critical hit damage, life-steal, chance to bash/mini-bash, evasion, physical damage immunity, magic resist/immunity, movement speed, cleave). Items can also provide access to special abilities, for example the “Scythe of Vyse” grants the ability to “Hex” an enemy Hero and briefly transform him/her into a harmless critter unable to use abilities.

Dear CSGOLounge & Dota2Lounge community

We are pleased to inform you about the completion of our new system that will enable us to return the frozen items to our users!

The Lounge team presents Lounge Return – the return system of in-game items.

As of today, we have launched a new mechanism for the return of items, and within a month we plan to return up to 80% of the total frozen items. The return of items will be in accordance with our dynamic warehouse inventory. We will ensure the return of the same items, or items of equal value, that was frozen in the user’s account.

Below you can find links to Lounge Return:

Thank you for staying with us all this time! We will continue to actively work on improving our services so be sure to look out for upcoming site updates.

In May 2016 ESforce Holding invested in CSGOLounge and DOTA2Lounge as in a service of in-game item trade, match prediction and entertaining media platform. The service was not a betting platform. After Valve’s notification it was decided that the service would not accept item or real money bets. We plan to further develop the service as a media resource for video game and eSports fans and also to introduce an encouragement system for our game “Virtual coin bets” participants.

The CSGOLounge and DOTA2Lounge services have never had any tools for money input and output and never made profit as a betting platform. The only way to receive income was advertising. In the summer of 2016, after our Steam bots had been hacked, our platforms had to implement a small fee for a 3 month period in order to defend our bots and recover lost items. After Valve had banned our bots with in-game items which belonged to the CSGOLounge and DOTA2Lounge users, ESforce and Borewik made a decision to refund the items with their own means. The decision required a lot of time and work, and it is final.

We plan to start. Read more [dota2lounge. com]

Today we are announcing that we are closing our virtual items betting functionality with immediate effect. Depositing virtual skins and items in order to place a bet is not possible anymore.

At the moment we are working on a solution for items withdrawal, please stay tuned for an update on this topic.

Lounge will continue as an e-Sports entertainment and information platform with new features to be released very soon.

On behalf of Borewik, founder of Dota2Lounge & CSGOLounge
and the entire Lounges Team

Dota2Lounge and joinDOTA are hosting a 5-day challenge for The Summit 5 to see which of our users can come out on top in a Betting Challenge face-off! All the details inside.

A 5-day virtual betting extravaganza with rewards for the top 10 betters!

The Summit 5 will be the last major LAN event, besides StarLadder, on the calendar ahead of TI6 and with double Major winners world OG, Shanghai and Manila Major runners-up eu Team Liquid as well as Navi and Digital Chaos present, it’s going to be quite the show.

If you fancy yourself as a bit of a betting maverick when it comes to the professional scene, our Betting Challenge competition in partnership with the Dota2Lounge for the upcoming event might be right up your alley.

Instead of a month long grind to crown the greatest betting royalty, joinDOTA and Dota2Lounge are teaming up to set you the challenge of coming out on top in an intensive 6-day virtual betting competition for the duration of The Summit 5.

Prizes will not be given to the top 2 or even the top 3, but instead to ALL of the top 10 finishers. All YOU need to do is make sure at the end of The Summit 5 you are in the top 10.

Will you risk going all in on the Grand Finals to secure a top 3 spot, or will you play it safe and wait for your rivals to slip up? We leave that decision to you. Just remember you got to be in it, to win it. The competition is free to enter and all you need is an account here on joinDOTA.

  • 1st place – $35 Dota2Lounge Code
  • 2nd place – $20 Dota2Lounge Code
  • 3rd place – $10 Dota2Lounge Code
  • 4th-10th – $5 Dota2Lounge Code

– The competition runs from now until 9am CEST on the 18th July.
– Any bets put on a match taking place between the 13th July (tomorrow) and 9am CEST on the 18th July will count.
– That includes Summit 5 matches AND any other non-Summit match between the 13th July until 18th July at 9AM CET.
– There is a leaderboard that will track the scores.
– At the end of the competition the top 10 users on the The Summit 5 Betting Challenge leaderboard will each be awarded a prize (above).

It’s that day of the year and we couldn’t let it pass without looking at some of the possible love stories happening between the Dota 2 heroes.

From all the Dota 2 heroes that might display feelings for a special other one, Skywrath Mage’s love story with Vengeful Spirit (Shendelzare) stands out by far. It’s an intricate and sad affair, unfortunately. Some choose to interpret Skywrah’s in-game lines as a toxic obsession of his for Vengeful Spirit, some choose to believe that he is trapped in a never-ending tragic love story.

