Training

Training missions are tutorials that offer a single player experience in the form of a campaign. So far, its purpose is mainly for teaching the player about the basics of the game in a scripted scenario. Completing the training missions will grant players a free Gunslinger Set for Sniper , as well as access to the Archronicus lore book.

Contents

Dota Overview [ edit ]

Lore Rewards A quick study of the game in action. Archronicus pages

This is a short video to acquaint new players with Dota 2.

Mechanics I: Davion, the Dragon Knight [ edit ]

Lore Rewards In a lonely wood lies the camp of Dragon Knight, slayer of the great winged Slyrak, and possessor of skills beyond mortal knowledge. Yet his true potential still lies before him. The time has come for him to take up arms and train for the final battle. Archronicus book

This first quest features Dragon Knight as the playable hero. The goal is to defeat an enemy hero, Razor , with the help of Keeper of the Light . This quest acts as a basic tutorial on controlling a hero. This tutorial teaches:

  • Moving the hero
  • Moving the camera
  • Attacking
  • Leveling up skills
  • Using skills
  • Buying items
  • Using items
  • Obtaining gold
  • Getting Last Hits

Mechanics II: Sharpeye, the Sniper [ edit ]

Lore Rewards A small form moves quietly along the trail, weapon in hand. Among the Keen Folk, he is a legend, the greatest shootist there’s ever been. But it will take more than a sharp eye to survive the coming battle, and this Sniper from the highlands has much to learn if he’s to fulfill his destiny.

This second quest features Sniper as the playable hero. The goal is to defeat an enemy hero, Tidehunter . This tutorial teaches:

  • Ranged combat
  • Area of Effect Abilities
  • The Minimap
  • Towers
  • Couriers and the Stash
  • Using Town Portal Scroll

Lane Introduction: Sniper vs Axe [ edit ]

Lore Rewards Long is the road to victory, and harsh its travels. Sniper will need to develop a keen understanding of the towers, and those who defend them, if he is to survive the great battle that is to come.

This mission places the player as the hero Sniper once again. The objective is to destroy the enemy’s m > Axe . The player is restricted to playing in the Mid-lane only, a wall appears when attempting to leave the combat area. Last hit challenge dota 2 reborn graphics This tutorial explains:

  • Starting Item Build
  • Towers: Attack and Defend
  • Combat: Fighting in a Lane

Middle Lane Practice: Know Thine Enemy [ edit ]

Lore Rewards Once per generation, the great forged wheel-books turn slowly in the wind and moan out tales of an age long forgotten. But now a strange wind blows, and the forged books sing like nothing heard before—a song of conflict and a looming conflagration, the prophesy of a war that will sweep down from hidden planes and engulf the world in its fire.

This quest gives the player the freedom to choose their own hero from a selection of 20 heroes, and pits them against an AI controlled bot from the same limited pool. The mission is the first and second mid lane towers. Players are free to move around the map, benefiting from Runes and Jungling. The shop is also unrestricted, allowing the player to purchase any items they choose. Players must complete this mission 10 times with different heroes in order to receive credit. This mission introduces:

  • A Limited Hero pool
  • Towers: Attacking and Defending Tier 1 and Tier 2
  • Items: All Unlocked

Play vs Bots: Training Skirmishes [ edit ]

Lore Rewards As the moon stones glow and wheel-books wail, the barrier between the planes wears thin. Out of this tattered fabric of reality, strange forces are revealed. Myths and legends, flesh and blood; all yearn for the chance to train for the coming battle.

This quest sends the player into a full 5v5 game with AI controlled Allies and Enemies, with a hero selection of the same limited 20 hero pool as previous missions. The objective is to destroy the opposing team’s Ancient. Winning a single game will unlock the next mission, however, 5 matches with different heroes is required in order to complete the mission.

