Odds for a Dota 2 treasure chest published according to Chinese law, others to follow
Update May 2, 2017:In line with new Chinese laws, Perfect World – Dota 2’s Chinese publishers – have released the drop rates for bonus items in that game’s only current ‘treasure chest’.
After temporarily taking down the Chinese Dota 2 store last week (see original story, below) to comply with the May 1 deadline for publishing loot box odds, Valve’s Chinese partners Perfect World have published those odds for the only treasure chest currently for sale in China. That chest is theTreasure of the Dota 2 Asia Championships 2017. It’s guaranteed to drop one of six items, with a small chance of also dropping the Eyes of the King or the Armour of the Shattered Vanguard as a bonus item. Since one of the first six is guaranteed, it’s the odds for the bonus items that have been released.
Those odds were published on the Chinese Dota 2 blog. The rare Eyes of the King have a 6% drop chance, and the very rare Armour of the Shattered Vanguard a mere 2% chance. A link is also provided to a list of winners, which Reddit user OhMan_OhJeez speculates is intended “to prove the probabilities”.
Some on Reddit have expressed scepticism at the odds, hypothesising that they’ve been turned up for Perfect World’s Chinese version of the game. It’s not clear whether any guidance on loot box odds in the West can be extrapolated from this.

Original story April 29, 2017:With the May 1 deadline fast approaching, companies who operate online games in China are beginning to obey the new guidelines set forth by the Chinese Ministry of Culture. Tencent and Riot have already uploaded their lootbox odds for both League of Legends and Crossfire, with Valve also following suit with Dota 2’s online store.
In a post made on the Chinese Dota 2 site, Valve have stated that they will be briefly taking down the Treasures section of its store in order to meet “national requirements” put forward by the Ministry of Culture. According to one translation we tried on Babelfish, the store will be “off the shelf for the time being”, which can be taken to mean that players will be unable to buy more Treasures until the changes have been made. Alternate translations are available via other sites like Google Translate, but it is clear that Valve are enacting some change to adhere to the new loot box regulations.
You can see the change in effect if you currently compare the US and Chinese Dota 2 stores. In the Treasures section for the US store, all of the previous Treasures are viewable while on the Chinese store, only the 2017 Asia Championship Treasure is available for purchase. We’re not sure why the DAC 2017 is still being sold in China, but the lack of any other Treasures checks out with Valve’s recent statement.
As these changes are still being put in place for Dota 2, it’s fair to assume that Valve are not planning to sell loot boxes for the Chinese version of CS:GO anytime soon. If Valve does decide to eventually add loot boxes for that version, it will need to post its odds straight away.
It is unclear when Treasures will be back online, but it will most likely be after May 1 instead of before.
I recently purchased the highest model MacBook Pro and I’ve been trying to play some of my favorite game on it. Even if I turn all the graphic settings to off and put most settings on lowest, except for the rendering, the MacBook gets so hot that it nearly burns my hand.
I keep the resolution down to around 1680 X 1050.
I used OSX and Windows 7 Ultimate, the same problem happens on both operating systems.
The first 3 pictures are of my MacBook. With and without dota running and the third is the specs.
4-6 are of my desktop and specs.

Macbook Pro 13′ has an Intel HD Graphics 4000. which is not a very good GPU. It’s not even it’s own discrete graphics card. and performance will suck on it especially since the screen is such a high resolution. Unfortunately this is not upgradeable on a laptop. If you’ve bought the highest end MBP you certainly do have a decent discrete graphics card, but laptops are made to save power and prolong battery life rather than high performance gaming.
I suggest at the very least you turn down all graphics to low if you want to keep it at that resolution. The MBP doesn’t really have great cooling so you’d have to keep it on a good surface.
I’ve managed to make my 2010 13′ MBP run Dota 2 fine by just turning all specs to the lowest possible.
You should also note that the same game runs better on Windows than on OSX with exactly the same specs, so if you can, stick with running it on Windows.

The solution is to sell the MBP or not use it for gaming. They are designed to look good, last long and perform well for office use.

Denying is the act of preventing enemy heroes from getting the last hit on a friendly unit by last hitting the unit oneself. Enemies earn reduced experience if the denied unit is not controlled by a player, and no experience if it is a player controlled unit. Enemies gain no gold from any denied unit. All allied units can be denied once they fall below a certain percentage of health: creeps, and non-hero units at 50%, heroes at 25%, and towers at 10%. However, heroes can only be denied under special circumstances. Illusions and couriers cannot be denied.
To deny a unit, an attack command has to be ordered on the unit. Unless the “Right-Click to Force Attack” option is enabled, right-clicking the unit does not work, since right-clicking allies gives a move order, not an attack order.
A creep is not considered denied if a neutral creep (e. g. Roshan) deals the finishing blow and thus will give full experience to the enemy heroes.

