Valve has revealed that this year’s Dota 2 seasonal event will be Wraith-Night, a new time-limited mode where players work to resurrect Skeleton King from his trance. “Sadly, during his rite of transformation, Your King will be unable to play a role in worldly affairs,” says Valve. “But don’t lament the absence of Your King. Instead, play your part in his restoration! Each soul collected during Wraith-Night will count toward his Second Coronation! Long live the Wraith King!”
Playing Wraith-Night will give players an opportunity to collect Phantom Fragments, which can be traded in various amounts for lockless reliquaries. Players can also purchase the Wraith King’s Favor, which will trigger a chance for the game to drop Shining Fragments. “Collect enough Shining Fragments and obtain a Wraith-Night Ossuary, a treasure box containing unique gems and rare, socketed items, or cash in your Shining Fragments toward a recipe to craft a Relic of the Wraith King,” says Valve.
The update, set to go live today, also brings a new hero, Legion Commander, alongside a recruit-a-friend option, a refined path into the game for new players, and ranked matchmaking for experienced ones. The updates from patch 6.79c have also been applied, which adds Slark and Huskar to Captain’s Mode, among other updates. You can read more on Valve’s site.
Update 12/10/201313 — 16:00 In what might be called “foreshadowing,” something has gone wrong with the Frostivus holiday.
The official website is now updated to say, “By decree of the only king that matters, Frostivus is cancelled.” The only king that matters is likely either the Skeleton King (who was recently removed from the game for “pressing ceremonial reasons,” but this could also signal the unveiling of the rumored Wraith King.
Tomorrow, on day three of the event, we’ll likely have more concrete details on what’s in store for players.

Valve has unveiled its Dota 2 holiday mode for this year.
A new website introduces 2013’s seasonal Frostivus holiday. “Collect bright winter berries and sprigs of fir,” says Valve, “and twist them together into mementos for family and friends,” suggesting that the game’s recently introduced crafting mode will play a part in this year’s event.
Last year’s peaceful Frostivus was “cancelled” due to a greevil invasion, birthing The Greeviling. The holiday mode saw players transform into customisable greevils, with unique abilities, and compete against the other team to wipe out enemy greevil camps and reclaim the stolen Frostivus presents.
But it’s highly unlikely anything untoward will happen again this year, Valve says. “However you choose to celebrate the season, the byword is relaxation. There is nothing more to worry about, nothing you need to do.”
“Nothing can possibly go wrong.”
But make no mistake: season events in Dota 2 are no joke. Last month, Valve admitted that it underestimated the demand for a return of its Halloween event Diretide, with the company bringing the mode back in a subsequent update.
Valve also recently announced that it will be including a ranked matchmaking mode in a future Dota 2 update. “This mode is aimed at experienced players,” the company said, “who want to play in a more competitive environment and know their matchmaking rating (MMR). Dota 2 matchmaking has always calculated MMR and used it to form matches; in ranked matchmaking we make that MMR visible.”

As this is a bug tracker and not a discussion forum the existence of the issue is sufficient for Valve to see it. New issues will be checked by a Valve dev and marked reviewed if they are kept. This means that Valve is aware of the issue and the issue will stay open as long as Valve believes it hasn’t been fixed. There won’t be further comments on the issue unless there are specific questions or information to convey. In particular it isn’t possible to give up-front timeframes for when things will be fixed. There is no need to post on open issues that they have not been fixed as Valve will close issues when they are expected to be fixed.