Play vs Humans: The War Begins [ edit ]

Lore Rewards It is a contest of wills and wits, strength and courage, reflexes and strategy. Shards of the Mad Moon glow bright in a shattered sky, while below battle lines are drawn. Somewhere in the distance, the great horn sounds. The steel clangs. And so it begins.

This final mission pits the player along with 4 other human players, against 5 human players Limited Heroes match. The goal is to destroy the enemy Ancient, while defending your own. Players must complete this mission 10 times with different heroes in order to receive credit.

Last Hit Training [ edit ]

Lore Rewards The Hero who can acquire the most gold will almost certainly triumph. It is important to understand how to acquire gold, and how to keep it from the pockets of your opponents.

This training mission teaches the user on how to last hit, and deny, effectively.

Last Hit Practice [ edit ]

Lore Rewards The Hero who can acquire the most gold will almost certainly triumph. Only through extensive practice can a Hero master the art of last hitting.

This is a bonus mission in which the player can choose any hero and select any lane. The goal is to get as many last hits in the space of 10 minutes, while an AI hero attempts to deny you. This mission also shows you the number of last hits you have gained, the number of creeps that have died, and your percentage of successful creep kills. Higher scores will earn trophies in the Gallery of Triumphs.

Guided Bot Matches [ edit ]

Lore Rewards Join and battle against AI-controlled heroes as you learn to play Dota. Last hit challenge dota 2 reborn graphics We’ll guide you step by step through every stage of a full match as you build your hero into an unstoppable force.
  • Luna Tutorial

3. League gameplay rules

3.2. All league matches are held on a European server.

Wonder if Liquid is aware of this, it’s gonna be pretty hard for them to win games with 3 players on 250 ms. Admins had better give them some compensation in the form of side and firstpick.

They Should, since they got invited the rules were there before and they accepted to play (if not it’s Tournament’s fault to not expose the rules in time and they could decline)
, it’s gonna be pretty hard for them to win games with 3 players on 250 ms.

It’s gonna be as hard as it is now, nothing will change.
Liquid has 3 major problems that they need to resolve to start performing like a “tier 1” Team (wich i think they arent)
-Better Drafts and strategies, they play almost the same and have only a few heroes, so they get figured out
-Better Decision making, they really lack some good decisions, being individual or as a team, they take wrong paths or do strange thinks that often lead to loss of advantage
-They do a lot of Bad Calls ingame (i really dont know who does it so i cant say anything), but it feels like they’re not thinking as 1, or have some differences on what to do sometimes. (It’s a matter of time and adjustments).

Any of those things have any correlation with ping/ms, Liquid doesnt lose games because OMG SO RTZ WHAT A MOVE thanks for that 0.5s delay. They need to improve in other areas not in that.

Admins had better give them some compensation in the form of side and firstpick.

Why would they? There’s no point to give a team “advantages” when they should be fully aware of what they’re gonna play and the conditions to do so, and they should, in fact “prove them” that they’re capable of playing with that ping and “rekt” the other teams. Giving them advantages or pick/side things its just gonna mess with the whole environment of the tournament.

AS I say this, im not a hater, nor a fan, I’m just a guy who watches a lot of DotA and thinks that obviously ping can affect games, but you cant say you cant win because of the ping when obviously there’s a lot of things lacking in your whole gameplay.

Yeah, well, it happens to everyone once in a while, but the thing is, that your mentality needs to shine there, and thats where you see the strenght in mind that some players have, just like coming back with a huge fight, farming under pressure, or any of those things can compare mentally to the challenge of playing with high ping, and any player should try to adapt.

Frustrating is nothing sometimes , it gets worse.

Dota 2 best chronosphere miniatures

Dota 2 best chronosphere miniatures

Dota 2 best chronosphere miniatures

Dota 2 Interactions is a repeating column which will focus on the weird interactions arising from the numerous skills of the 115 heroes

This is the first post of ‘Dota 2 Interactions’ that we will be doing here at VPEsports. The main goal of this column is to familiarize players with the possibilities in particular scenarios arising depending on what heroes are present. The first column will be based on Faceless Void’s Chronosphere!