Denying units [ edit ]
Besides couriers, every non-hero unit can be denied, including creep-heroes. They can be denied once their health falls below 50%. Denying an allied, non-player-controlled unit (lane creeps which are not taken over by players) grants 40% of its experience bounty to enemies within the 1500 experience range, instead of 100%. The denying player also gains 20% of the creep’s gold bounty when denying. Denying a player-controlled unit grants 0% experience to the enemy, and also none to the denying team.
Especially in the laning phase, denying allied lane creeps is important to create a gold and experience advantage. It can lead to having a level advantage over the enemy, opening up a chance to get a kill on them. Gold-wise, it cripples the enemy’s farming, slowing them down significantly, if they depend on farming gold. Creeps should be denied whenever possible, although getting last hits should be prioritised. Denying creeps is also important to shift the creep equilibrium towards closer to the own tower and away from the enemy tower.
Player-controlled units can be denied as well, but unlike lane creeps, most summons expire after a while, so that their bounties can be “denied” in other ways than killing them manually with attacking. For many small summons, this does not make much of a difference, but can still be done when possible. Especially when having multiple units, they can be used to deny each other. Bigger summons, like Warlock’s Golem and Spirit Bear , should always be attempted to deny, since they usually have significant gold and experience bounties. Denying these units is an excellent way to prevent giving the enemy free gold and experience when the unit is unlikely to survive.
Denying towers [ edit ]
Towers may only be denied once they drop to 10% health and below, yielding half its gold bounty to the enemy team and half to the denying team. Denying a tower also prevents an enemy player from receiving the 150-250 bonus gold for the last-hit.
Denying heroes [ edit ]
Heroes can also be denied under specific circumstances. A denied hero prevents the enemy from gaining any experience or gold from the kill, but still loses gold upon death.

Chen ‘s Holy Persuasion , Enchantress ‘ Enchant , Lifestealer ‘s Control and Helm of the Dominator ‘s Dominate can be used on an enemy ranged unit that has a projectile attack in flight, and results in the denial of an allied hero if the attack deals the finishing blow.
Oracle ‘s False Promise , if cast on an ally under the effect of an enemy Winter Wyvern ‘s Winter’s Curse that takes enough damage to die from allied heroes will be denied, rather than having the kill granted to Wyvern.

For those unfamiliar with Richard Lewis, he is one of the longest-standing eSports journalists who now primarily focuses on Counter-Strike: Global Offensive, and along with Thooorin is not one to shy away from speaking his mind.
There are multiple reports of what happened between the two, one version of events involves Loda headbutting Richard Lewis, something Loda denied on Twitter. While according to Loda he was strangled by the eSports editor “until admins pulled him away”.
“I generally act defensively when someone who shouldn’t be backstage pushes their forehead into my face,” said Richard Lewis in response. Regardless of the nitty gritty of what exactly took place – which we may never find out – it is clear that a confrontation did happen, and not a pleasant one.

All parties, DreamHack, Richard Lewis and Loda deeply regret that an environment existed in which this situation occurred, and that the confrontation escalated as it did. After installing Discord Overlay, restart your PC at least once. It might work after restarting your PC.
If even after restarting your PC discord overlay is still not working then make sure that you are using Discord Overlay and Playing Game as an administrator.
If Discord Overlay still doesn’t work then reinstall and reconfigure it step by step as I have shown in above How to turn on Discord Overlay on PC.

Disabling the overlay for a particular game
If you would like to disable the overlay for a certain game (because you do not want it in that particular game, or that game has issues with the overlay), and do not want to disable the overlay altogether, put a file named nooverlay (without any extensions) in the same folder as the game executable is located. This will tell Mumble that you do not want the overlay in this particular game. Current releases of Mumble also support black-/whitelisting from the client itself (Settings->Overlay, make sure advanced is checked).

Sometimes I would like to play DotA 2 with my friends but the internet connection are needed even that we are playing against bot. The internet connection in my country is not very stable sometime and we just wish to play it through the LAN so nobody would face the lag issue.
Is there anyway I can play against bot with my friends through LAN network?

Apparently since the 7.22 patch the below method doesn’t work anymore and a LAN game is now impossible
Yes, it’s possible, but not that easy. It requires you to use steam offline mode and dota 2 cheat mode.
This guide is the easiest to use source on this. I’ll copy the content now:
Before your friends can connect to you, you will need to find out your ip address and port number. You should do this before any step and it will be at the top because its better to have everything in front of you, instead of getting it half way through this.
Easy way to do this, is to: click on your bottom left windows button key. Type in the search bar for programs: cmd once that is opened (should be small window that is black with white writing) you want to type in ipconfig and the ip address you want to write down is the: IPV4 Address.
Note that this is the network IP address, not your internet ip address, which you can get by visiting whatismyip. com or a similar site. For Linux check here and for Mac check here.
Turn your steam client into offline mode.
right click dota in the library and click on properties
click on set launch options
type in: – console then click ok
open dota and hit the \ key to bring up the console
type in map dota. Port game dota 2 bsp sv_lan 1 sv_cheats 1 dota_bot_set_difficulty 0,1,2,3,4
you only put one number in here and the different numbers are the difficulties from 0 being passive and 4 being unfair. Note you can only have 1 type of difficulty bots and not multiple.
( to get your friend to connect at this point, they must follow steps 1 up to 5 first)
So get your friends to open up the console (to have them already opened and prepared to hit enter with what it is they need to type first is so much easier then trying to get them all to type at that once exact moment. This is of course optional.
and have them type in: connect IP address:port number
here is an example: connect 192.162.1.8:27015
then once they are on a screen with the map loaded, get them to type in jointeam good/bad, one of those for what side, good being radient and bad being the dire.
after they have done that or at the same time you can type in jointeam good/bad for whatever you want to play on.
There will be a game timer and you and your friends at this point should be in hero select on the teams you chose. After the countdown is 0 it will auto fill empty slots with bots or if you want to start earlier you can just type in the console: dota_bot_populate and will auto fill after that.

Put the TCP and UDP ports for your game in the matching boxes in your router.
Frequently you have to reboot your router for the changes to take effect.