It’s extremely rare to find a character mentioned in another’s lore, and even more rare that both characters will speak of each other with in-game dialogue too. Shendelzare and Dragonus (Skywrath Mage) share these two features and this is why we chose today to speak about their love story rather than anything else.

While there is no reference in Venge’s lore story to Skywrath, it is his lore that connects them and shares some light over his guilt and failures. Dragonus was “sworn to protect and love her, warmly and unshakably”, while she was a Monarch in the Nest of Thorns. However, he failed in all these by diving into his arcane studies. While he was busy mastering the arcane powers, Dragonus missed all the obvious plots against his “secret love” and he couldn’t react in time when Shendelzare was attacked. Shendelzare was able to free herself from the assassin’s net by ripping off her wings. Without her wings Shendelzare couldn’t be accepted as Queen anymore so she vanished away, seeking vengeance. Aware of what happened, Skywrath can’t help her now, as going against the Nest would not help any of them.

Skywrath Mage’s in-game lines

Drawing First Blood
– I would give all this, and my blood too if it meant the Skywrath Scion were restored!

Leveling up
– In the name of my secret love I’ll use this power well.

Killing a hero
– All I do, I do in Her name.

Killing Vengeful Spirit
– My secret love dies with you.
– It was all I could give you, sweet spirit.
– Be released from your suffering, vengeful one.

Dying to Vengeful Spirit
– I die, but my love lives on.

Meeting Vengeful Spirit as an ally
– Ah, my heart, my wings, let us fly.
– Vengeful Spirit, let us work to see you avenged.
– May I join you in seeking your revenge?

Dying
– Still Her face I see!
– My death means nothing next to hers!
– My dreams, unrequited!
– Never to restore Her to the Nest of Thorns…!

Respawning
– Small suffering compared to that of some I know.
– If my death can help restore her to the Eyrie, it is worth every sacrifice.
– I live not for myself, dear one, but in honor of your loss.

Purchasing Aghanim’s Scepter
– I hold this scepter in another’s name.

Gaining Items
– Oh, dear Vengeful Spirit, I offer this treasure to you!

Activating Haste Rune
– Speed the day when revenge has been requited.

Losing
– Nevermore shall I fly to my sweet spirit’s side!

Victory
– After such a triumph, I know my dream of vengeance is at hand.

A more straightforward love story, although a past matter now, it’s the one between Juggernaut (Yurnero) and Templar Assassin (Lanaya). There is no mention of their relationship in none of these two heroes lore, but proof that they dated sometime in the past exists in the in-game lines. If we are to judge based only on what’s said in the game, Yurnero was the one ending the relation.

With the release of Call of the Bladeform Legacy – Juggernaut Arcana, Valve added a lot of new in-game lines attached to this item. This is when we heard for the first time Juggernaut saying “Yurnero is the past Lanaya, you need to move on” when meeting Templar Assassin on the battlefield as an ally. He also has a special line for her when she is in the opposite team. “Strange… we feel… sadness” he says when he kills Templar Assassin.

fan art by Jessdel

As nothing else indicates a possible love story between Juggernaut and Templar Assassin, Valve had their little bit of fun when they introduced Monkey King in the game and made him actually ask Juggernaut, when meeting him as an ally, if it’s true that he was dating TA.: “Juggernaut, is it true you and Templar Assassin used to be a date?” Monkey asks but he gets no answer.

fan art by Electra

Although not exactly a true love story, whatever goes between Slark and Naga Siren is just sweet. When Slark meets her in the game as an ally he says “Don’t listen to the critics, Naga, I love your voice”, which is, of course, a reference to her ultimate Song of the Siren.

It’s Valentine’s Day, and because we know that every Dota 2 fan is in love with the game deep inside his/her heart, we wish you happy and joyful day and we hope that one day you can queue with your significant other!

INTRODUCTION

______________________________________________________________________________________________
In the deepest, blackest pits of the ocean a fearsome and terrifying creature lurks. Bending the shadows to his will, few have seen his true form and none have lived to speak of it. For the shadows are his sanctuary, a place of empowerment and revitalisation. Bathed in this inpenetrable darkness he strikes unseen, every attack making him swifter and more powerful whilst weakening his enemy. An unbreakable leash awaits all who try to escape, leaving them at mercy of this horrifying phantom. By sacrificing a fraction of his soul, his pact with darkness allows him break even the most powerful bonds and curses. With echoes of the Great War reaching every corner of the earth, this creature, known only as Slark, has emerged from the depths to search for an ancient relic.
______________________________________________________________________________________________

Slark is adept in the art of assasination. He is the definition of glass cannon, utilizing unconventional tools to produce a reliable stream of ganks. Should you be stray of your lane, be wary of a pouncing from the Nightcrawler, for it spells death for you; his prey.