1) Enrage can be activated inside Chronosphere when Ursa has an Aghanim’s Scepter

There’s a reason Ursa’s Aghs was popular once upon a time. Because it got him out of trouble a lot of times. And that includes from Void’s Chrono. The effect on an enemy hero inside the Chrono is ‘Stunned’ and not ‘Silenced’ which enables Ursa to activate Enrage, which is a strong dispel. This does not happen without the Scepter, so don’t go hunting for that Void thinking he can’t kill you. The Enrage mitigates most of the damage and makes it a wasted Chrono.

2) Chronosphere does not stop Omnislash

This one is something most of us know. If Juggernaut Omnislashes a Void, using the Chronoshpere will make no difference whatsoever!

3) Wukong’s Command Soldiers keep hitting targets inside the Chrono

Although Chronosphere makes Monkey King immobile, if Wukong’s Command has already been laid out, his soldiers keep on dishing out damage inside the Chrono. So it might not be the best idea to Chrono a Monkey King inside his ult, especially if he has the level 25 talent for +100 armor. Void’s physical damage will be negligible but at the same time, the Wukong soldiers literally be beating him down with a stick!

There is a positive side to this as well though. If Faceless Void and Monkey King are on the same team, it is a great way to keep people inside the ring.

4) Borrowed Time can be activated inside Chronosphere

Abaddon’s ultimate, Borrowed Time triggers when the HP reaches a certain threshold value. But if used actively, the skill is a strong dispel and much like Enrage, can be activated inside the Chrono. The good thing is, Abaddon does not need an Aghanim’s Scepter and he literally gains health in the Chrono!

5) Phoenix with an Aghanim’s Scepter can save someone from inside a Chronoshpere using Supernova

Phoenix’s upgraded ultimate can save an ally and bring him back with full HP, provided the Supernova egg is not destroyed. The cast range for the save is 500, and it can be cast on someone inside Chronosphere. The Chronoshpere radius is 425, so making a save in the original Chronosphere is not the toughest thing in the world. With the increased AoE, the radius becomes 600 so it may be a bit tougher to pull off the save, although not impossible.

6) Tusk Snowball CANNOT save anyone caught in the Chronosphere

This was possible earlier. If someone was caught at the edge of the Chronoshpere, Tusk could just Snowball and take em’ in! But that was disabled in, I believe 6.86. Tusk can no longer pickup anyone inside the Chronoshpere. However, the Snowball does not stop on coming in contact with the Chrono and carries on. So it is a good way to stun Void while he hits away freely, although the stun lasts only 1.25 seconds.

Having tried something like this for the first time, VPEsports would be obliged if you could let us know in the comments what your opinion is for content like this. Also, if you have any strange interactions in mind, let us know those as well and we will include them in the upcoming columns!

Dota 2

The official free-to-play sequel to the Warcraft III custom scenario that originally popularized the Multiplayer Online Battle Arena sub-genre.

Why CyborgMatt (maybe) can’t be Icefrog

While by no means conclusive, this is a possible \reason to prove this rumor false imho:

-A previous valve employee on Daily Dota states that skype does not work in the Valve firewall

-Icefrog plays multiple times during business hours on skype on Daily Dota

is this an actual theory? because cyborg matt has been trading for cards, im assuming ice frog would have no need for that.

I’ll let you in on a secret. I have played with him and spoken with him on Mumble. He isn’t Icefrog.

Brad is Icefrog.

Brad is Icefrog.

If you’re looking for IceFrog, I would suggest to start looking for people who left Blizzard in 2009.

It’s amazing how IceFrog’s identity hasn’t been exposed yet. You’d think the internet would compile and comb through every photo of events IceFrog has supposedly been at and come up with a person(s).

Brad is Icefrog.

NO I’M SPARTACUS.