If it has not been reported, create a new issue with at least the following information:
- what platform this is occuring on: Linux or Mac;
- a short, descriptive title;
- a detailed description of the issue, including any output from the command line;
- steps for reproducing the issue; and
- your system information.
Please place logs either in a code block (press M in your browser for a GFM cheat sheet) or a gist.
Your system information must include:
- your Linux distro or Mac OS version
- if Linux, your Desktop/Window Manager
- if Mac, the model and revision of your hardware
- your Graphics card info (manufacturer, card version), any and all graphics driver versions
- anything else that you think may be useful (mouse/keyboard, filesystem type, etc).
The preferred and easiest way to get this information is from Steam’s Hardware Information viewer from the menu ( Help -> System Information ).
Once your information appears: right-click within the dialog, choose Select All , right-click again, and then choose Copy . Paste this information into your report, preferably in a code block or a gist.
Crash dumps / Failure report files
Your Steam system information may have a Failure Reports section which indicates failures that were recognized and submitted to Valve. If a failure report has a crash ID it was recorded at Valve and will be available to Valve developers. If the crash was discarded it means that other similar reports are already available. If there are no failure reports in the Steam system information then the failures are not being caught by Dota. Dota 2 mac client node This may indicate a system problem or a class of failure that can’t be captured. On Linux you can look in /tmp/dumps to see if there are crash dump files there. Also on Linux you can look at the tail of the dmesg output after a crash to see if Dota is mentioned. On macOS you can look at system crash information to see if there is a report of a failure.

Pudge the Butcher is a hero from Dota 2. He is a Strength Dire hero.

In this cursed realm, nothing can decay or decompose; no corpse may ever return to the earth from which it sprang, no matter how deep you dig the grave. Flocked by carrion birds who need him to cut their meals into beak-sized chunks, Pudge the Butcher hones his skills with blades that grow sharper the longer he uses them. Swish, swish, thunk. Flesh falls from the bone; tendons and ligaments part like wet paper. And while he always had a taste for the butchery, over the ages, Pudge has developed a taste for its byproduct as well. Starting with a gobbet of muscle here, a sip of blood there. before long he was thrusting his jaws deep into the toughest of torsos, like a dog gnawing at rags. Even those who are beyond fearing the Reaper, fear the Butcher.

Pudge is one of the most difficult heroes to play well, but also one of the most rewarding. His Meat Hook skill is extremely deadly but difficult to master. A well placed Meat Hook will snag an enemy hero and drag them to Pudge, dealing damage along the way. Once the target has been hooked, Pudge can use his other two active skills to finish them off: Rot is a toggled Damage Over Time skill which affects all nearby enemies but also Pudge himself. (Pudge must be careful when using Rot, which can quickly drain his life and make him easy prey for enemies.) To stop his target from escaping or resisting, Pudge can use Dismember-a short-range skill that deals damage over time and completely immobilizes the target. When used in succession, these three skills make Pudge a dangerous opponent, although he may not look like much of a threat. To complement his risky maneuvers, Pudge enjoys a passive skill called Flesh Heap. Flesh Heap provides magic resistance, which reduces the damage he takes from Rot, and adds a minor but permanent bonus to his strength every time he kills a unit.