If something is not understood fully regarding the color code, please comment with your question / issue.

ROLE and POSITION

Slark is revered as the ultimate in hit and run tactics. His kit accentuates him to be an exceptionally filthy GANKER , an adequate late game SEMI-CARRY , and in some cases a CARRY . The Nightcrawler is an oddball in the terms of ganking, and very inflexible in build and playstyle, with that being said he is a very niche hero, and fills the role to the potential.

Assuming you bought your starting equipment as suggested and are wondering what to do now, you might want to cons >SOLO or DUO lane. Slark is most compatible in the SAFE lane to have that early access to the s >MID according to picks. Generally a TRI lane is a risky investment as he’d be your main carry if you followed this route.

BOTTLE and RUNES

Bottle: A bottle should be PICKED UP you plan on taking it solo to the MID lane; in which you should try to have full control of runes as you should with any solo mid hero with a bottle. Try to have a caster with a summon to scout runes out for you.

Illusion : You do not benefit much from this rune, this should only be PICKED UP in special cases.

Double Damage : This should be picked up EARLY and MID game, and avo >LATE game.

Invisibility : Generally not needed, but for a sure gank you may PICK UP .

Regeneration : SITUATIONAL , for the most part you will pick this up if no one needs it anymore than you do.

Haste : Use your better judgment, this will be PICKED UP to catch up to the pack or escape.

Since DOTA 2 is a free-to-play game, they’ve got to find ways to earn their money back; these skins help them do that. As of now, there are 118 heroes in DOTA 2. Now believe us when we say there are A LOT of skins for these heroes! Whether it’s a cheapo one or a mythic-level kind of skin, there’s always a market for them. An example would be the Arcana Zeus skin. Priced at around $20, this gorgeous skin was the pinnacle of what skins could become during the year that it was released. Since then, hero skins have become popular because players are afforded the ability to customize their favorite champions.

Couriers

Couriers in DOTA 2 are tasked with delivering items around the map for players. At times, they can be killed by the opposing team who managed to track them down. Besides the flying donkey courier that we know and love, there are all kinds of couriers to collect. There are more than 50 courier skins, each belonging in their designated tiers of rarity. A great example of how rare a courier can be is the War Dog skin. Released only back in Season 2 of DOTA and can only be obtained through chests, this courier costs up to a thousand dollars! This Ancient-tier skin has steadily gone up in value, and seeing how only a limited amount has been known to be surface around the net, it shouldn’t come as a surprise if the value reaches tens of thousands of dollars someday.

Equipment Skins

Besides hero skins, there are also equipment skins that you can sell. Although they don’t offer the same grandiose element that hero skins do, equipment skins instead focus on the weapons that the champions use. Two of the most expensive skins in this category are the Genuine Axe of Phractos for Axe and the Genuine Monarch Bow for Drow Ranger. Both of these mythical skins are no longer available for purchase in the official DOTA 2 store and can only be seen going up to around $1,800 in the black market these days. Another thing to take note of is that these skins aren’t as sought after as the hero skins, so it’s fine to not prioritize them.

LGD [ edit ]

At the end of 2009, FTD won the sponsorship of food company LGD, and thus renamed to LGD. With the leaving of several players, LGD fell into a dark period due to adaptation problems. well because the only way to get spells to do more damage is to buy like. aether lens, veil, or e-blade. It starts off being strong, but for the most part doesn’t scale well into the late game (excluding heroes like invoker, of course, who have been buffed to have insane amounts of power at all stages).

Magic is better in the early game, the drawback being that it doesnt scale. Right-click scales well into the late game and has several modifiers, the drawback being that you have to spend a long time building it up.

Typically good Carries are agility based because they get damage, attack speed and armor and they usually have some kind of passive or ability that lets items better stack on them to go with thier right click. Strength heros are usually good throughout game because of hp gain and usually tank and intelligence heros are good early game because of spells. Ofc some heros break this rythme but for the most part it holds true. Like an antimage 3 slotted is better than a medusa 3 slotted but antimage is a hard carry and medusa is harder carry and when 6 slotted will beat an antimage.

Intelligence heros do need more items IMO, lens was a good add but they really do lack a lot of late game items compared to right clickers.