@supamon: I assume no one gives enough of a shit. Or potentially someone did and is now sitting all alone, going “NYAHAHAH I KNOOOOOOOOOOOOOOW THE TRUTH!”

He isn’t Icefrog. I have spoken to both Matt and Icefrog, they are not the same.

Though it is a fun rumor to keep going!

. but one day in the future Brad could be Icefrog, right? *queue surprise music*

You do realise that people say that as a joke right?

Brad is Icefrog.

NO I’M SPARTACUS.

Woah. This is freaky. My name is Spartacus too! Okay, everyone, show of hands. How many of you are named Spartacus?

. but one day in the future Brad could be Icefrog, right? *queue surprise music*

What if future Brad IS Icefrog, and he’s playing Dota through the space time continuum (because future Brad is also the world’s leading physicist), to teach his past self a lesson.

Why is this guy hiding his identity?

Why is this guy hiding his identity?

maybe he like’s having a private life?

. but one day in the future Brad could be Icefrog, right? *queue surprise music*

What if future Brad IS Icefrog, and he’s playing Dota through the space time continuum (because future Brad is also the world’s leading physicist), to teach his past self a lesson.

The evidence is all there if only everyone would stop denying it!

Icefrog is just as symbol it shall be passed on to the next person who proves worthy and shall come when they need him!

@barnell: doesn’t seem to be a problem for any other game dev. I use that term loosely in this case.

Could someone explain this to me? Can’t say I’ve heard of it before.

@kishinfoulux: Icefrog is the developer of Dota. Cyborgmatt dota 2 compendium wiki He took over around 2007 I believe after Pendragon and Gusinoo left (Now both at Riot). Icefrog is known for his secrecy of who he actually is. There are a ton of rumors out there, but this one that he is Cyborgmatt just started as a joke.

Not sure why he likes to be so private, however you gotta respect it. He doesn’t really want anything to do with being in the public eye. Over the years this has turned him into a legend of sort since so few people know the true identity of Icefrog.

Brad is Icefrog.

He isn’t Icefrog. I have spoken to both Matt and Icefrog, they are not the same.

Though it is a fun rumor to keep going!

I never really believed the rumor, but I know some people do, so I thought I would bring this up.

TI5 – Group Stage Day 2 – Schedule & Predictions

TI 5 Group Stage Day 2 brings some more exciting potential match-ups. Will there be redemption for some of the big name teams who didn’t have a good day 1? Cloud 9 struggled, Invictus Gaming struggled, and NaVi had a rather mediocre opening day as well. With each of them having a pair of games on day 2, can they turn their fortunes around or will teams like Complexity and CDEC continue their hot runs? Here are the match ups for the 2 nd day of the group stage:

Group Stage Day 2 Schedule
Series 6 : 07/28 – 9:00 PDT
C9 0 0 Fnatic
iG 0 0 LGD
Na`Vi 0 0 coL
Series 7: 07/28 – 11:00 PDT
C9 0 0 Secret
Phx 0 0 LGD
iG 0 0 coL
Series 8: 07/28 – 13:00 PDT
Secret 0 0 Na`Vi
Fnatic 0 0 Phx
CDEC 0 0 VP
Series 9: 07/28 – 15:00 PDT
EG 0 0 VG
EHOME 0 0 Newbee
Empire 0 0 VP
Series 10: 07/28 – 17:00 PDT
EG 0 0 H6ix
EHOME 0 0 VG
Empire 0 0 CDEC

Fnatic already embodied this perfectly on day 1, taking a game off tournament favorites, Team Secret but then just barely keeping themselves from being swept in a nearly 100 minute game 2 against Invictus Gaming. Their talent can overwhelm even the tier 1 teams, at times, but can they limit their mistakes and over-aggression enough to go deep into TI5?