With three fantastic Majors, one of the best Internationals ever and countless tournaments in the books, 2016 has been a fantastic year of Dota 2. But in a year filled with inconsistent results, which players emerged as the best across the entire year? Presenting your Top 10 Dota 2 Players of 2016.
10. Verros “Maybe Next Time” Apostolos – Ad Finem exploded in popularity at The Boston Major due to their improbable run to the Grand Finals. Much of it was thanks to the significant contributions of Maybe Next Time, as he kept his team alive and in contention through his support skills. With his team at the forefront of Dota heading into 2017, Maybe Next Time has to prove that Boston wasn’t just a one time deal.
9. Zhang “xiao8” Ning – Though he is far removed from winning TI4 with Newbee, xiao8 has proven that he is still just as capable of leading teams to success in 2016. As both an offlaner and support, xiao8 provides a sturdy foundation with which LGD Gaming and LGD. ForeverYoung could build around.
8. Zhou “bLink” Yang – In a year where Chinese teams struggled, Wings Gaming stuck together through trying times and won the Aegis of Champions at TI6 for their efforts. Wings’ mid laner bLink deserves much of the praise for why his team succeeded, and his mid lane aggression destabilized his opponents and created plenty of openings for Wings. Dependable and with a large hero pool behind him, bLink is one of the best players on Wings Gaming.
7. Yeik “MidOne” Nai Zheng – Though he only began his professional career last December, MidOne was one of the main reasons why Fnatic succeeded throughout the first half of 2016. A breath of fresh air on a team that had routinely struggled to reach the top, MidOne became known for his efficient farming and skillful use of heroes such as Templar Assassin and Invoker. Thanks to his efforts, Fnatic claimed an impressive fourth place at TI6 before he joined Team Secret. Thankfully, his time on Secret has shown that there is still plenty of room to grow for the young player.
6. Saahil “UNiVeRsE” Arora – UNiVeRsE is the most consistent offlaner in the world. No matter what hero he plays or what his team’s composition is, you can always count on UNiVeRsE to start the plays that send his opponents reeling. That said, his first half of the year was marred by his time on Team Secret, who promptly faltered and collapsed at The Manila Major. It is on EG where UNiVeRsE has seen his greatest success, and where he will continue to see it going forward.
5. Andreas “Cr1t-” Nielsen – Cr1t – was already one of the best supports in the world, with two Major titles behind him, before he surprised many by joining EG in August as their new captain. While he still has a long way to go, Cr1t – has successfully taken the reins from ppd on EG and is now at the head of the strongest North American team in Dota. 4. Aliwi “w33” Omar – Arguably the best Invoker in the world, w33 dominates the mid lane, though his future was in doubt after he was kicked from Team Secret a few weeks after he won The Shanghai Major. Fortunately for w33, Digital Chaos has allowed him to continue to grow and develop into one of the strongest mid laners in the world. Though DC faltered in the Grand Finals of TI6 and placed in the Top 4 at The Boston Major, w33 remains a force to be reckoned with heading into 2017.
3. Zhang “faith_bian” Ruida – Faith_bian’s strong performances across a wide variety of offlane heroes has helped propel Wings Gaming to the top of Dota 2. Aggressive to the extreme, faith_bian is one of the best roaming gankers in the world, always aware of when to precisely and effectively take apart his opponents.
2. Jesse “JerAx” Vainikka – JerAx has been the best support throughout 2016, setting up plays that turn the tide of games with frightening consistency. His Earth Spirit is legendary, and he retains one of the larger hero pools among supports. Despite this, he was unable to win a Major title on Team Liquid, whom he had played with for the better part of the year. It was only in joining OG that JeRax secured his first Valve title, which is likely to be the first of many. Whether on Liquid or OG, JerAx has proven to be a great initiator and a dependable support.
1. Amer “Miracle-” Al-Barkawi – Miracle – is leagues ahead of every other player in Dota 2. There has been no other player throughout the year who has left as big of an impact as him in individual play, no matter what hero he chooses. Though he did participate at the most recent Major and fell short of glory at TI6, one Major title and three tournament wins is nothing to scoff at. If anything, his limited appearances in the back half of the year mean that he still has room to get better – a sobering thought for Miracle-‘s opponents.

it seems like carry being carrying is back a bit too instead of the of The solo mid carrying everything.
Still its a bit of patches to go to get back to the good old days where you could play varius diffrent styles and still have a 50/50 shot at winning instead of The play carrying solo mid with husk or wr (metashit) or only 5% change to win.
Dead game would be game that has no player base and no tournaments whatsoever, there is no acctual dead. Dota 2 is not even close to dead and new players are always emerging, maybe young players are not used to dead games so they think game is dead even it is not. Getting online, having 100 active friends in all mmr ranges is kinda alive. Maybe problem is on higher levels, or on pro level, but it is understandable, since not many players can achieve that level and join that club, so it seems dead specially when some of them stop playing or leave for other game.
Personally I think it has already reached its peak at TI5 and now slowly declining
If decline is case, we would see dota 3 coming out, not new patches. It might be normal that there is loss in interest between two TI’s. Let’s wait and see what happens when hype kicks in. Game slike Dota 2 that are so much releveant in e-sports and have such huge amount of money involved do not just ‘die’.