I was wondering why Attack type Carries are the most dominant in the latter part of the game.. SF, PUCK and QOP are examples of carries that are dominant in the mid part of the game but as the game progresses they become more of a support on the late game.. I wish that Valve and IceFrog would make spells atleast to still deal significant dmg on the late on the next update or make an item to boost spell dmg and effects.. Maybe they should start by making a combination item of STAFF OF WIZARDRY and ROBE OF MAGI same to Sange and Yasha. Meracle dota 2 pause break .

Magic damage is based on levels and can have jumps between it’s damage like Zeus’ ult for example which goes up 100 per level then with aghs jumps even further. Physical damage (from attacks) scales in smaller jumps from attributes and stats allowing it to reach roughly the same amount but with greater time due to being dependent on items more than levels but with the added stat of attack time that 300 damage per attack occurs much quicker than that 300 damage from your spells which have cooldowns in between. Hence why nukers and supports are stuck mixed a lot.

Why Icefrog decided to do it this way? I have no idea although magic is often very powerful in video games and developers often have trouble balancing spells since the most common form of balancing them are cooldowns and mana costs. Maybe it just felt natural to have magic damage scale worse because handling attack speed is easier than messing with cooldowns because cooldowns vary greatly between spells. Although Icefrog is changing things a lot with magic damage with octarine core and aether lens so who know’s if magic damage will scale better?

At the end it depends on your build. As Puck for example your spells deal a good amount of dmg after all, it’s just your AA dmg that is not good enough and most heroes have the potential to heal a hella lot. Dota is a lot different then LoL, where your Abilitys scale with your AD and/or AP, here it’s just your DMG scales with your Attributes and yeah, thats it, some scale ♥♥♥♥ing much, others not that good.

There are a bunch of items you can buy to deal more damage with spells, but they have a downside aswell, Ghostblade or what it was called prevents you from attacking your enemy with AA, for a short amount of time but in late game a second can be fatal. Lens for example is worth for early to mid game, later I think only a Pudge would have much of it I guess, maybe I’m wrong but this Item is not worth it for most of the Heroes.

I just can say stuff to Puck, with a Dagon he is pretty nice to deal a lot of damage, try the Staff that Silences ppl aswell, because you deal 30% more damage to them in this time. As Puck you are a Initiator and a Disabler, your Silence the ♥♥♥♥ out of them, root them and you hope your team is fed enough to deal with them after you went full in, that’s what he is good for, sure you can buy stuff to make him strong, there is an Item that gives 330 damage after all, Dagon 800 Magic Damage aswell, your Q 300 and your W 200+ a Silence, ur Ult is the cherry on the top.

But at the end there will be a lots of Heroes that out damage your AA and your CC or your Spells at all, “sadly” this is how it works, you either have to outplay/outsmart them or else you are ♥♥♥♥ed up and the feeder of the team, which can happen sometimes.

After all I think everything is pretty decent in this game, sometimes yeah, maybe a little bit over the top, but for me I wouldnt change a bit, there are counter mechanics like what your team should look like against theirs and which Items you should buy to give a fed Pudge, CM, Bloodseeker, ES, PA or whatever a hard time.

go play LOL plz i remmeber when hemdinger used to kill 3 players with rockets 1 skill = 3 down late game xD so gameplay intensive oh and lux ulti had 30 sec cooldown and takes 50% ap ratio was fun times it covers full map clearing people , if i keep saying stuff about magic carries in lategame its never ending , in Dota magic carries do wonders yet they are still gameplay intensive and not a click skill to kill 5 people or insta kill certain carry becoz u have high ap , get the right items use them right and u going to be fine Refresher = 2 ulties 2 of everything sheep stick = disabled antimage Eul= potentiol full combo afterward

often hard carries have it hard early game they dont have much power early game so u have to keep farming what u have to do is to stop them from farming and getting those lategame items faster or rather just keep killing them and leting ur hard carry get buffed and end game on the spot

like hard carries supports has alot of early power they can dominate lanes and get kills early on the longer the game goes the stronger the hardcarry gets the weaker the support looks fact is supports skills are always relavent

midlane carries are often indepandent (SF, PUCK and QOP etc ) they are alot stronger then hard carries early game and they shine strong the whole game from min 1 to min 70+ its all about gameplay u dont expect to go fight Antimage as a QOP 1v1 lategame but u can do a good teamfight with ur other mates to make the kills and win the game

take some times learning about the game idea and the base design of the game before u think its needs fixing

people with strong magical skills in lategame