One of the matchups that everyone should be tuning into is the opening game of the day, Cloud 9 vs Fnatic. These teams mirror each other quite well, with the talent to beat anyone in the worth but also the inconsistency to the point where you are not really surprised if they lose to anyone as well. Volatile teams with a really entertaining, aggressive playstyle. You can expect a lot of kills and non-stop action in this matchup. Patience and caution are definitely optional.

On the flip side, Cloud 9 is basically the Fnatic of the Western Scene. They can hang with anyone, and usually do, even often times having the lead in nearly every game at some point. But then, somehow, for whatever reason, they manage to throw the game. The term has almost become synonymous with the team. One or two crucial, seemingly mindboggling or stupid mistakes and they lose games that they should win, and can’t close out games that they are even in. It’s going to be all about finding their form as their tournament goes on. If they can do it, then there could definitely be some surprises coming from Cloud 9 this year.

The second game that should peak your curiosity is the matchup between Team Secret and NaVi. Meeting for the first time at The International since long-time NaVi captain and player, Puppey, left the team with recent support duo partner, Kuroky, this game pits the current kings of DotA against the old guard, the former face of DotA 2. If there is one game, one team who, somehow, someway, rises to the occasion on the International stage, it has historically been Natus Vincere. This game will tell us a lot about what to expect from the former European World Champions.

Team Secret is coming off a relatively strong, yet somewhat disappointing day 1, where they finished an overall 3-1, dropping 1 game against Fnatic. Really, anything short of a 4-0 would have been seen as a slight disappointment; it’s just the standard you are held to when you are the best in the world. They redeemed themselves in style against a decently strong Invictus Gaming team, winning the series 2-0 relatively quickly.

NaVi had a mediocre day 1. They didn’t necessarily have the strongest opponents, yet only managed to secure 2 points, splitting both their series against Cloud 9 and MVP Phoenix. They looked up and down, showing enough flashes of brilliance to convince you that they could potentially hang with the tier 1 teams on a good day, but then also showing enough sloppy play and mistakes that make you want to dismiss their chances in the tournament. Only time will tell. A match against Puppey, Kuroky, and co. might be just what the doctor ordered.

The best matchup of the day, from a pure skill and technical ability perspective should be the Evil Geniuses vs Vici Gaming matchup. Two teams who are driven by their support duo play and guidance, these are two of the favorites to take the entire tournament. For avid players of the game, it’ll be a treat to watch the contrast in style of the two captains, one being the most selfless support player in the professional scene (PPD) and the other being a complete playmaker and, arguably, the single best player in the game at the moment (Fy).

EG had a bit of a shock on day 1, as per their usual. They seem to always start slow in major tournaments and TI5 was no exception. After nearly dropping 0-2 against Newbee in their first series, they managed to turn it around in game 2, pulling off the split. They did seem to get better as the day went on, taking game 1 off of a hot Virtus Pro team, but then couldn’t manage to handle a semi-all-in split push strategy from the Russians in game 2. They seem to have found something with Sumail’s mid Lina though, and are generally slow starters anyways, so EG fans should hold off on panicking until we see what happens on day 2.

VG, on the other hand, looked stellar but not spectacular. They can play better but they still played solid enough that you wouldn’t be surprised if they were there at the end fighting for the Championship. After a 2-0 result against an underrated Team Empire, they played a back to back against MVP. Hot6, who proved to be a little bit more of a difficult test than many would have predicted. Game one was looking to be in favor of the underdogs until on big teamwipe pulled the Chinese giants back into the game. VG went on to stabilize until a clutch Aegis steal from the Korean’s Storm Spirit resulted in a team wipe and subsequent gg out from the Chinese juggernauts. Game 2 went smoother, and VG looked more like the title contenders that we expect. Alongside an impressive LGD team, VG looks to be the class of China at this year’s tournament.

DOTA 2 is a top tier esports title that loves to have events with prize pools that are worth millions of dollars.