But it is still dota2 with new interface. Sorry, didn’t know it counts as new dota game. Rank system has it flaws for sure, game meta changes, some heros from top tier picks go back to mid or low, it is how it is. You can always say good bye to dota and come back whenever you like, start from 0 and find way to enjoy it, but I doubt it will die so easily.
Meta sapm has been present since forever. Nightmares of 6.57 DP and Necro still haunt me. Morph in 6.64. Zombie post rework. etc.
Game was actually dying during reborn beta, and post reborn release due to people being unfamiliar with the main menu, hipsters complaining that the old one was better (when it’s NOT, the old one was super basic, good, but too basic)(arcade mode is amazing) and all the bugs and glitches that came with reborn dropped the population, now numbers are high again.
I don’t get how people can say TI 2 and 3 had more players, uh, it didn’t, I didn’t play back then, but the statistics are there, game has grown ALOT. Prize money for tournaments is higher, MOBAS are STILL ON THE RISE (hence why tons of moba clones are coming out like crazy) PC gaming is on the rise (Dota or counter strike usually being the first games people hear of on Steam) Also, when the International 2011 was happening, Twitch was barely being born, and the game didn’t get nearly as much coverage back then as it does now. (seeing as Twitch is now main stream, and everyone has a Twitch account these days)
Many many casuals play games for the first time cause they thought it looked interesting when watching it on Twitch, Twitch has done ALOT more for gaming than people think.

Looks 2 me like the game is just growing! Sure some people have given up on the game, but they should be ignored. There’ll always be players passionate about dota, just as there’ll be people who are shall we say less keen on the game. I normally play by myself now, as my friends have started playing less or moved away, but I still have a gr8 time every game! There are some complete dickheads but a lot of gr8 people & there always will be.
Dying or otherwise, it’s a personal choice 2 play the game.

Мы сделали панель управления героем меньше, чтобы добавить к ней новый раздел талантов и ячейки ранца. Кроме того, теперь информация о выбранных юнитах отображается в выпадающем окне слева, чтобы вы могли следить за игрой, не теряя своего героя из виду.
Новый раздел лавки и управления курьером
Выбирайте из популярных предметов для вашего героя или используйте классическую раскладку, чтобы разнообразить устоявшийся выбор артефактов. А если вам понадобится помощь, обратитесь к руководствам от сообщества, они совсем рядом.
Верхняя панель и мини-карта
Включите упрощенный фон мини-карты, чтобы было легче за ней следить. Вы так же можете настроить её размер и включить выделение построек или существ, к которым телепортируетесь.
Зажав клавишу ALT, вы увидите здоровье, ману и возможность выкупа своих союзников. Также вы можете направить способность на нужного героя, нажав на его портрет.
Больше не нужно искать укрытия у своего фонтана лишь ради изменения пары настроек. Изменяйте всё необходимое, не покидая карты!

С помощью боковой панели вы сможете получать информацию о других героях, существах и постройках, не теряя из виду своего героя. Но эту опцию можно и выключить.
Теперь расход маны на использование предметов отображается прямо на их иконках в инвентаре, так что вы не забудете, сколько маны нужно оставить на такой важный Force Staff.
Динамическая структура нового интерфейса позволила нам сделать его уникальным для некоторых героев: к примеру, показать силу и ловкость у Morphling в виде ползунка.

Лавка и курьер

Теперь количество предметов, число которых ограничено, отображается прямо на их иконке в лавке.
Нажмите клавишу ALT, чтобы увидеть состояние своего выкупа (а также избыток или недостаток требуемого золота) над кнопкой лавки.
В пылу сражения бывает непросто управиться с курьером. Если вы прервали чью-то доставку предметов или просто хотите направить курьера в нужное место, воспользуйтесь новым меню, открывающимся правой кнопкой мыши.
Мы изменили кнопки управления курьером и добавили возможность улучшить его, не открывая лавку.