DOTA 2 is one of the most popular eSports in the world, as it is a direct competitor to League of Legends for best MOBA based eSports game. Professional DOTA 2 is widley known for the insane prize pools that its events can have, especially the grandaddy of them all, The International. Based on funds provided by the developer of DOTA 2, Valve, and crowdfunding from the passionate fans of DOTA 2, the prize pool for The International has reached unheard of heights for the world of esports. Ranging in the tens of millions of dollars each year, each member of the championship team become a millionaire on the spot. We take a look at the players who have earned the most prize money in this history of DOTA 2.

5. Lasse “Matumbaman” Urpalainen

Matumbaman is currently a member of Team Liquid and fills the Carry and Solo Middle roles for the team. The Finnish player has earned a total of $2,889,227.24 from 48 tournaments played. His highest earning year was 2017, as he collected $2,416,667.40 from 13 tournaments. Team Liquid was able to claim The International championship in 2017, which contributed $2,172,536 of his earnings for last year. 2016 was his second highest earning year with $363,183.80 earned from 13 tournaments. This was a significant jump from his previous year of 2015, as he only earned $37,592.81 from 14 tournaments. As of this writing, Matumbaman has earned $67,000 in 2018 from three tournaments.

4. Ivan “MinD_ContRoL” Ivanov

Playing as the Offlaner for Team Liquid, MinD_ContRoL has helped the team see a great deal of success. Having collected a total of $2,889,522.96 from 45 tournaments, he barley beats out his teammate Matumbaman for fourth spot on the list. 2017 would see MinD_ContRoL secure $2,421,167.40 worth of prize money from 14 tournaments. Like his teammate, The International was the launching pad for MinD_ContRoL into being a millionaire gamer, as he would collect $2.172,536.60. From only earning $1,453.70 in 2014 to having millions in his bank account is quite the impressive accomplishment.

3. Saahil “UNiVeRsE” Arora

The first non Team Liquid player to make the list, UNiVeRsE currently plays Offlaner for Fnatic. The North American player has pocketed a total of $2,953,956.27 from 75 tournamnets over a eight year career. His highest earning year was 2015 where he took home $1,730,083.34 from 12 tournaments. $1,326,932.14 of those total earnings was from his victory at The International 2015. 2016 would be UNiVeRsE’s second highest earning year was 2016, as he won $654,787.80 from 16 tournaments. Consistency has been the key in UNiVeRsE’s earning, as he went four straight years with over $200,000 won.

2. Amer “Miracle” Barqawi

Team Liquid makes its return to the top five with their current Solo Middle and Carry player Miracle. The former OG player is the first member to break into the over $3,000,000 mark, as he has secured $3,128,079.88 from 38 tournaments. With only four years of professional play under his belt, Miracle has collected an impressive amount of winnings from his championship wins. With The International 2017 being the driving force of his earnings, 2017 saw Miracle win $2,421,478.03 from 14 tournaments played. 2016 would be his second most profitable year with $390,678.80 earned, but his very first year of professional play was nothing to scoff at, as Miracle would secure $248,923.05 in 2015 from nine tournaments.

1. Kuro “KuroKy” Takhasomi

Who many consider to be a DOTA 2 legend, KuroKy stands as the player with the most prize money won in DOTA 2 history. Competing since 2008, the captain and support player for Team Liquid has seen his earnings dramatically increase every year of his career. With a win at The International in 2017 bringing the most to his total, KuroKy has earned $3,549,039.35 from 83 tournaments played. 2017 was his highest earning year with $2,436,667.40, while his lowest earning year was 2012 when he earned $1,100 from three tournaments. It would be hard to find someone who would not enjoy to see the profit increase that KuroKy has seen through his years of competing.

The International 2017 set the bar for prize pools in all of esports, and there is no evidence to suggest that it will not surpass itself in 2018. If a different team is able to dethrone Team Liquid as champions of the prestigious event, it will not be chocking to see a new group of players making up the majority of the top five for most prize money earned.
